The catholic church is fucked. Let me tell you about it from the point of view of someone living in a country completely fuckign overrun with this bullshit. 98% of the population of the country is catholic...

1) The church is the most important thing here evidently. Poland is the only country in the world that observes every single catholic holiday. They come out of nowhere. I literally cannot buy food for 3-4 days at a time sometimes because they thought up some fucking holiday out of the blue. I then get to live off gas station hot dogs.
2) The worst traffic jams are on sunday when everyone is heading to/from church. Most of them don't even give a fuck about church, they are there for show. What will the neighbors think if they don't see them there??? OH NOES!
3) The church passes around this big plate thing that you are supposed to donate money on. If you put change, people give you wierd looks. You have to be putting paper money (and this is in a country where the average person makes around 400euro before taxes).
4) The biggest contributors to the church are old ladies whos pension is no more then 150euro. The church literally rapes them for half thier pension.
5) There is a radio station called 'Radio Maria'. Its literally like...24/7 Church. I don't mean christian rock, this shit is fucking playing sermuns and people singing in church ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT. It also demands donations from its listeners. You can conveniantly pay them by sms. Old ladies from #4 also give generious to this radio station. The radio stations owner owns an aston martin and a maybach, and is one of the richest men in the country (the radio station is of course tax free. The tax agency here woudln't want to anger god with taxes!).
6) The church sermuns themselves are horrible. I went to one once for a wedding. I fluently speak polish, but i could not understand a fucking word the priest said. Partially because i could not focus on him for more then 5 seconds because it was so damned boring, the other part is because he was singing and talking in the same fucking tone. I don't mean like the cool black people churches. Shit, i can't even illustrate what this sounds like using text so i'll just stop this point right here.
7) There are so many fucking churches here that its ridiculous. The typical polish town looks like this: Church house house graveyard church house church church graveyard house house house church.

K0nr4d, I was tripping when I was in Germany and my friend was telling me how involved the church was in their lives, and people just tolerate it. The fact that a resume has your religion on it because "everyone must tell" floored me.

yeah, Poland is indeed weird. their economy would do much better if they would be less involved with this whole religion thing. every time i went over the border to Zgorzelec i felt like going back in time for 50 years

are you talking about your german friends or did they tell you about polish people? not quite clear to me since you cannot be talking about germans in general. no one here has to put his religion on his resume and no one asked my for mine for the last 20 years since i quit church. nowadays it only matters if you want to be married in church or when you're still stupid enough to pay church tax (which is something i never heard from any other country). but if you ever get the chance to go to Poland you will see that in no way this can be compared

Even in poland you dont put religion on your resume, but for some reason you have to put your photo and date of birth and stuff (we never did this in canada). Austria i heard also has the stupid church tax. We don't even have that in poland. People are stupid enough to voluntarily give the church all their money, we don't need a tax for it

The church doesn't so much effect the economy here. What does effect it is that the country is such a mess and is very anti-business with relatively high taxes for what you get.

We still have a ton of ex-communist guys in government. Starting up a business here takes 1 month for the paper work, a shitload of different fees, and then even running the thing costs you 200euro a month in 'insurance' and other crap (roughly half the average wage). Alot of people work under the table because of how high taxes are (18% or 32% tax brackets, plus workers insurance, health insurance etc). If i hire a worker I have to pay his insurance which is based on his wage, so it comes out that i would have to pay a whole second salary of his to legally hire him. Worker's dont want to pay tax, and companies do not want to pay the workers insurance stuff plus taxes plus salary because it would just not be worth it, so everything is under the table and paid in cash. Then the people who actually DO pay taxes get chased every year by old fucking communist ladies working at the tax ministry trying to fuck you out of every penny they can and looking for any tiny problem in your taxes or in your company so they can get like a 10 euro bonus on thier salary while potentially costing you thousands. Last tax control I got tickets for actually working 1 door over from where my company was registered, and for not having my invoices in polish.

Poland is still communist pretty much. All these fucking people running the country were brought up to believe that private business is evil.

Hahahaha.. you spotted it! There is so many wrong things with Poland I had no choice but to move abroad to have opportunities to do business and to live with my fiancée together and for her that she can do scientific carrier ...though, I still miss it and I know I will come back one day.

I would leave the country, but it is going too well with my gf. She is a dentist and has to work in her field for 3 years before she can transfer her medical license. She is also doing her specialist school for ortodonistry (braces) which takes 4 years (and its free in this country as opposed to 200k euro in most others). Unfortunately, i'm stuck here for a few more years heh

But where would I move to? It would have to be english speaking so she could work. Ireland/Scotland is a worse shithole then Poland from what i've heard/seen, Canada and USA suck, UK treats Polish people like shit breaking car windows and attacking them, and Australia is banning porn and has the biggest/deadlist snakes/spiders/jellyfish etc.
