DG and other dating sites could get in a lot of trouble if this goes through. match.com and eharmony at least have real members but fling/amateurmatch/aff are mostly filler and fake ads. getting someone to pay 20/30 per month and none of it real in front of a conservative judge could result in big time fines and trouble.

Yups smart move of them. Keeping the terms not spidered by bots is also smart

Huge repercussions. It will be a cash cow for lawyers once it goes through.

Think positively guys. If this goes through Dating sites will no longer be able to afford to fund Tube sites with adverts. Customers will get ripped off less. Long term surfers will start to realise dating sites are a con and start to avoid them. The more publicity this gets the better for all of us.

The amazing thing about this thread is the way some seem to support ripping off customers to make a few bucks. Do they support cross sales, cards being ripped and other shady practices? Affiliates sending traffic to sites that rip off customers are as much to blame as anyone for the downturn of this industry.

If it even works as bad publicity i'd be surprised.

Most people would think that the men bringing the case were just a bit thick if they couldn't work out they were being contacted by fake women - nobody wants to think they might be stupid enough to be duped themselves. All it will do is get the site name burned into peoples heads.

Hey, just send them to me. We got real escorts.

Actually, I'm surprised at the amount of real females that actually sign up for my sponsor.

They still use bots too.

The more the news gets round that these sites are fake the better. Scamming customers is no way to build a strong industry.

It's sad how many here think scamming surfers is fine, so long as the webmasters earn from it.

However there might be more damages if it can be got in front of a jury.

Sucks for Amateur match, just bad luck for them since 99% of the dating sites do the same damn thing.

Was wondering if/when this would be challenged. If brought this up, geo targeting and other false advertising practices in the past and everyone says " no no, nothing wrong with them". Where I use some of the same tactics myself, I do think it is very grey and not surprised to see it challenged.

No I don't think so either. It really is deceptive. They aren't doing it to "entice" communication, they are doing it to get the person to pay to be able to reply back to the "person" who just contacted them... which is fake.

People can't get away with everything by putting it in the TOS especially when you dealing with customers. It would be a little different if it was a B2B type business transaction, but when dealing with the public (customers) the courts are going to error on their side and if what you are doing looks bad, as in this case, i doubt they would win.

Not knocking them, i believe all adult dating sites work this way or do similar things. I would be surprised if Match.com or some of the bigger mainstream sites do this though. They have attorneys on staff that would likely advise them against it.

no, not even close. More like paying a $10 cover to get into a strip club just to find out there is no girls working there, its just trannies. They looked like chicks, were advertised as chicks but upon closer inspection that chick has a dick.

yeap it will kill a lot of the adult dating sites and any small / new dating site that tries to make money off of memberships.

AFF actually does have some real people on there, but i don't know of many other adult dating sites that could survive with out trying to trick people with the fake emails.

"For Entertainment Purposes Only" is really what it comes down to. Phone lines have been doing the same for decades and get away with it; nothing major will come of this
