The oil is gushing and they are drilling relief wells as fast as possible. What more do you need to hear?

I agree, things went quiet lately.......... and the lack of negative news flow is actually raising the stock price.

Saw some boat on the news called a "whale" to clean it up.

Not sure if/how that thing panned out.

This story is about the largest oil skimmer ever put into service, although it's being held up by the Coast Guard until they can clear a few things.

1. The ship is so large, it needs a half mile radius to operate, so they're going to see if that's possible...

What the fuck!!? Why not do what's necessary to make it possible?

2. The oil is taken into the ship and separated, then the water is spit back out into the gulf. They want to measure the environmental impact of that water coming back out.

WHAt the fucking FUCK?!!! Measure the impact?! How about the impact of thousand of barrels of crude spilling into the ocean, in the minutes it took to show that piece on CNN?

The idiocy and bureaucracy is mind-boggling.

People get tired of hearing the same news every day. It gets old. "They are cleaning it up" and "They are still working on drilling the relief lines". Boring.

Just like in Hati. It was amazing for the first two weeks, after that no one cared any more. Let's face it, we live in a society of instant gratifiction. We get bored quickly.

There is nothing much to say about it. Top hat failed, just like it did in 1979 at Ixtoc I. They can't stop the oil gushing until the relief wells are drilled. Its the only proven method that works. And completion of them isn't happenning until August.

The US government has clamped down on all information released, so there isn't much to report.
The FAA ordered the spill-area a no-fly zone; Homeland security is keeping the press out of the area. Your government does not want you to see how much worse it has gotten.
Also, on July 4th, the US governement has taken over the control of the Deepwater Horizon Response website and will now control what info is fed to the media.

I agree, we're a nation that gets bored and quickly forgets how upsetting the entire mess in the Gulf is. I personally can't bear to watch it as it's too saddening to follow.

There's still bays and coves in Alaska covered in Exxon Valdez oil. They're never going to clean everything up. Just do enough to call it a day. http://www.evostc.state.ak.us/Recovery/status.cfm

Can you declare the Gulf of Mexico a Superfund site? I dunno?

According to Matt Simmons, the relief wells will not work because the casing (lining in the hole) was blown out The air is toxic as hell and noone is saying a word.

there's tons TONS of information being released. there isn't much to report(sensationalize) simply because NOTHING has changed. oil is still gushing out. yawn. it's naive to claim the "US governement has taken over the control of the Deepwater Horizon Response website and will now control what info is fed to the media"

the media is a business, they need fresh and exciting stories to keep the eyeballs. fact is, it's human nature to get bored with the crisis and need the next news fix. the media knows this.

i like how the media makes him out to be some sort of expert on this disaster. there's not one fucking expert on it in the entire oil industry, but some guy who wrote a book on peak oil yaps his trap about a nuclear bomb working or relief wells not working and everyone goes quoting the messiah.

So true. If there were any sort of expertise in this type of blowout it would've most likely been plugged weeks ago. lol.

Everything he said 2 days after the explosion, has come to pass thats all I know. He's been more right than anyone I've heard.

I also go on the oil drum with all the oil people and see what they say. Hard to find an answer.

P.S. and your still a fag.

I am pretty sure the whole oil leak fiasco is a cover up for a UFO crash in the ocean. I am suspecting Obama may be one of them.

in BC a government a few years ago decided to spend a few hundred million dollars on some new 'fast ferries', built outside of bc of course.

in the end, they were so fast they churned up the sea floor coming into port, spewing out pieces of otters, fish and birds as they were sucked through the engine

so sometimes bureaucracy is a good thing.. could have used more before this whole disaster

I was just reading about that in the newspaper while I ate my dinner. Sounded like it managed to burn down most of a village when it crashed and the locals tried nicking all the fuel.

BP is too worried about impending take over bids to worry about the oil spill. They may be part of Exxon or Shell if they do not raise some capital soon.

I think somebody with alot of pull and major interest in BP decided that it is time to put some pressure on the US government to put a lid on it. I'm pretty surprised it took so long.

I just hope they can get it fix before a major hurricane covers a part of the central US in oil....

According the NY Times, the U.S. government Department of Homeland Security is preparing (or perhaps already has?) to take over the Deep Horizon Response website - see article below:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/05/us/05latest.html?_r=1

In addition, it appears the Department of Homeland Security has recently reserved deepwaterhorizonresponse.gov - it's not yet active, and may never be, but the mere fact that .gov domain exists further supports the statements that the U.S. government is presumably seeking to take over the Deep Horizon Response website.

No worries, BP is taking care of the spill... nothing dumping a bunch of sand can't fix!

assuming command of that website is not = to controlling the media.

About the only thing I have seen on TV about it the last week are new commercials from BP letting you know they are taking care of it and who to contact if you have a claim.

They have a lot of balls. They have a banner behind the batter on the wall in Chicago. I'm watching the Angels game and they are playing the White Sox and BP is advertising. What a waste of $.

It sure is, if it's the U.S. Department of Homeland Security assuming command - they're not known for transparency.
