Lance, I don't think most of us were denegrating the "real" Vegas or the people who live there --- anyone who pays attention knows how badly Vegas has crashed.
I think people are just likely to talk about "Vegas" in terms of the casinos and clubs - and more specifically the strip - because that's *their* interaction with Vegas. Same as they'll think "South Beach" when they talk Miami - or Disney/Universal when they talk Orlando.

I went there two weekends ago, granted that was Valentines Day/Presidents Day weekend, but the place was very busy. In fact I stayed at the Monte Carlo and they were sold out. Butt heads gave away my reserved King bed and gave me two queens because "they were sold out and I checked in at 6pm when their check in is between 3-5pm". That is neither here nor there, but my point is seems like a lot of their drama about Vegas hurting is blown out of proportion.

Nevada's biggest casinos lose $6.8 billion

By Howard Stutz

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Nevada's highest-grossing casinos generated a net loss of almost $6.8 billion in fiscal year 2009, victims of declining gaming revenues, reductions in hotel rates and reduced consumer spending.

The Gaming Control Board, which released the Gaming Abstract Income statement Friday, said the net loss was by far the largest ever for Nevada.

The last loss was in 2002, right after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, when casinos lost $33.5 million, said Gaming Control Board Tax and License Division Chief Frank Streshley.

The abstract is a profitability measurement combining financial information from 260 Nevada gaming licensees that grossed $1 million or more in casino revenue during the fiscal year ended June 30.

The casinos generated a net loss of $6.778 billion from total revenue of more than $22 billion. Total revenue includes the money spent by customers on gaming, hotel rooms, food, beverage and other attractions.

The net income or loss is the money retained by casinos after expenses have been paid, but before deducting federal income taxes and before accounting for other expenses.

Streshley said the fiscal year record for casino profits was $2.297 billion in 2007. In fiscal 2008, as the national and Nevada economy began to sink, casinos in the abstract recorded $721 million in profits.

Nevada casinos paid $778.7 million in state gambling taxes and fees, representing 7.4 percent of their gambling revenue.

Streshley said the 2009 fiscal year covers the last half of 2008 and the first half of 2009, where statewide monthly gaming revenues declined by double-digits in nine of the 12 months.

"The time period included the two most difficult periods ever experienced by the gaming industry," Streshley said.

During the fiscal year, the total revenue of $22 billion was a 12 percent decline from fiscal 2008 when there were six additional casinos with $1 million or more in gaming revenues.

Comparing the two fiscal years, gaming revenues declined by 12.7 percent, revenues from hotel rooms fell 16.6 percent, restaurant revenue dropped 9.3 percent, and revenue from other areas, such as retail, spas and other amenities, was off 9.6 percent.

Streshley said the decline in hotel revenues was troubling because it came from two fronts: lower room rates coupled with reduced occupancy.

The abstract, he said, showed that casino customers who came to Nevada were not spending as they did in the past.

The losses during the fiscal year weren't entirely cash.

Bad debt expenses increased 125.6 percent while casino companies took more than $5 billion in non-cash write downs or impairment charges on their operations. Streshley said those write downs drove up general and administrative expenses by 241 percent.

In fiscal 2009, gaming revenue accounted for $10.5 billion, or 47.8 percent of the casinos' total revenue. The 260 casinos included in the report paid $778.7 million in gaming taxes and fees, which equated to 7.4 percent of their gaming revenue.

Clark County had 149 casinos grossing $1 million or more in gaming revenue during fiscal 2009, which generated a combined net loss of $6.5 billion from total revenues of $19.2 billion. Washoe County had 32 casinos in fiscal 2009, which reported a combined net loss of $47.4 million from total revenues of almost $1.6 billion.

In fiscal 2009, 71 publicly owned casinos grossed $12 million or more in gaming revenue. The casinos, owned by 20 publicly traded corporations, accounted for 77.8 percent of the total gaming revenue generated statewide during the fiscal year.

Vegas is such a mess. Its sad that it is really never going to recover to where it was. People have no choice but to walk away from those homes

Yup and an even bigger mess of people who were renting some of these homes from owners who got foreclosed on....

that being said, at least now an average casino employee can look forward to fulfilling their dream of becoming a home owner...

The above seems like a lot of creative accounting.

First of all, the "bad debts" are primarily from huge lifetime losers at the casino. For example, that Oriental Trading Company guy had something like $17 million in bad debt to Harrah's, but lost over $100 million there. I'd say Harrah's came out way ahead from offering him credit. The same goes for most other people with large debts to casinos, though on a smaller scale.

The comp expenses are certainly BS. The hotels are likely reporting "expenses" as the retail value of each comp. If they offer you a free room when the hotel is otherwise half empty, they report their "expense" as the retail value of the room, which could be hundreds of dollars. In reality, it costs them almost nothing. In addition, they could ring up a $10 "expense" every time you order a drink while playing blackjack, when again this costs them almost nothing. Multiply this by every comp given in Vegas, and you see how they could come up with a figures in the billions.

