Any man here raising his kid alone, or at least 80-90% of the time?

I do, mine just turned 3. It's fun, tiresome, tender, heartbreaking, nervewrecking and more. I think I age faster though, on the outside. Inside i relive life from day 1, haha.

My girl and I aren't married and she works out of the house and 2 days a week she's in another city.

I get to play Mr. Mom to a 4 month old and 16 month old.

It's naptime right now as a matter of fact. I can actually get something done.

So far the later years. When they're little it's harder to do things and get thing done when you don't have help. Also my social life was non-existant. That being said when he gets 16 I might revise my answer as far as the later years being easier.

It's kind of like prison really, haha.
During the day there's like 12-13 hours of non stop police-ing (sp?), which i hate to do in the first place, but now i must, haha. An occasional disney flick will brighten up your emailbox for 60-70 minutes. Thank God Cars takes 1 hr 50 minutes, you can almost help a client too.

Then, 19.30u, YOUR time starts. You have about 4,5 hours before you have to hit the sack,otherwise you'll die of tireness soon.

However, YOUR time means you may not leave the house. If you are hungry for a cold can of coke in summer and you want to get it at a nearby snack corner? No no no, you sit tight, at home. You may sit, drink what you have, you may have friends over, but if you do, remember this: 4,5 hours a day, is 31.5 hours / week. When you're used to working 12+ hours a day, made possible by working in you own biorithm, which you perfected over the years, going back to only BEING ABLE to get to work a little over 30 hours in an entire week, is upsetting sometimes (yes, now;-)).

Before allsingle moms come in and say I am / we're whino's, of course i know there's an easy solution.
- Move back to where you come from, where others will jump in easier
- Put the kid more in daycare (will be 2 days instead of 1 from next week)
and whatever other obvious thing.

There's a million reasons why i cannot do some things to free my hands because she still has parental rights, and even though she never takes care of him, she refused to let me do certain things for him.

I share joint custody of my two kids so during the time I have them it is just me and them. Definitely rewarding and stressful all in the same. I wouldn't change it for the world though. If I didn't have a business to run I would definitely have full custody.

I've raised my 2 daughters for the last 9years and they are now 11 and 13, I have had some help from my GF in the last few years but still at the end of the day I'm the one responsible for them...

I commend you. It is the hardest job you will probably ever have. From the sounds of it, you are doing a great job. Sometimes you might not feel like you are getting the chance to live your life to the fullest but I guarantee when you look back you feel much better about yourself when you realize that shaping your son's future was SO much more important that getting laid or going out to party.

As far as what is harder/easier....in my opinion, the younger years were harder. My daughter is 8 now. She is much more self sufficient now, which makes it easier. So you will eventually find a little more time for yourself. Although I can see already that the teenage years will be full of it's own set of drama.

Yes it is hard and sometimes you just wanna sit and cry sometimes you just want to run away lol but when them eyes look at you and say I LOVE YOU it makes it all worth it! With me and my two boys we try and have family night Sat's where we play cards or board games sometime we will play 1vs100 on xbox lol The hardest part for me is the school,homework!

A week ago my 3 yr old girl came into the office and said, "Daddy, Ethan needs to go to bed".. so she walked me into my 1yr old son's room and she suddenly burst into a song "twinkle twinkle little star".. singing to him as I do every night. Then at the end she handed him his bottle - leaned over and kissed him as he stood in his crib. Without warning she stood back and said, "now go to bed" and with her hand pushed Ethan hard back into his crib falling down then proceeded out of the room.

I went from the most amazing moment in my life to utmost joy and tears as i laughed at her innocent care for her brother. It's those moments that make it all worthwhile.

My girl is turning 4 in Feb. Her mom has 2 days a week. I have never had so much fun before my girl and every day just gets better. waking me up Dad its sunny out lets go to the beach and Dad I love you these things just light me up and make life such a joy.

Not a lot of sleep as I work mostly at night but hey I am good on 4 to 5 hours ;)

Single dad here. I have my son 46 weeks a year...she only gets him in the summer for 6 weeks. I have had him since he was almost 3 and he just turned 7. He also has Asperger's Syndrome so life is a bit hectic for me doing it all alone. And, nope..."mom" doesn't pay child support either!

Gets hard at times no sleep and shit but worth it...

you know I think it should be said that in most cases the best thing for a child is equal time with both parents. That being said I have noticed since becoming a father and going through the courts there are more deadbeat moms then I had ever imagined.

I never well get how a parent could not be as I am 100% for the kids. I mean they are your best investment ever. My kids Mom rushes home to do her hair and go out with her friends I would expect normal parents rush home to see their kids...... I hate seeing my kid disappointed and hurt by this I wish I could get Mom to grow up!

I see a lot of single dads having to fight for equality and then when the fight is over and the baby grows up Mom losses interest its BS it should be a default 50/50 and then if that needs to change go from there.

Single dad here. I have full custody of my son and have had since early 2002. My ex wife has no visitation. Son will be 11 this month on Halloween.

Definitely easier now that he's in school for the full day and can do things for himself without having to be watched over.

I'm suprised about the amount of Dad's doing the same. Good stuff!

I heard 'mom' is being evicted from her house 28th this month, she does not even know it, as she does not empty the mailbox and sits with her BF who beats her up regularly. Neighbours called me, today I called housing co. to see if i can get my and my son's stuff out of there before they throw it away.

We all have challenges...single dads and moms alike. Some more than others but it's never easy going it alone, especially when the other parent is providing NO support. Good thread...

I had to sit my daughter down when she was 12 and explain what I do because her stepmom took it upon herself to tell my daughter her mom worked in porn. She thought all sorts of stuff but once I explained it was like, "oh, well that's boring." Kids know about porn and most teenagers are using it to learn about sex these days. I won't get into the moral implications of that but it's pretty mainstream to them and having a parent that does some sort of boring job related to porn isn't as big of a deal as it once might have been. I think performers that are parents still have a tougher time though.

Congrats man, always good to see a man step up and raise his seed. I have a son that i am unfortunately not able to see as often as i would like due to him living with his mother in another country, but i am never late on my child support, call every weekend, and make it a priority to see him every chance i get!

Way to go, wish more dads would give their kids the attention, love, and upbringing they deserve!
