Now I'm not going to profess to being an expert in world economics, but the comment did interest me enough to go do a little googling. From what I've seen, we might already be not too far off this happening. From what I managed to search up and read, the top nations in the world at the G20 have all expressed their dwindling faith in the US dollar, and suggestions have already been made by many to switch to special drawing rights, and many even the Chinese yuan.

Again, I'm not expert on the subject, but this leads me to ask the question, "If this would be so incredibly devastating to our lives, why are so many of the world's other powers supportive of the idea? And who exactly is it bad for?" Seems a little to me like that american "We ARE the world" attitude is shining a little with that comment...

What do you need to check? No foreign army or divisions ever fought in Bosnia (except for mercenaries). There were foreign (UN) soldiers stationed in the countries during the war but they were only ?observing?. Not a single shot was ever fired by these ?soldiers?. There were some air bombings done at the end of the war but that was really just a symbolic show of power.

Kosovo was not a war... It was just a an air campaign against Serbia.

Any foreigner who claims he ?fought? in Bosnia is either lying or is delusional.

Regardless of the morals of this war, these guys are doing their job and of course some will get scared. If you claim military experience then you would know that! I did my service in the British Army, but was lucky to only see any action in Northern Ireland, and am grateful to have not been to Iraq. Even in NI we got shot at, and it was scary! And anyone in this situation that claims to not be even remotely scarred is probably lying - or complacent which is when a fuckup occurs!

it is much closer to happening than most people realize. It will not come in the form of the world bank stating that it has changed its policy or anything like that. If/When it happens it will come in the form of more and more countries stating that they are going to be buying / selling their oil in something other than dollars

right now there are only a handful of countries that buy and sell oil in euros, that will change soon enough. iraq decided they would start dealing oil in euros... that happened about 6 to 9 months (not sure exact dates) before we invaded them.

the first thing we did was reverse that policy.

a lot of people argue that we invaded iraq for its oil. that is not true. we did not get any extra oil from iraq, but we did force it to sell its oil in u.s. dollars

the reason foreign countries are forced to keep large inventories of dollars is so they can buy oil. they are definitely not keeping dollars because its a good investment, that has not been the case in a long time

Many do not "get scared" when things happend, but hell it can backfire years after. I know all about that! A recent report made by the military is that 1 out of every 24 applicants are accepted into the military (the others are found unfit to serve for a multitude of reasons)...even with the current lowered standards for enlistment...and standards are reduced any time the military needs warm bodies.

I did Bosnia-Herzegovina in 99' (NATO SFOR), Eritrea/Ethiopia (late 00' - 01), and then Iraq from 03'-07,' on the ground, the full front and center in combat (not support, no logistics, not anything, look at my current pic). YOU have never been on the receiving end of a Al Samoud II missile, a Katyusha rocket, a mortar of any type, an IED, a VBIED, an EFP, HMG fire, small arms fire, or, fuck, (probably) even a .22 round, pellet, or BB. Who the fuck are you to judge the men and women who are always defending your freedoms, including the very shit that you sell every day, even if you don't agree with where they are currently operating or whatever bullshit cause that you think that they're supporting? You have ZERO clue of what those attacks feel like. Or, what it is to perform emergency first aid to keep your friends alive. Or, to volunteer to take the 'point' on the move. Only a select few will ever experience that and I am proud, whether you degrade a cause or not, that I can call myself a Warrior. And, with that title (meaning knowledge and experience of what we're actually watching in that video), I am allowed to judge. And, to the guy who was saying that Soldiers are 'uneducated:' No offense, but I will graduate my MBA program in 2010. I've never failed a course, school, or any other program in my life. I already hold a Postgraduate certification and I speak (nearly) fluent Arabic. If you would open your mind and visit your local Soldiers (especially those that have served more than a 3-5 year stint), you would see that most of them have chosen to move forward with onward education, 'on the side' businesses, or even something that just 'gives back,' like charity work. To classify everyone who serves (even for the most part) as uneducated or otherwise, only makes clear your own naivety.

To my brothers and sisters at arms, I have never met finer people in my life and I will always have your back, as you will have mine. To my very own sister who is currently the Deputy DCOS for NATO in A-stan: I love you, I stand by you, and may God stay with you through the remaining 6-7 months of your rotation (and, yes bitches, she is combat arms as well: Artillery).

I scored 99th percentile on the ASVAB back in high school when recruiters were everywhere and as a confused teenager in a poor family, I considered joining the military. So basically I could have chosen whatever I wanted to do. Ultimately I decided not to go in. A friend of mine did go in in the army and sure enough served in Iraq. I might have had the luxury of not having to go depending on what job I chose but he scored pretty high on it too and iirc was going to be a linguist.

Given the empty reasoning behind the Iraq war, I'm glad I didn't go into the military simply because I would not have wanted to serve over there. Protecting our country or even an ally that has problems protecting itself is one thing, but IMO that is not at all what is taking place over there. Maybe initially in Afghanistan but these days not anymore there either. But hey, I'm sure Cheney and others have their pockets sufficiently lined from it all.

Good post. Some civilians are unaware that all Officers have...at the least a Bachelor Degree and many of them...if not most...have advanced degrees. They are also unaware that most...if not all...Senior NCO's (and some Junior NCO's) have at least an Associate Degree and many have a Bachelor Degree as well as advanced degrees. They make the military their career...not because they are not qualified to do anything else...but because they choose to make the military a career for multiple reasons.

You also are correct when you say that some run other businesses while they are in the military. I for one...began a business and ran it for ten of my twelve years of service...a business that I continued with up until a few years ago. I would have stayed for thirty years if I had not been forced to be medically discharged...and certainly not because I was not qualified to do something else.
