In the ring, Tyson. Bruce based a lot of Jeet Kun Do on western boxing technique and said that boxers were the king of the ring. Lee was asked once if he thought he could take Ali and he said no way and that Ali would murder him, something along the lines of "look at the size of his hands"

On the streets then it would be a lot closer but with combat rules like those in K1 Bruce would not do as well as you think.

The issue that Bruce would face is that martial arts, especially for him had much more power up close. This was largely due to the fact that he would use the other persons wweight against them. So to get in close, he would get hit.

And we all know that Tyson can have a devastating punch.

But, If Bruce managed to get in, the fight wold be over ina bour 15 seconds.

ive always wondered this about the two in their prime...i imagine that bruce would be too fast for tyson to hit and i would think that he could kick tyson in the legs so many times so fast and hard that he couldnt even walk.. this being because boxers legs dont have to withstand the damange of kickboxers or other fighting sports

Do you ever stop and ask yourself why no REAL strikers compete in UFC? By real striker I mean someone with the punching power of Mike Tyson. I'll tell you why. There's no reason to fight multiple times for the possibility of winning a shitty little prize that's 10x less than a pro fighter would make losing on a big card.

Is BJJ a complete and powerful martial art? For sure. It wasn't sent down by god to be the end all solution to fighting.

I know all about the UFC. I've watched it since the very begining. It was given no credit in any realy fighting circles when it first came out. No weight classes is absurd. Like you point out, Shamrock has 50 pounds on Royce.

The first one's were "OK". Lots of speculation about Gracie fights because they promoted the whole thing. I'm not much for conspiracy theories myself, but Royce never seemed like a great champ. The draw with Shamrock was the most boring thing I've ever watched. Yay laying around for 20 minutes in the guard. Yippe! I bet Shamrock would have won that match if it took place under new UFC rules with rounds. Of course the weight classes would fuck that up now.

I've seen Gracie take a few punches in the face. My point about Tyson was just that Gracie wouldn't be standing after just one big Tyson punch. He might not wake up ever again from an ungloved Tyson punch. This it the man that punched a whole through a brick wall.

In short I basically agree with you with the caveat that a really good striker with basic knowledge of ground defense is a better street fighter in my books than a pure ground fighter. Most fights I've been in over my lifetime have been over in seconds. It's not like you can lay around in the guard for 20 minutes outside of a club waiting for that big choke.

As for the Kung Fu thing, yeah I agree completely. It's a wonderful art but not much use for fighting.

I'm not sure I've been able to put in to words what I was thinking about boxers. Imagine Tyson in his prime with a few years work in basic ground techniques. Just imagine Ground and Pound from that man, and his legs were like tree trunks too.

There's absolutely no reason for someone that could punch with that kind of force to go that route though. Why the fuck bother when they can get the real big pay days boxing?

yes there's something to this no doubt, being a good striker is a good way to get it over with quickly BUT it leaves you open to getting hit yourself. It's easier for someone to get lucky throwing punches than grappling. A really good grappler (someone better than me) won't take 20 minutes to exploit something on an untrained guy though, more like 20 seconds. They don't wait for you to fall into something, they PULL you into something.

It's a wonderful art but not much use for fighting. I'm not sure I've been able to put in to words what I was thinking about boxers. Imagine Tyson in his prime with a few years work in basic ground techniques. Just imagine Ground and Pound from that man, and his legs were like tree trunks too. There's absolutely no reason for someone that could punch with that kind of force to go that route though. Why the fuck bother when they can get the real big pay days boxing? __________________ .
