HELP GFY!!! Need suggestions on wilderness/adventure getaway for 4 days....

....That won't cost an insane amount of money. Vino and I need to get the hell out of civilization for a long weekend, and rough it somewhere. This could happen anytime in the next 2 months.

Any Ideas?

Detroit.
There are plenty of abandoned homes and neighborhoods for you to rough it in.

Get a tent and camp out. You are a person of culture, cultivate it.

Obviously, and we have plenty of camping gear.... I'm just looking for suggestions as to what places to go, hiking or canoeing in to campsites, that kind of thing.

Not sure if you meant to travel or in Floriday but The Grand Canyon is fun and something everyone should see if they can. I did that at Christmas.

Instead of taking Bright Angel or South Kabib trail down, my girlfriend and I took the the Hermit trail down and stayed in some less traveled camp sites then came back along the Tonto Trail and up the Bright Angel. You do need a back country permit though which you apply for through the rangers office.

I did the Earth River white water rafting trip to Patagonia, Chile a few years back -- although that was about $4k. Can't remember exactly, it was a gift.

Those are both good, but I would like to go somewhere where it would just be my wife and I, no guides, or white water companies (unless they will just give us a boat and wave goodbye! :-) )

Basically just the two of us, and no real structure to the experience.

(We are pretty experienced campers/hikers/canoers etc....)

The state-of-the-art 70,000 square foot museum brings the pages of the Bible to life, casting its characters and animals in dynamic form and placing them in familiar settings. Adam and Eve live in the Garden of Eden. Children play and dinosaurs roam near Eden’s Rivers. The serpent coils cunningly in the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Majestic murals, great masterpieces brimming with pulsating colors and details, provide a backdrop for many of the settings.

Is there a park in your city with a forest? You may be able to camp out in the park for free. Good luck.

Well, then.

Milk carton here you come. Futalafu river has some of the nastiest class 4 and 5 rapids in the world. Not the type of the thing to do without a guide. I almost shit my pants a couple of times.

What I used to do when I lived in NY was pack camping gear in my kayak and paddle up the hudson river starting at daybreak and go all day until it got dark, land in a desolate spot (preferably on or near one of the many old abandoned crashed ships or abandoned buildings or small islands) camp there for the night and check it out to see if there was anything interested in or on whatever i was checking out. Then id either go up the river another day or just use the next day to go back.

Pretty sweet trip I must say...

Just hit me, another fucking sweet thing to do is go spelunking aka cave hiking... a mix of rock climbing, hiking, wet caves have swimming and/or diving as well. Just hike it through that shit and camp out and drink beer.

I went with some friends once and we were drunk and this one dude jumped down a fucking like endless mine shaft filled with water... it was like a 15 foot diameter hole in the ground that went down about 15 feet to the water level and the water was crystal clear and you could see it went down down down down down lol and he fucking jumped in that shit like a fucking idiot. I thought I was going to have to save him but he got out on his own.

Good times though.

Exactly!!!

You have some great ideas there....

We may just end up taking my boat to the Bahamian archipelago south of Bimini. There are little islands there that are literally 4 palm trees coming out of sand and brush.... like a cartoon desert island. We could camp on them, bring our own water, and food, etc... the islands start about 50 miles offshore from Miami.

It would be a bit of an adventure, but not a very physical one....

need to keep on thinking about it....

If you are in miami you should go looking for sunken treasure, I think there is quite a bit down in that area. IDK if you scuba dive, I haven't had the chance to do more than just one of those intro classes but shit if I knew what I was doing id love to go look for some gold doubloons, or anything from newer wrecks too.

I wouldn't want to do that in the Hudson the water is nasty from the top of the hudson all down around NYC.

Something that gives you a good workout is if you get one of those small sailboats, anything 20 feet and under but the little racing guys like JYs and stuff seriously you gotta hike out on them, gives you abs of steel. You would need to know how to sail though to make that work, and pack in small floating waterproof bags that are tied to the boat.

My wife and I have done 2 rivers in Northern Maine, the Allagash and St Croix.
The only downside is getting there, esp the Allagash as you have to drive on private logging roads for a few hrs to get to the put in spot. (and compete with the giant fully loaded logging trucks on the roads) Anyway once you get up there a local will park your car 3-4 days downriver for like $40, or you can arrange for a shuttle back w/a local when you are done. You have to carry everything in, its all wild backcountry and some of the most beautiful scenery you will ever see. There are nice campsites on the river the whole way, you just pull over and park for the night when you feel like calling it a day. On the St Croix one August we saw maybe 3 other canoeists in 4 days, weather was perfect, water was warm, fishing was great, lots of wildlife, no 'crazy' whitewater but enough fun stuff to keep you occupied. I will def go back once my kids are old enough to do the trip, I can't say enough about how awesome the north woods are in summer time. You should look into it.

Not sure how far you want to travel, but being from Vancouver I can only recommend BC... A few hundred thousand square miles of forest and mountains, with some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. I used to camp and hike a lot before I got chained to a desk
