I live in the east end of Oakville. It's considered part of the GTA. I want to move 3 blocks west to be out of the GTA. I lived in Toronto most of my life, I have watched the city lose the very soul that made it the best city in the world. Now it's a lifeless shell filled with people who just don't care.

I hate Toronto.

I feel completely safe walking down my street at 3 in the morning.

Saskatoon is apparently the most dangerous city in Canada and Toronto doesn't even make the top 10, Vancouver does though;p

Most Dangerous Cities in Canada by Rank

Statistics aren't everything though. Certain cities will be more dangerous for certain groups of people e.g. specific racial, class, or gender. I grew up in one of the most dangerous cities of the world, but was more privileged than most so I wasn't exposed to the same level of crime.

Live wherever you feel happy and at home. That means different things for different people or at different stages of your life.
I had a friend who lived right at Jane and Finch and was often there in between 12-3am and never felt unsafe or really saw anything bad. I think people tend to exagerate and this video 'the real toronto' was obviously made with the intent to look like 'badasses'. No doubt there are gangs though but I've never had any problem. Though my friend has had a few strange experiences, one I can recall being some crazy bloodied guy running down the hall banging on doors in her building while the cops are chasing after him.

I like Toronto. Almost wound up moving up there this year. Nice city, lots of cultures but with that seems to come with lots of racism also. Maybe it was just my bad luck but I overheard lots of anti immigrant and anti semitic talk in bars. Not that we don't have that in the states, but it's rare you hear people seriously shouting about "the problems with jews" midday at a pub.

Yeah, I don't think that is the norm. I've never heard much of any anti semtism in any of the areas I've lived in Canada. There is a lot of resentment among some Canadians towards immigrants though. Some of it may be deserved but there are many good hard working people who immigrant to Canada. Everyone just wants to see the 10 kid families who don't speak english (or french) on welfare.

no you are 100% correct, California has more registered hate groups than most of the South combined, this is due to the influx of immigrants.

I heard blacks and jews constantly talked down in Cali, dont forget the ANTI-White armenian power etc... you dont even hear this shit down south but in cali youd be surprised, its more racist than the south

Im from Toronto and am very proud to be so. The city is large, fun, and culturally deep. No matter where you are from you can most likely find your favorite foods and your nation's people. The bar scene is incredible and the women are hot.

On another note, I just got back from Amsterdam and it was great! The city seems to have no stress and the people are so friendly. The women are all tall blondes with smoking hot bodies. It almost seemed as if everyone was on a lunch break all day and week long. I would def live in Amsterdam!

You can post pretty pictures of the city you live in all day. Still doesn't mean your city even compares to the Big Dog - Toronto. We get all the best acts, festivals, shows etc. We have the best culture and night life. When you get tired of the busy city you're no more then a 45 minute drive to the country side where you can ski, fish, hunt, whatever you want. If you live outside of Canada and want to come here to have a good time, come to the TDOT!!

On another note.

You hardly ever hear of any racism here. We get along just fine. Of course there is some, but it's far from our biggest problem. And that says alot considering the amount of different cultures we have here.

I love Toronto

Toronto is about an hour south of me.. and that's too close. the handful of times that I drive into the city.. you can actually feel it when you cross over king road into brampton. I dont relax until I'm safe across that line again. My ideal set up would be 200 acres, and a house.. smack dab in the middle of it. Trust me .. when the world goes to shit.. and the zombies take over.. a city is the last place you will want to be in.

Toronto is culturally bankrupt and gentrification is killing the remaining few neighbourhoods with a pulse. I travel yearly to Montreal, NYC, San Francisco, and Paris just to feel alive.

if somehow I was *forced* to live in a Canadian city again, i'd break down the three big ones this way (of course i am generalizing like a mofo, but that's the point of these threads right?):

Vancouver: if you want outdoor adventures, nothing else comes close
Montreal: lots of culture, everything is much more mom and pop, great people, even the most basic bars stay open till 4 am. and the jazz. ah, the jazz.
T-dot: definitely gets the most good music acts in the country, just behind van. if you are heavy into live acts, this is the place to be. also (no, i'm not a fan myself lol), but the 'broadway' musical scene is huge there too, my aunt goes up there ever year just for that alone.

Really Enjoyed it! Some cool points

Im from a small town.. I traveled a bit in life and I love it here for now. Lots of adult biz, tons of stuff to do, and pure culture shock for a a kid from Brandon, Manitoba.

Where as bums and crack fiends down here get out of my way in a hurry, they might actually harass you if they think they could frighten a woman into giving money.

Similar with gangsters who might holler at you but otherwise ignore you, if they are in a pack at a bar, they are much more likely to want to fight men than women. I doubt I'd be safe walking through a black project in Toronto.
I realized one thing in my 36 years. It's safe walking through any black project if they fight one on one and fists vs fists.

You don't remember the second "28 days" movie when they were out there in the fields way out in the country?

Zombies are in shape.....How the hell would you even be able to sleep in the middle of nowhere knowing that it only takes one ambitious zombie for it to be your ass?

We get all the best acts, festivals, shows etc. We have the best culture and night life. When you get tired of the busy city you're no more then a 45 minute drive to the country side where you can ski, fish, hunt, whatever you want. If you live outside of Canada and want to come here to have a good time, come to the TDOT!!
best night life? I went to a supposedly called "after-hour" at 2 AM (cause the bars were all closed) and there was an average of 1 chick for every 5 dudes, maybe you guys are used to that though, definitely not my cup of tea

You can do a similar search for 'the real vancouver' and watch videos like this:

But Vancouver & Toronto are both safe cities and great places to live for different reasons. So I agree with the first part of your post.
you are implying that poor people do not have a right to live in Vancouver?

and somehow these people take away from our city? maybe take a deep breath and stay in the super highway capital of the country.. we're all breathing fine over here.. rich and poor alike.

No I wasn't saying that at all. If you read my whole post you would have seen that I posted that video in response to someone else who found a video on youtube about Toronto being supposedly overrun with gang thugs. I was pointing out that youtube videos don't exactly offer the most accurate portrayal of any city. I found that video to show you can find people complaining about anything on youtube.

I actually think Vancouver does many things better than Toronto. For example, the city is way ahead of Toronto on safer heroin shooting clinics. I volunteered for an organization that was trying to get the same program set up in Toronto for crack users.

One of the reasons I love living in downtown Toronto is that you can find a very expensive condo building right next to government housing or a mental hospital. I grew up in a country that was and is still very divided.

I know I would be very happy living in Vancouver. I love Montreal also, but I don't think I can live anywhere colder than Toronto. But I'm just not made for the cold;p
