So im minding my own business like i usually do and i get this email, blah blah niche blah niche niche. And i get to thinking what the fuck is a niche anyway. Isn't that some kinda shit you put a candle in or a figurine of your favorite Catholic saint?

When did we get hooked on this bullshit, niche sounds like something fleas have not a home for my collection of big boobie pix! Im loosing it, if i hear about niche one more time im going to stab somebody with a spoon.

Ive been trying to figure it out on my own i even blogged about a solution but im curious to know what the good folks here have to say on the matter

Seriously you are asking? A lot of guys get off on anythng. Some guys get arrousal from certain things. Maybe it hair color, eye color, body type, race, type of clothing, type of sex, certain situations( nurse, school teacher, boss scenario etc ). That's a niche. The Niche word comes from marketing, and from there it became widely used in most commercial activities. I took a look at your post and you even propose the word taxonomy, which in marketing is a whole different thing.

I found specially funny this quote in your blog post:

well, not only I apply it EVERY DAY to my business, but believe me when I tell you that not only is easy to find books (and videos, and conferences, and lectures, and magazines, and websites, and.......) but I think it's one of the easiest to find marketing subjects!

It's not really all that complicated.

Come up with a better word then. "Genre" comes close but just don't quite say it. There's the overall market (mainstream, fetish, adult in general, etc) and there are sub-categories called NICHES (foot, balloon sex, big tits, tiny tits, no tits, puffy nips, etc) and even sub-categories of those niches otherwise known as cross-niches -- puffy nipped redheads, big tits w hairy bush, plumpers in stockings and heels, etc.

It's a simple word, commonly used and readily known and understood by virtually everyone. I'm sorry I don't see the problem.

Personally I don't like the word "criteria", I think it's utterly stupid and overused, but I don't see myself bitching my way on message boards into getting the entire business world to stop using it. Waste of time in my view.

No Harvey your wrong! I dont like this niche thing sure its a marketing term but i make websites not just market them. So from a developer standpoint, niche is meaningless to me.

There's only one niche, and its people who jerk off. All porn caters to the people who jerk off niche. It's simply ruinous to hold such a narrow focus and think in vague terms canned and presented as holy.

And i don't post on GFY to inform myself that's your job, and hey link me that book you must know about that will make me change my mind.

Actually yeah, according to industry standards it would be its own special little niche. Of course its vaguely related to anime and traditional western style cartoon porn. By definition niches do not overlap so content cannot rightfully be categorized and described as being called a niche. In a taxonomy scheme where there is no top or bottom anything can overlap so this is a more fitting label for the act of categorizing content.

So as the theory goes if your site "theme" is centered around "blondes" then you just built a site in the blonde "niche". But if I have a site with redeads and i send you traffic at which point does the traffic from my redhead niche site magically become blonde niche traffic?

I may be guilty of performing acts of niche marketing but i think it rather nicer to consider myself building taxonomy schemes when categorizing content. Or if you must "tagging" but damnit thats another topic i suppose.
