It's not the system. It was actually a game. More specifically the box the game came with that is valued at about $10k.

I've got some original unopened Super Mario and Zelda discs that are worth a few bucks.

Once I saw what it was all about it made perfect sense. As a collector myself, I've seen these auctions come around onc ein a while. A few of them pop up every year that create an instant buzz in the collectors community. An ultra rare game will show up in an eBay auction, the link will get passed around a little, people will speculate on whether or not it's real. then the heavy hitters step in and shit goes wild. All eyes stop and everybody is watching that auction. People spend big bucks for this sort of shit. Stadium Events complete in the box is a fucking gem for the most hardcore of collections.

If you have 5 stadium events in plastic wrap, you're sitting on a fuck ton of money, and what would go down in game collecting history as one of those legendary jackpot finds. It happens once in a while though. There were a couple 2600 games long considered ultra rare, fetching upwards of $1000/piece in the box. Then suddenly someone cracked a warehouse down in south america and found a pallet full of the fuckers in mint condition brand new. Slowly dispersed them over the internet and someone made a fucking killing before people realized what was actually happening.

Back in the day, around that same time my brother and I bought NES games and two systems with carrying bags and went around to all the video stores in Reno, NV and asked if they would want to partner with us and put them in their stores to rent to customers. They thought we were crazy and wouldnt do it, finally we found a mom and pop record store that did it for us and they rented like crazy! I wish we stuck with it, I'd surely be a millionaire right now.

Never heard of that particular game though.

"Not the console itself, but one of the games bundled with it -- a deeply obscure 1987 release called Stadium Events, a highly sought-after collectors' item. But it wasn't even the game itself that was worth the bulk of the money -- it was the original cardboard box, which collectors value at a breathtaking $10,000. Fewer than 10 complete copies of the game are thought to exist, and retro gaming aficionados consider it one of the hardest-to-find NES games ever made."

The last known full copy of the game to change hands sold for $7500 back in 2008. There were only an estimated 2000 copies sold through woolworth's in 87 before the game was scrapped. Stadium Events then was renamed to the World Class Track Meet that everybody had.

In the 80's during the big video game explosion this happened all the time. Everybody was trying their hand at creating games, Soda companies, tooth paste companies, dog food companies. They were cranking out games, especially for the 2600. These games had short runs, and limited supplies. Leading to many ultra rare games out of the 80's that are collectors dreams.

ANother example of a high pricetagged NES game.

Bubble Bath Babes http://cgi.ebay.com/Sealed-Bubble-Ba...item27aed0da47

Currently a BIN of $1175

Yeah, Contra 4 kicks ass and is a great throwback to the original.

I never got the knack for that game like I did with MK and Street Fighter.
