Back in the 1980's, I worked in a commercial photo lab. I did everything from receiving film, to splicing film, to processing/developing the film, printing the film and finally inspecting the prints. Pretty much all the 35mm, 26mm, 110mm and Disc prints for all major drugstores in the northeast US.

Print inspection was the hardest because you were streaming thousands of pictures before your eyes, watching for anything troubling of a sexual nature, or printing errors that needed reprint. Nudity was NEVER a big issue whatsoever, never. The only thing that was a big issue, was sexual contact when one or more participant was deemed to be underage. Those we'd mark, cut out of the roll, and turn into the police for them to decide to investigate further or not.

Now first of all I want to ask, who the heck these days still uses a film camera? Second, for someone to think that kids in the tub or bathroom is "sexual" in nature should go directly to a fucking doctor because they are fucking crazy and repressed and have serious issues with understanding what sexuality is.

Ah, I did watch the clip but I didnt see it was a digital, lol. They need a home printer!

When I say 26, I'm referring to the "126" catridges, the actual film comes out nearer to 28mm square, but it was still called 26, or 126.

The report stated that they dropped off digital images to be printed. Which even doing that I would think is expensive. My wife has a little photo printer and she is constantly printing photos herself to send to relatives.

This is not the first time children have been removed from the parents over "innocent" pictures...and probably won't be the last. Unfortunately I do not remember the results of previous incidents like this...or even if law suits were filed. I do recall that in at least one incident it was policy...for any and all pictures of nude children...to be turned over to the authorities...and I suspect it may be policy at Walmart...and if it is the parents will probably lose the law suit...unless Walmart simply decides to settle the case.

I wouldn't take pictures of my children naked in the bath, and I wouldn't want to see pictures of other peoples' children naked in the bath.

When our parents' did this in the past, they didn't know that the world was full of sickos who would derive pleasure from naked children.

I do not think walmart did wrong to refer this to the police to allow them to investigate and rule on this. Doing nothing would have been wrong.

thats were things have gotten fucked in the state attorneys office. they saw an easy win in court and went after the numbers so that they could later get elected to higher positions or get hired by a big ffirm.. Oh and something else to consider. Also in the same batch of photo's are pictures of the family playing together. Is it in the walmart manual of print inspection to watch for patterns that are known to exist with families, or better still, pedophiles? Do they train their idiots with actual facts and case studies, or just leave it up to their QUESTIONABLE (I'm being too nice) opinion of what is "right" or "wrong"? I think the latter, and thats the problem (obviously right? dont you agree that this was a mistake? so what do you acknowledge needs to be learned from this MISTAKE?)

These stories are too common now days.

A few months ago at the McDonalds out here a guy's toddler was in the play area and climbed up into one of those tubes in their jungle gym thing and wouldn't come out.

The guy climbed up to try to get his kid and before he climbed back down the cops were there. Someone called and said a man was trying to abduct or molest children in the play area.

Fortunately the cops were smart enough to realize what happened, of course only after the guy and his kid were harrassed and humiliated.

What we need are laws to protect us from stupid and paranoid people.

The main "mistake" here is that the parents acted irresponsibly in taking such photos of their children, and a FEMALE photo technician thought the photos were inappropriate and took the CORRECT action in reporting it upwards through many people who also agreed.

Even though IN THIS CASE after investigation, the family were not believed to have had any bad intent, there are many cases where intent IS found, and if people are scared to do their jobs and report questionable material, then who will win then?

Whatever your anti-police, anti wall-mart, or pro let people do what they want ideals, the parents DID make a very serious mis-judgement in taking those photos, and if not checked who knows where this would have ended up? If you read the report in full, it also says not only that there were many such photos and videos on their pc but also

There are still nine other photographs which were not released because the Demarees' lawyer said that the photos were intended for private home use and showing them to outside parties would violate the law for distribution of child pornography."

That is THEIR OWN LAWYER'S opinion on the photos.....

Also, far from everybody "admitting they acted too swiftly", I saw:

"The Police and prosecutors insist they did what they thought was appropriate."

and

"The city of Peoria also states that it stands behind the appropriate actions of their officers."

which is a bit different.

No doubt there is more to this story than EITHER of us know, but all I have ever been commenting is that I believe that the lady in wall-mart acted correctly when finding what she considered inappropriate material and I hope that she and other people working in that line of work will continue to do so as if doing so stops even one paedophile it is worth it...

There was NOTHING WRONG with the bathtime photo's! NOTHING! YOU and the walmart employee and ALL of the chain of command and police in this case ARE wrong for thinking so.
