If somebody feels they believe in Christian values, why should they let a bunch of snobby people from the congregation look down on them and stop them expressing their faith? Most, people I know that go to church are fantastic people. The really finger wavers are few and far between. That is said, as somebody that goes to church once every couple of years.
What if the criminal is going to church in the hope of salvation...? This would not be a contradiction. Perhaps the criminal is compelled to commit crimes, and is looking for Jesus to save him / her from themselves.

I love that song.

I haven't attended church regularly since I was about 15. I do go for weddings, christenings and funerals and both my kids are baptized.

What really gets me is when its Lent there are people that I am friends with who never attend church, have premarital sex, drink curse and who knows what else but will still give something up for Lent and not eat meat of Fridays.

Not on Sundays. Just Wednesdays. I'm not religious enough for the Sunday show.

Oh, I agree.. I was talking the pre-asking for salvation moments. Really, though I was just being picky about the use of a word ;)

Let me put it this way, a simple contradiction doesn't necessarily have to be a crime in the same way that not all crimes are contradictions. Take Glenn Beck for instance:

Notice how he contradicts himself in less than 10 secs yet he thinks he hasn't; thats OK tho .... such contradiction makes him look bad but is certainly not a crime.

Now a priest who rapes childen is committing a crime, you could say it is a contradiction as much as I could say it is an aberration .... I guess there are many ways to describe this "sin" *cough cough* however people don't get sent to jail because they contradict themselves (Glenn Beck would have a life sentence lol)

Regarding the comparison of rape/murder to working in the porn industry... I MUST say working in the adult industry is not a crime and thus not punished by the laws of man. HOWEVER when it comes to religion things go even further because we fall in a discussion of "big sin vs small sins" .... and according to the Bible..... there is no such thing as a small sin or a big sin because the simple definition of sin is "a Thought or Act against the Law of God" and the seventh commandment says:

Quote:
7. "You shall not commit adultery" (Exodus 20:14).

Furthermore:

Sex is for marriage. In fact, Jesus said whoever looks upon a woman to lust after her (if she is not your wife) has already committed adultery with her in his heart. This includes fornication (sex outside of marriage) too (1 Timothy 1:8-10).
Quote:
Question: "Does God forgive big sins? Will God forgive a murderer?"

Answer: Many people make the mistake of believing that God forgives “little” sins such as lying, anger, and impure thoughts, but does not forgive “big” sins such as murder and adultery. This is not true. There is no sin too big that God cannot forgive it. When Jesus died on the cross, He died to pay the penalty for all of the sins of the entire world (1 John 2:2). When a person places his faith in Jesus Christ for salvation, all of his sins are forgiven. That includes past, present, and future, big or small. Jesus died to pay the penalty for all of our sins, and once they are forgiven, they are all forgiven (Colossians 1:14; Acts 10:43).

We are all guilty of sin (Romans 3:23) and deserve eternal punishment (Romans 6:23). Jesus died for us, to pay our penalty (Romans 5:8). Anyone who believes in Jesus Christ for salvation is forgiven, no matter what sins he has committed (Romans 6:23; John 3:16). Now, a murderer or adulterer will likely still face serious consequences (legal, relational, etc.) for his evil actions – more so than someone who was “just” a liar. But a murderer’s or adulterer’s sins are completely and permanently forgiven the moment he believes and places his faith in Christ.
As far as your previous examples of a people who go to church and yet sell weapons or work in the tobacco industry, I must agree those are contradictions but they don't go as far as being illegal according to the laws of man.

Now, don't take me the wrong way... I am not a religious or even Spiritual person at all, I just happened to have a pastor as a father (yeah contradiction) but I happen to have my own mind/pov as well. I remember having discussions with him about the Jewish concept that G-d is only one and indivisible, that being the case all Christians who believe in the holly Trinity are in fact polytheists ... yeap, mind numbing.... but every religion out there has the truth and thats OK with me, I live and let live.

I dont' go to church because I would be a hypocrite if I did, just like many (not all) who go to church ...so... if I am not going to do things properly I rather not do them at all.

OK nice discussion ... but now is worky time
