Copart auction.. for buying cars..

any of you ever buy a car from there? its like cars with accidents and crap.. i think if you have balls you can save a lot of money.. you can see a $80k car with damage, and going for like $15k.. im all for saving money, just dont know if its worth the possibility of future problems with the car..

I used to work with a friend of mine who is a used car dealer, one day he got the bright idea of buying a couple late-model Toyotas from Copart.
They both had fairly severe front end damage, we took them to a body shop we did business with and had them fixed up then sold them for a tidy profit.

Then the fun began,
Both cars began to have problems immediately, steering issues, electrical faults, driving noises, fluid leaks, rain leaks, handling problems, you name it, we ended up spending all the profit plus more trying to make it right.

The lesson is once you smack a car good and hard it'll never be right again.

I bought a whole bunch of cars off there. Nothing but problems. You cant see the car before you buy it... Every single car i bought off there turned out to be a money pit either in hidden damage that you could not see in pics, or shit breaking like crazy (transmissions etc). If you watch the actual auctions, the cars doing go THAT cheap. You can almost buy a normal undamaged car for similar amounts. It is only somewhat worth it if you are a body shop.

I even ran into one car, a mitsubishi eclipse gsx. They stole some parts from it at the copart lot which they would not reimburse us for, they were doing donuts with it until they completely destroyed the clutch and the tires just had metal wires left on them.

I had a friend who made a great living buying from places like that. Fixing them up a little and selling them out of country.

OK here is my 2 cents, unless you have access to a garage or some land to work on them, stay away from them. They all need SOMETHING they're not telling you. I have mixed feelings about Copart. I bought 2 cars from them. One of them was alright, the other was a total fucking lemon.

I bought a Mercedes C280 for $2000. For a little bit more I had it towed to my door. The motor was SEIZED. unbelieveable. So I bought a motor for 900 and put it in. Drove it through not even 2 tanks of gas and the tranny went (wow!). Also the interiors was in much rougher condition than you can tell by their grainy ass 'vb2' photos on copart. I lost total of 6gs on this car and sold it on ebay for peanuts, like under 200 bucks just to get it out of my sight. bad memories

I also bought a mazda miata from copart at the same time for $1200. This was a fairly honest car that wasnt banged up at all. But when the shipper dropped it off there was no lower tie rods so it couldn't be steered at all... lol. quick 200 dollar fix and it was rollling. Drove it 1000 miles and the crankshaft starts to wobble off a pulley. Time for a new crank key, all new pulleys, belts,... another 1000 bucks. Then it was actually a decent car to drive for the year i kept it.

If youre going to buy a copart car be prepared to put back DOUBLE what you bought it for at the very least, or do like most of the bidders and buy 2 cars and use the 2nd one for parts. Thats the real way to do it, and sell whatevers extra left as part out on ebay or car forums. Hope that helps.

lol whats the point.. i can see how selling intl would make money since those guys dont run carfaxes, etc in foreign countries..

anyway im looking for a 2006-07 bmw m5, i saw like 5 there and im not gonna invest 20k on it, much better off buying one with no issues for $45k-50k

it would be cheaper in the end to just buy your bmw used outright. copart is for people that want to fill up mom and pop lots with clunker corollas and camrys. and the titles dont matter you can go to kentucky or take a car across the border to canada and import/export it and the title comes back clean.
