Ever had computers stolen? What did your insurance company pay you for them?

I was broken into last week and lost three computers, among other things. Police are doing nothing, as I expected. Won't even show the photos of the thief I have in their weekly crime report. (so I am taking out an ad in the paper myself)

Anyway, dealing with the insurance company now and was wondering how badly I am going to get raped on my computers.

As an example, one of them was purchased in Sept 2008 and I had an invoice showing purchase price of around $1800 total, then I had two receipts for upgrades, one for $450 for a quad core processor and one for $190 for a 2 TB hard drive I added to it.

Do they just totally fuck you on the price for something like that? If they tell me it's worth $500 I will probably go on some sort of shooting spree.

depends on your insurance honestly. i had a laptop stolen in college and was covered under my parents home owners insurance. they covered everything to replace it with a brand new one equal of what I had, which was about 9 months old.

Depends if they are insured for replacement value, or actual value.

Computers and most other electronics are usually calculated to lose 20-33% of their value each year with most insurance companies. So best case scenario, they take the computer from 2008 minus 40% of purchase price = 60% re-imbursable from the insurance. Then for upgrades, depending on when you got them, do the same calculation.
