![]() Sad to see another airlines giant go away. Continental Airlines has always been there as long as I can remember.
![]() Just received this email: Dear Jennifer, We are pleased to announce that we have completed the legal closing of the merger with United Airlines®. We can now begin our journey to create the world's leading airline. As a loyal Continental customer, you might be wondering what this means for you. For now, it's business as usual. Each airline and frequent flyer program will continue to operate separately. Rest assured, the merger won't affect miles in your account or your elite status: * Both United® Mileage Plus® and Continental OnePass® miles and programs remain unchanged. You will continue to receive all current benefits, and you will earn miles, points and segments as usual. You will also continue to be able to earn and use miles on 28 Star Alliance? airline partners. * When flying Continental, you should continue to use continental.com or contact a Continental customer service representative for any assistance you might need. For flight check-in use continental.com, Continental kiosks or Continental ticket counters at the airport. * When flying United, you should continue to use united.com or contact a United customer service representative for any assistance you might need. For flight check-in use united.com, United kiosks or United ticket counters at the airport. * Red Carpet Club® and Presidents Club® members will continue to enjoy access to each other's lounge network, as well as to Star Alliance network and affiliated lounges around the world. Also, beginning today, Red Carpet Clubs offer free wireless Internet access and a selection of complimentary alcoholic beverages. Coming later this month, elite members will enjoy reciprocal access to complimentary elite upgrades and preferred economy seating on United and Continental flights. United elite members will have access to Continental's preferred seating, and Continental elite members will have access to United's Economy Plus® seating. Integrating two airlines is complex. We expect the full integration of United and Continental to take between 12 and 18 months. However, during that time, you will see improvements in your travel experience, and we are committed to making the new United your carrier of choice. We'll keep you informed of our progress through e-mail and on our websites. More information, including FAQs, is available at continental.com. This is an exciting time for all of us, and we look forward to serving you as the world's leading airline. Sincerely, Jeff Smisek Jeff Smisek President and Chief Executive Officer United Airlines RIP Continental. Glad I can still use my miles with United! ![]()

When I was a travel agent their EWR hub was so great for getting people into the NYC area for a lot less than most other airlines. Plus, they would allow it as a free stop over for any other connecting flights so it was really popular. That said, I haven't flown them myself for years so that was probably a sign.

All airlines in the USA suck. Continental was rather nice, especially compared to United.

I'm taking it you dont fly a lot? Ive flown this airline once and it was probably one of the worst flights. I'm sure things have changed since I have over 4 years ago, but they still don't have any first/business class do they? and their loyalty program is pretty shitty.
ive flown with them a few times earlier this year when US didn't want to renew my status because of an error with missing flights so United matched my status. However, their service compared to the ease of US was a lot more difficult. Delta is the worst to work with regarding upgrades. with US almost every flight I'm on (with the exception of Monday because I bought the tix today) I fly first, plus getting 2 free envoy upgrades per year is a bit plus ![]()

![]() After all of the airline bailouts, it's good to see that deregulation indeed works, and results in more competition... ![]() Yo Jenni, use some of those FF miles and fly your luscious ass out to the West Coast, and be my guest at the Exotic Erotic Ball (Oct. 22nd and 23rd). ![]() E-mail me for more propositions, er...I mean, details. ![]() ADG |

This has been in the works for a long time... There are some insane threads on FlyerTalk about it.
I'm pretty upset, I've never had a good United experience and have been a happy Continental frequent flyer for several years. The good thing is, for now the merger is just on the corporate level, and operations will stay seperate for a while... This month they'll start doing reciprocal benefits for elite flyers which is cool. |