I agree that the casinos are struggling, but this is more a result of overreaching, rather than losses operationally. Casinos tend to be huge moneymakers on their own, as they have a big additional form of revenue (gambling) that traditional hotels don't.

The only problem I have with being here in Vegas is that it's too goddamn tame.

The govt. controls EVERYTHING. And apparently the govt. bows down to the Mormon community here.

The titty bars are very lame. (by law the girls have to wear TWO thongs).

There are only a couple of casinos left still grandfathered in that can even have topless showgirls (you know the original imagery of glamorous sin city). And if you are on the strip and get a little wild in a club (grabbing tits or ass, or heaven FORBID a girl take her tits out for a second) all hell breaks loose...the club can even be shut down (like what happened at Planet Hollywood when they got their main club CLOSED and fined 3/4 million dollars for "lewd behaviour" )

They even just passed a law here stating that a nightclub can not allow customers to get on any stages with poles on them!!!! A lot of clubs had little one person stages (like a go-go dancer would use) with stripper poles on them so that when girls got drunk they could jump up and grind around the pole. But here in "Sin City" they decided that is just TOO much for grown up adults drinking and dancing in Las Fucking Vegas to have going on.

It might offend some Mormon out here in the suburbs who never goes to the strip and would never see it anyway.

Shit was wilder back in the tiny town in South Carolina that I moved here from.

We went to a swingers party at a big 6 bedroom suite at Circus Circus this last weekend. After the party I'm walking around at 3 a.m. through the casino and it's FULL of people with their fucking little kids walking around the joint!

Frank Sinatra would roll over in his grave if he saw what a pussy ass, over-regulated, place this has become.

If they aren't careful here, they are going to lose any reason for people to come here in the first place.

Yeah, I hear ya

LOL...you KNOW that "never again" means "never again, until the next time."
We're hanging in - not sure the last time we saw you but think it was before we got married - and I'm sure it was before we had a daughter, who turned 2 last Friday. So things are good

(I actually thought of you the other day, when Kelly started talking about taking our little one to her first concert - and I remembered how excited you were about taking yours to see Gwar )
(Actually, ours did go with us to see Ozzie and Rob Zombie - but she was still in her mommy's belly at the time )

Yep...matter of fact while working at Cheetahs , Claudia-Marie got a $1700 ticket from an undercover cop for "grinding too close"

The law here in Vegas for titty dancers goes like this: They have to get a "sheriffs card", they HAVE to wear TWO thongs at all times, they can't "grind" on your leg any closer than 6 inches. And if a dancer gets 3 tickets from law enforcement they have their sheriffs card revoked.

And that night CM got that ticket they had about 2 dozen undercover cops in the joint. The DJ started calling names and practically the entire dressing room was called to the front and all got tickets.

And then to add insult to injury...all the money that the girls had gotten for the dances they gave the undercover cops was taken back.

So the fucking cops are sitting around getting table dances and drinking all night at the titty bar while we pay their fucking salaries. And the purpose? To ensure that we are all safe from a stripper wearing only one thong or grinding too close to your cock.

Un-fucking-believeable.

And Aaron if you saw 2 people fucking on the main floor of Treasures...I don't know what to say. A manager obviously wasn't doing his job. They don't even allow the dancers themselves to touch or kiss each other at strip clubs in Vegas. It's another ordinance that was passed. Go to Cheetahs and just send your girlfriend up to the main stage to tip a dancer...you know in every part of the country I've ever been to, girls could always touch the dancers. Just guys would get in trouble. But you try that at Cheetahs and the bouncers will be all over her and escort her away from the stage.

Maybe Treasures tries to get away with shit or something. But I'm telling you, the laws here are what I said in that last post. I had to put money in to a group lawyer for that incident at Cheetahs.

And the house moms can tell you that the cops come in undercover almost weekly. So Treasures is playing a real dangerous game that could get them closed down here in "sin city"

Of course in that little town in South Carolina I lived in before (right in the middle of the bible belt) they had total nudity and the VIP rooms didn't have a bouncer standing over you with 10 couches. Nope, a VIP room at most clubs I've been to was just you and the stripper (or multiple strippers). Always sucking and fucking going on.

Not to say it doesn't happen here too. CM has done her share of it. But only when a customer laid out a shitload of money to the bouncer to allow it to happen.

I had a dancer approach me at Treasures and ask me for $80.00 for 3 songs and she would wear a long dress that she could hike up so nobody would see me fucking her. Again, on the main dance floor. That's when I started paying attention and saw what was going on.

Another GFY member got a BJ from a stripper in the parking lot at Cheetahs just a couple of weeks ago. This was after he dropped a couple grand in their VIP.

I was at American Shooters the other day talking with one of their employees. We started discussing all the rub n tugs around them and he tells me that they asked Metro to raid the places and were told that they stopped doing that because they kept pulling their own officers out.

