We've got some incredible pizza from several places here in Winnipeg, but the best pizza I've ever had in my life thus far was from a little place in N. Minnesota. Just outside of International Falls in the Town of Rainier there's a place called The Nineteenth Hole. Their "Country Club Special" is absolutely to bloody well die for.

The best pizza I have ever had comes from a little hole in the wall place here in Portland. They serve the normal stuff like peperoni and sausage etc, but they also have some crazy stuff. My favorite is the one that has lamb sausage, ham, red potato, mushroom and prosciutto. It is amazing.

Best pizza in America is... from Argentina. Maybe some US pizzeria may run for a distant second place (and I mean second after a bunch of almost any random pizza restaurant in Argentina)
Most pizzeria here have a choice of dough: thin, ultra thin (a la piedra, made on stone ovens), deep dish (here is known as "tarta abierta"), stuffed, calzone. Some places have fried or "a la parrilla" (BBQ), big, giant, square, per meter and so on. Ovens: Using gas, using firewood, using natural charcoal. Made of metal with stone floor or mud/adobe. And then you have the flavor choices: any regular pizzeria has 25/30 (multiplied by the choice of dough, ovens, whatever). Some big ones have as much as 150/200 different choices. And each pizzeria has its own "special", meaning its most creative and awesome flavor. And although you may find soggy pizza like in US, you have to request it that way, since here we like crusty pizza, to the very least you need to feel the bottom crust when you bite it ![]() Fuck, I need some pizza now! ![]()

Pizza is very subjective. I've had good pizza in a few of the major cities mentioned and I don't see any of those places listed here. I guess it's all about what you want to get out of a pizza, the fact that the first pizza listed is Chicago deep dish says alot.
Personally, I can't do chicago pizza. I like my pizza thin and simple. New York style is my favorite, but I'm open minded. I'll try anything as long as it's not 2" thick or has sauce on top of the cheese. I was surpised to see they hit Boston and didn't mention Pizzeria Rico, but if if chicago is the gold standard I don't think I'd see eye to eye on any of it. This is my favorite pizza in the area, Italia Mia in St. Petersburg: ![]() They do deep fried calzones too: ![]() |

Anything outside NY/NJ is inferior. It's about the water.
That said, there's two in LA that I will check out. I've only come across one decent pizza place in LA and I'd like options. Back east you couldn't swing a dead cat around by the tail without hitting one. |

Lucali is amazing and right near me. I have been having it for the past few years.
Famous Joe's is a definite place to visit for that super NYC style slice. In general I like brick oven, thin crust... that's just me. If in Brooklyn try Il Porto on Washington Ave. right outside the Brooklyn Navy Yard. It's a new place that has amazing pizza. |

I had a friend here in LA who had a pizza place and he imported the water. Made all the difference. Well, except when catering to the Cali taste buds and they made abominations like BBQ chicken pizza.

best pizza made is in Columbus Ohio, at least it was when I lived there between 92 & 2003.. Couldn't find anything better than catfishBiff's, Gumby's or Adriaticos and even Donatos anywhere I've lived or visited (yes even NY, Brooklyn & Chicago) .
Here in FL all pizza sucks, except for Dominics here in boca
