I watched his brother testify before the committee in real time. Friendly fire deaths are not unusual events in combat and sometimes happen on a large scale. It is not unusual for the military to hide/attempt to hide these events for more than one reason...not the least of which is for the benefit of the family. Also for the benefit of the family it is not unusual to play up the loss of a loved one...as having been a heroic death. I have engaged in combat multiple times and I am of the opinion that even peace time service is heroic and ones death should be left at that...the death of a hero.

It is my personal opinion that the Pat Tillman story should have been left to the initial reports made by the military.

he threw away his dreams to go fight in a war that was based 100% on bullshit...

Don't kid yourself. There is no government conspiracy here. What most civilians don't realize is that most units (especially Infantry units) keep their shit in-house. People can point their finger all the way up the chain of command, but I guarantee you those generals are as clueless as anyone else. The only people who know what happened to Tillman are the dudes in his platoon, his First Sergeant and his CO, and they aren't gonna say shit... ever. Ranger Bat is a good ol' boy system like no other. The REAL Pat Tillman story will die with them.

Yeah, he bought into all the bullshit - but he was smart enough to wake up and realize after getting there that the war was bullshit. He was turning into a real anti-war guy, prepping for some campaigning when he got back out.

I think the new evidence being covered in the movie includes the autopsy reports that record Tillman had three close-range gun fire wounds in the forehead...

It's looking more like he was fragged, though with an M16.

Pretty sure they were using M4's, not M16's.

Still, you missed my point entirely. The point is that the government is as fucking clueless as everyone else. They tried to do the right thing by painting him in a positive light. I never met Tillman personally, but I know quite a few people that did. Trust me, I have a pretty good idea what happened to him.

That said, I don't think anyone outside of his company knows what really happened, and I don't think anyone ever should. In my opinion, unless you were there, you don't deserve to know. If the company wants to keep it in house, that's their business. It's easy to point fingers when you're a million miles away.
