Americans are right. Soccer/Football is a rubbish game.

Beyond the latest Australian game, this world cup has been the most disappointing I have watched. I enjoy sports, I have previously enjoyed the world cup, but this one has been terrible, the ref's have ruled this world cup.

Soccer is won or lost on a single goal, and that single goal is OFTEN scored on either pure luck, or on the account of terrible officials. The best team OFTEN does not win on the day, and to me that is not a fair or decent sport. So far the officials have ruined the Australian v Germany game (terrible red card), the Germany v Serbia game (another terrible red card), the USA v Slovenia game (terrible call on the final goal), the Australian v Ghana (terrible red card, and the non-red card on the Ghanaian tackle from behind) and perhaps others I have missed.

At the end of the day officials should not have the ability to totally dictate the end score. The red card ruling should be altered to instead result in 10 men for 20-30 minutes maximum. To determine 10 men for the entire game, dictates the final score. It is bullshit.

After 16 years I am done with the world cup and soccer. NRL rules, okay! And Jim Beam (black).

It has been aweful. I agree the ref's have been shocking! they need to bring soccer into the twentieth century and have video ref's etc.

But then Brazil wouldn't win every other world cup.

The field is too big, and they need to get rid of the goalies to make it interesting. Half of the attempts don't even make it near the goal anyway. I can't stand watching little specks run around a giant field kicking a ball around with a scant sense of actual control -- only to end up with a 1-1 tie. Since when is it considered a victory to fucking tie? At least get some cheerleaders for me to look at.

The reason all these third world backwater countries drool for soccer is because....wait for it....

It's all they fucking have.

i am from the uk.

i find football (or soccor as you call it) boring too. I hate it in fact.

I find it silly as all the players in the uk are paid way too much, the clubs cannot afford them and the club goes bust.

I LOVE Football ... but i unfortunately have to agree with the ref comments. There have been a few good ones, but far too many are star struck eg the Italy vs New Zealand game .. the ref obeyed the Italians the entire match as they took dive after dive after dive in one of the most impressive acting displays so far.

Football needs real penalties for players that take dives and act, and also a video ref system where shitty calls can be referred.

Personally I think that they should score the games based on the acting ability of the players as they pretend to be in agony from the slightest touch of an opposing player.

At the end they can even have an Oscar-like ceremony... "And the oscar for best pretense at injury goes to..."

Bad calls and bad reffing are part of a lot of pro sports. At least with American style NFL football they have the challenge rule, and after a play goes under video replay review a bad or incorrect call can and often is overturned.

Maybe they need that in the world cup.

Of course that would up the stoppage time at the end. To like 10 minutes. :D

Yeah with the refs and the diving, it's not any better than any of the other crap sports machines. Give me college level sports, at least the hot dogs are cheaper.

yes just like in basketball and diving in hockey. take it out the game and it will be way better. Although Italy would never win another world cup if you took diving out the game.

I don't know if you can call it a real sport if the games always end in a tie. Seems more like luck to me. They need to do something to up the scoring. When a single bad call or acting job is more important to the final score than skill its a real issue. They tried making the ball more squirrelly to increase scoring but it didn't help. They really need some rules fixes to solve things.

most of you will never understand football - just like i will never understand what's thrilling about baseball (more boring than watching paint dry) or nascar (300 rounds in a circle and only the last one brings some action). i guess it's what you grow up with

The goalies need to go to make it halfway interesting. I was watching the Honduras-Spain match at the gym today. A player was making his way toward the goal, and for some reason the net was wide open(the goalie was not even near the net). The guy has a wide open shot, he kicks, and boom some guy slides in at the last second at 60 mph and knocks it away, basically saving his team from being scored on.

Take away the goalies and it'll be a constant shootout.
