I don't think that's true, I've had sponsors that no trailers and had shitty content areas outconvert sponsors with trailer tours and good content.. it's all in the pitch, sometime you pitch around a trailer, sometimes it's about teasing them with pic wondering what vids are like on the inside.

Trailers have their place on some tours, other tours do better without.

And the seconds long laughs and "pls sir" statements sound to unnatural.

I think those are perfect examples of the trailers that do more damage then good to the site.

Other then that, sites are designed to embed much bigger trailers then the ones up now. On the http://www.louisamay.com/ it looks somewhat good, but totally silly on http://www.victoriasummers.com/

So basically you can't put all the trailers in the same basket, great ones will sell better then the shitty mix of clips with boring music background.
On the other hand great trailer is not always the one with the fancy animations, hardcore music etc ... it all depends on the site theme.

It's true, tours without trailers (or maybe just 1 trailer) will convert better than tours with trailers for every scene.

However, in todays world you are also trying to sell the tour to affiliates, so if you don't have any trailers you wont get as much traffic.

Two things I am certain of is that:

1) a tour with many trailers is not good for conversions.

and

2) a tour with many good screen caps of each clip and no trailer is best for conversions.

There are several factors to keep in mind and no site is 100% equal to another, but in my experience, statistics shows no trailer tours beats trailer tours in up to 400%, we're not talking about pennies, but up to 400%, so really have no idea where are you getting this idea from. This being said, I'm talking about regular trailers, the ones webmasters make showing excerpts of their episodes. Professionally made trailers oriented to SELL rather than displaying the scene may have very different results, but they're way more expensive, so it's not like many sites are willing to build them (as a matter of fact, there might be like 0.1% or less of existing paysites using SELLING trailers)

Now I expect Robbie to say his usual yadda yadda, but as I said many times, Claudia Marie is a very special site, while 99.99% of sites are just similar between each other, only changing niche or theme. Thus, when you show what's inside, people will see they have EXACTLY THE SAME as 99.99% of existing sites. Period.

Anyway, you can argue all what you want, numbers shows exactly the opposite, and as long as I'm always willing to jump on the results train, unless shown otherwise, I'll keep trusting objective numbers and research rather than someone telling a theory not backed by numbers (=money). The day someone shows situation has changed, that day I'll jump into the trailer train or whatever makes more money. As simple as that.

No, you're mixing everything. You said trailers on tours and how they affect to sales, now you're talking about members areas and retentions, then say others have theories (whic some of us have data to backup) and you come with a theory that MIGHT be backed by a few exceptions and nothing else.

So let's cut to the chase: you may have great content or you may have HORRIBLE content. Barring a few exceptions (I don't know, maybe 0.1%? 0.5%? 20%?) sites with great content and standard trailers will convert worse than sites with great content and no trailers. IN GENERAL. Statistically speaking. So I'd go with a) no trailers or b) sales oriented trailers. How do I know what to do? By using STATISTICS. TRACKING. TESTING. No matter how many theories you have, nothing beats numbers (=money). You can say whatever you want, but at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is how much money I've in my pocket.

Now, if I had HORRIBLE CONTENT, then what's the point to have trailers to show how horrible is my content? Again, I'd go with no trailers.

then, we have retentions. If you think retentions nowadays are based ONLY on great content, then I don't even know what to say. I'd beat most great content sites with just some good non-exclusive content when it comes to retentions by simply using a small part of the money used to shoot exclusive content to create ad maintain retention tools. There are tricks to do it (and nothing shady before you say anything) and there are business models that, with some slight changes, allow your site to be a retention machine. Bar none.

So we get to content. You mentioned Robbie, and that's a GREAT exception since Claudia Marie is everything a porn site should be: it sticks to a theme, a model that is faithful to her site, it has humor, it is original, it's fun, the model isn't just "yawn... another porn scene" but she seems to have a great time or at least willing to give a great time to her members. But again, this is an EXCEPTION.

More than 90% of sites using exclusive content are absolutely boring, it's just the same scene after scene, just changing the model. Let alone if we're talking about niches, most "niche sites" content is off niche, esp if we're talking about fetishes (I'm talking about multi-sites companies, small sites usually know what they're doing). So, in this context... what's the point to pay for a membership? And how the hell are they going to retain? Most sites with budgets able to pay for exclusive content could be making 10, 20 or 100 times more than what they do now by just changing the business model and the way they deliver content. Granted. In the meanwhile, most companies are busy crying about tubes and those filthy affiliates (who built their businesses in the first place) when some of the solutions are right in front of them. Fuck, they're yelling in they ears "here I am, use me!!!" and many companies are totally deaf (as in "I'll only do something once someone else does it, then I'll copy it. In the meanwhile I'll be happy losing money rather than doing something")

So, in short, you mixed everything and your premise is still wrong. Numbers, mister, it's all about numbers (=money).