Somebody told you wrong. The girls have to be walked out by a bouncer to their car that is in a employees only fenced off parking area. Nobody is allowed into that parking area and the girls aren't allowed to leave with anybody.

I had to drive down to the 7-11 and have CM take a taxi from Cheetahs to the 7-11 because I was in the club and they will not allow any girl to leave with anybody that has entered the club as a customer. Even though I'm her husband and all the managers knew me. No way that a customer got a blowjob from a Cheetahs girl in that parking lot. Half dozen security working it and covered with live security cams being monitored from within the club. And the bouncers walk the girls to their cars in that fenced in employee lot and stand there and make sure they leave the property.

I'm telling you, the law here is fucked up. It's like they are just trying to run tourists out of town.

1. Why the hell are they scheduling a swingers party at Circus Circus? Isnt there one every week at Foundation Room?

2. Cheetah's sucks. I remember back in the late 90's you couldnt even walk in the place it was so packed. The last time my wife and I went it was like 3am and crickets. One skank on stage and one drunk dude in the corner. Went to Rhino instead and they ahd a line.

3. I'm with Aaron on this one. Not sure what Vegas you're hitting up but all the strip clubs we go to plenty goes on. Never heard of the 6 inch rule and I wouldnt pay without grinding. lol The wife gets dances all night and I dont think I've ever seen one not touch heavily. In fact she always asks the stripper how far she can go before the dance and the most common response is "your a girl, as far as you want". And thats out on the main floor.

I will give you the BS rule on not leaving with a girl. And they're also ridiculously strict on taking out a pen and paper for getting numbers. The waitress at the end of the night guards her pen like its gold. lol But as long as you have a phone to text in the number you're all good so not really an issue.

I was talking about when the girl is onstage in reference to other girls tipping them. At every club I've ever been to in this country...a female customer could go up to the stage and tip the girls and suck the girls tits if they wanted and definitely play with the tits.
Not at Cheetahs.

And I was just explaining the law here. Not saying that the girls don't try to get away with everything they can.

That 6 inch "rule" is a dumbass LAW in Vegas. And of course all the girls grind on your cock. But trust me...they definitely do send cops in and they hand out tickets for it. And when a girl gets 3 tickets...they lose their Sheriffs card and can no longer dance in Vegas.

And yes, they are still sending cops in undercover at all the clubs. I think Aaron had said some employee of a club had told him they didn't do that anymore because they ended up busting their own guys...Well, that's not the case at all.

They don't do anything to the guys at the club. The undercover cops buy the dances themselves and THEN at the end of the night call all the girls to the front and start handing out tickets.

It's a money thing. And totally ridiculous.

Of course you can have fun and get some pussy if you're willing to shell out some big money. But I've never been to a strip club anywhere else where the girls had to wear two thongs (that is LAW in Vegas), that there was a LAW about counting inches from the crotch while grinding), and where a "private dance" or "VIP" was in a big room with several couches with other people getting "private dances" and a bouncer standing beside you IN the room watching your every move AND a security guy in the back watching it on a security camera!

It's crazy.

Again, I'm not saying it doesn't happen. The last time CM danced she did a VIP room, the guy paid her $1500, he paid the bouncer $500, and he tipped the guy in the back $100.

That's an awful lot of money just to get some pussy in a club. I'm sure that girls and bouncers do that same gimmick for a lot less around town. Just saying...the strip clubs here really suck in that regard.

I suppose they seem pretty wild to people from L.A. though. I can't find a single titty bar in L.A. that lets you have a drink. It's all sodas and water.

But to me, having traveled a lot around the country...I'd go to a strip club in Atlanta any day of the week over Vegas.

And if I had my choice I'd go either to St. Martin Island or down to Margarita Island off Venezuela. Those strip clubs are FULL CONTACT. The way God intended it to be.

Oh yeah, you're talking about the Purrfect Party. Nothing really happens there. It's fun, but it's really just people drinking overpriced drinks and not fucking.

The party I was at is part of a national group that hosts parties around the country. They hit vegas every year and it was held in a GIANT two story suite with 6 bedrooms, a bar, two big living rooms, 5 bathrooms.

Totally decadent party.

I agree with you there. The LA clubs are horrible. I guess I would much rather have topless only with liquor versus fully nude and a diet coke. There is one down by Staples that goes the topless/drinks route but I forgot the name.

Personally I'm a much bigger fan of the Phoenix clubs. Lot more casual atmosphere, drinks are cheap and the girls are hot.

Hmm.

Not sure how you got that out of this thread. That's certainly not what I said.

I assumed that you meant they kept busting their own officers for doing shit with the girls.

One way or another...I want to go with you to the strip clubs from now on!

That's what blew my mind when I went there. I'm used to strip bars where the girls go bottomless. I couldn't believe they couldn't take their bottoms off. What a rip off.

Thank god they still have the prostitutes down there.

There are prostitutes everywhere. And just like in Vegas...it's illegal.
