Getting a Speeding Ticket in Virginia......

Ok so last Sunday I was on the way home from NJ and boom lights go off and I get pulled, 81 in a 70 ( 4 miles away from the NC ) . So on Tuesday I call so I can find out how much and where I pay. The lady on the phone tells me " There's no record of this ticket yet you should call back next week." So I tell her that I do have a record of it and would like to take care of it today. She then proceeds to tell me " The cop's only turn paper work in every 2 weeks so I will have to call back next week."

I have never heard of any cops turning paper work in every 2 weeks, I thought they turned it in every night/day they work. My Uncle was a cop in VA ( now he's FBI) and said he had to turn everything in before he got off work.

This is crazier than my car insurance people who I got a letter from telling me they OWE me $61.42 , they sent out payment in 2004 and I never cashed the check. Now it's 2010 and I just got a letter from them crazy huh?

Insurance co's can be pretty stupid and inefficient sometimes. Mine sent me a letter saying that they hadn't done something properly for a couple of weeks, so I was entitled to a pro rated refund of the premium for that period.

Then the letter said they'd send out a cheque in the future... ok, so why not just send it with the notice?

Few days later the letter arrives with a cheque for $5

WTF? The cost of printing and mailing those two letters probably exceeded $5, why didn't they just credit my account?

I've heard of states doing it every 2 weeks. Annoying as hell because then you have to put it on your calender to deal with later.

this isnt the 70's they process thousands of tickets in a week. you'll see that when you hit the courthouse if you go.

I live in NC and I won't be driving up there, go to court and end up paying the ticket.

That's just as crazy as them still looking for me back from 2004, 6 years latter yet they are still trying to get a hold of me. I haven't been insured by them for 7 years.

well mistakes happen. If they have 100,000+ members its understandable.

Im wondering ahy you have to call and see what your fine is... it should be given to you on the spot. That just seems like a lame method to follow by. They could easily up charges after doing research on you...

Should be an on the spot thing given with your citation.

Not to mention having to answer all those calls by pissed-off motorists.

I got one in Virginia last year driving back from New York city on 85. I was nailed going 80 in a 70 just 10 miles before I entered North Carolina. I just paid an attorney and they had it dropped to a non moving violation. So my record is still clean thank god. I cried after he pulled me over haha he was a dick to me. I was speeding though so I deserved it. I'm very careful now when I drive on the highway. I just try and stay with traffic.

I was on 85 4 miles from NC, it's $180 and I would think it would be best to pay it and keep on going as they don't report it to NC unless you don't pay. I'm sure an attorney would cost more.
