As a cat lover I can sympathize with your loss. I have three kitties of my own and they are a big part of my family. But it sounds like Princess got to live a long and happy life. My thoughts go out to you.

The loss of a pet is never a good thing. PF's Min Pin died not long after he did and his wife took it terribly hard especially coming so soon after PF's death.

I had to put my Cat "Indy" down a couple of years ago. I was heartbroken, he was such a cool cat.

My condolences PK.

Aww...I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.
I know losing a pet can be hard, my cat was lost a few weeks ago and it absolutely tore me apart, and I had only been with her for about 4 months, you are right, it is like losing a child, I hope you are okay and just remember, she had a full happy life

Nice to see so many other cat lovers. I got my first one a few years back. I hope he has a long life like yours enjoyed.

I had a misperception that most people were either scared or disliked cats but recently read that there are more cats then dogs as pets n North America.

Is this the beautiful kitty that inspired your domain name? If so, you've created a permanent memorial to this beautiful family member. If not, do you mind talking about the origin of your domain name? I've always loved it.

Sorry for your loss. I could only imagine what you must feel.

Actually Donovan, the persian kitty is my cat Smokey. He's 13 now. Princess was my first kitty once I got out of college and on my own.

The domain name came from my online nickname/screenname. Back in 1994 (before the invention of fire and the wheel as I tell my kids), there existed Compuserve. I signed up with their chat interface and it asked for a 'handle' and stated it's best not to use your name. After a moment or two of thinking I typed in *PersianKitty* because Smokey was sitting on my desk purring up a storm and bugging the heck out of me. The nickname stuck. When CIS' chat got too expensive, a group of us moved to the IRC chat on the Net. I spent most of 6 months or so 'converting' some of our diehard chatters, helping them find an ISP. Even formed a channel on the Undernet. My nickname of course moved with me. When I put up a webpage and subsquently the link list, it only made sense to keep using the name I'd come to be known as.

Good thing, I didn't have a dog sitting by me that day, I could of become known as Pomeranian Adult Links or Bull Mastiff's Adult Links ;)

At the age of 19 years and 4 months (a very good long life) my oldest cat died in my arms this morning.

-------------------------------------------------
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I knew it was coming and that I was faced today with the decision to end her battle with father time, but being the brave soul that she is, she made sure I didn't have to make that decision. She'd lived with partial kidney failure for many years, made it through a major liver disease about 4 years ago, but this week developed pulmonary adema and didn't respond well to medication to relieve it. In the midst of it all she had a major seizure yesterday that she didn't come out of very well. We thought it best to check some bloodwork and give her 12 to 20 hours to revive from the seizure.
I'm sorry for your loss. It's terribly sad when a cat dies at a venerable age. It seems like the older they get, the wiser and more soulful they become.

Quote:

As others have said, it's like losing a kid. Heck.. she's older than my oldest kid. Two of my other kitties are 13 and 15. We've battled health problems for all 3 the past 4 months, including liver problems, a feeding tube and exploratory surgery for the real persian kitty, Smokey, who turned around for the better just this week. I'm so glad I'm in a position to give them any care that they need.
I lost two cats in a row because the younger (15) lost her appetite for a week when her mother died (18), and no one in my family put it together that she wasn't really eating at all. I'm glad to know you're looking out for them.

19 years old is a very long time isn't that like 110 in human years?

i have a 1 1/2 year old cat and would want her to live to the ripe old age of 19

do you mine sharing some tips for a long life?

i keep mine indoors and feed her the premium stuff,

in the beginning from time to time she would get a UTF
and i would see blood in the litter. I linked it to the cheap food.
so i started to give her http://naturesbest.sciencediet.com/
and haven't had a problem for the last 6 months

Really sorry to hear that princess has left your side,
she will be waiting for you at the rainbow bridge, frolicking and chasing butterflies in perfect health and form

I always hated the part when our beloved pets leave our sides for the last time, but I always remember the great times that I was able to share with them.

