The border's a joke. The commentator says it's hard to build a wall to stop the flow. Tell that to the people who lived in the Iron Block, between 1950 and 1989. I've saw what those States put up and it was awesome. Very very few got across. If the US or any State is serious about stopping Illegals, they should build something to stop them

I've driven down the freeway from LA to San Diego and seen the Mexicans walking along side the freeway.

As for the farmer who helped illegal immigrants by giving them jobs. There's also your problem.

That border is no where near secure. It's a joke.

With all the money spent on controlling that border to stop drugs and immigrants you would think someone in the US would of worked out how useless that border is.

Having armed guards shooting people is extreme. Having motion detectors and intercepting people isn't.

Passing a law to send them home when you find them is pretty useless as well. Politicians think problems can be solved by laws.

Honestly, I wasn't aware you could "rewrite" it. I didn't pay a lot of attention in school

We didn't rewrite the 18th Amendment, we repealed it and created a 21st Amendment. If we can rewrite it, great.

But as it is now, I don't see it protecting anyone except children of people who are here illegally. Remove that from the table and you won't have hospitals on the border overwhelmed with women who are there merely to have anchor babies, you won't have to provide medical services, food and housing to the kids, etc. And as seen by folks leaving AZ, once the freebie party is over, they will leave on their own.

I know a woman who is here illegally (from Germany, not Mexico - I want this to affect EVERYONE here illegally). She had 2 kids here. Because they are under 18, not only are they covered for everything, she has a free place to live, and SHE gets free medical and dental care. Multiply that times a few million.

And I agree with Tom - streamlining also needs to be put into place. But the fact remains, too many people are here illegally.

This is the global corporate agenda at work. The corporates control the government, they control the border. If they wanted illegal immigration stopped, it would stop tomorrow. Instead, corporate profits remain king. In their pursuit of ever growing profit margins, any American job that cannot be outsourced (to cut wages paid), will be insourced. Mexicans are a cheap (low wage) labor pool easily insourced and exploited for higher corporate profits.

In the face of all of the security measures that we are put through as passengers in airports, why would terrorists use airplanes anymore? They easily could come through any part of the southern border of the US quite easily, wreak havoc and leave the same way they came.

California is already helping solve the "border problem"

If they finally make pot 100% legal (no prescription needed) and then other states pick up on that too...then we'll be back to peaceful wetbacks doing the menial labor like picking fruit and veggies and cleaning the kitchens in restaurants and lawn services and all the other things they have been doing since the beginning of time.

Of course, if other states do NOT follow Cali and end the idiotic "war on drugs"...then we are going to have a NEW problem.
We're going to have to station the entire army on the California border to keep people from smuggling pot to the rest of the U.S.

Yep. And we don't really need Mexico for weed. Cali is the weed supplier to half the US. Canada grows plenty themselves. But illegals & Mexico in general will continue to be blamed for the "drug problem", nevermind the facts you just stated and the reality that WE are demanding the stuff. The "drug problem" would probably not be such a problem if they stopped labeling it "a problem" and let adults do as they please with their own bodies.

Conservatives especially should be all over this. They're always hollering for less regulation and more capitalism and free market and all that.... well then repeal prohibition (that doesn't work), put the "drug war" to bed once and for all, legalize for adults, and let's move forward instead of backward.

The corporates control the government, they control the border. If they wanted illegal immigration stopped, it would stop tomorrow. Instead, corporate profits remain king. In their pursuit of ever growing profit margins, any American job that cannot be outsourced (to cut wages paid), will be insourced. Mexicans are a cheap (low wage) labor pool easily insourced and exploited for higher corporate profits.