Ms PK,

A few months back we had a white persian "Sugar" that somebody ripped off, left my wife broken hearted. Though I am not the biggest cat fanatic, she and my daughter sure are... anyway.. even though I said "no more cats!" a couple of weeks back they came in with this runt of the litter, a little scrawny black "nobody would want" type cat and brought him home, so I said they could keep him but only if i got to name him, so he became Smitty the Kitty.

After a couple of weeks Smitty has had a growth spurt and he's I guess for a cat a really cool looking sleek black cat but he acts brainless, goes running too fast in to the bathroom and has to jump to keep from crashing into the toilet so on numerous occasions i've had to fish him out of the bowl, he stalks our dog molly till he's too pooped to go anymore and generally acts so retarded he's a constant source of entertainment and laughter for everybody.

I guess what I'm saying is that it might be cool to go down to the pound and get you a Smitty too... it doesn't replace what was lost but from all I can tell it sure does help mend a broken heart.. on both sides. ;-)

All the best..

Yes.. good nutrition helps. Being indoors, being fixed helps.. Regular vet visits are a must. None of my older kitties would of made it as long as they have without a good vet.

The vet that saw Princess the most just took time out of her Sunday to call me to see how I was doing.

Most of all know your cat well. They find ways to tell you when things aren't right.

Princess was a pound kitty...a runt of a litter also. I had gotten her and her brother (a huge brut) at the same time. Her brother passed away when he was 3 (long strange story and I was in the hospital at the time or maybe he'd of made it). My 15 year old, Blue, is a pound kitty... and after him comes the persian, Smokey, and 5 pixie bobs. I have a housefull of kitties as it is (7 now). I'd hate to be the new kitten on the block. I'm gonna stick with what I have. The temptation to 'replace' her with a kitten is always there, but it's kind of why I got the pixie bobs a few years ago. So that there's young blood around.

Thanks

PK,
I am so sorry for you loss...no words could ever make it less painful for you .. but perhaps a thought:

The Story of Rainbow Bridge:
There is a bridge connecting heaven and earth, it is called the Rainbow Bridge beacause of it's many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, they go to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again, those who are maimed are made whole again, They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them most on Earth. So each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The eyes are staring! and this one suddenly runs from the group.

YOU have been seen, and when you and your special pet meet, you take them in your arms and give them BIG hugs, Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusted pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never to be seperated again....

A little sappy maybe, but my mom told that story to a very sad and crying 12 year old little girl as she held her beloved cat who had just been hit by a car, a cat she had had all of her life...
while it never brought Sam back, I know I will see him again someday

Until the day You cross the Rainbow Bridge Beth, I send you HUGE PattyeCake *hugs*

Much love to you...

Losing a pet is one of the hardest things that anyone can go through, you have my condolences... I know it's of little comfort, but at least yours was the last face she got to see & you were with her right up to the end, she knew she was loved.

People don't realize that when they buy/adopt a pet, that it is a huge responsibility. Hell, some people treat their children like pets, thinking they can turn them into the pound when they are tired of them.

PK, you said it all.....that you were thankful you had the money to take care of all your cats. When my 14-yr-old kitty had kidney failure, I spent thousands of dollars to keep her alive. Now, looking back, I might have made a different decision. Some tell me the vet just wanted to make money, and I caused more pain for my kitty by putting her through all the surgery.

Some times we are just being selfish when we try to keep our pets alive just a little longer. Most people cannot afford the huge vet bills when a pet becomes very ill. We should think about whether we have the funds and the heart to handle all the problems that occur when you have a pet. Pets deserve the best, and many times owners find that they put off the vet visits, the high premium food, and the little extras which are so important because we can't afford the expenses.

As Carrie said, Princess will be with you every second of the day. Treat you and the rest of your kitty family to a KITTY WAKE, and celebrate all the years of pleasure all of you had together.

Damm PK

VERY sorry to hear that, I'm not looking forward to the day when my gretch has to go, she's still haning in there but the years are wearing on her I can tell.

Can't say anything to make that hurt feel better, but just wanted to throw some HUGGZ atcha, I know that pain is rough as hell, I've lost a few furry family members over the years and it's the worst.
