if you let the domain drop you run the risk of someone else catching it.

How many days are you initial expiration? Godaddy is notorious for stretching and even breaking the ICANN rules. That's yet another reason to avoid them.

You'd be surprised. You can backorder it yourself cheaper than 91 bucks, so that's another option. Good luck.

Register.Com got me like that for a domain I got through snapnames. They didnt send a reminder that the domain was going to expire, so it slipped through the cracks. I normally move them but I forgot about that one. I think their fee was $75.

![]() Stop.
Now let's get to the root of this story because this type of situation is EXACTLY how the name of a company gets dragged through the mud because of USER ERROR. Unfortunately everyone then jumps on the bandwagon adding their two cents. 1. Godaddy is well-known for their advance notification of when a domain name is going to expire, sometimes MONTHS before the date arrives. 2. Godaddy then will give notification a week before and AGAIN on the date when the domain name expires. 3. There is a feature called "auto-renewal" that automatically renews the domain name using a credit card on the account. This is set to "on" by default. 4. Don't attempt to give the excuse that you don't want Godaddy having your saved CC#. Get a prepaid debit card and use that. Even if the balance on the card is insufficient, Godaddy will attempt to process the card on the expiration date and will email to tell you that the CC authorization failed. You can then put your $7+ (cost of domain renewal with a godaddy coupon that you can find on google in less than 2 minutes) on your debit card and renew. 5. Even if you don't renew the domain name within the first week, Godaddy will send a reminder email on alternate email accounts. Sometimes they will CALL you. After that, they even send you a pre-last chance email that is still valid for you to renew at a regular price. When that "last chance" email hits, you have no one to blame, but yourself for not renewing. So do not complain as if it is GoDaddy's fault. It is time someone told the truth about these types of situations. Handle your business like a business. ![]()

I agree about using valid Whois info up to a point. But if I don't answer some auto-dialer or reply to some stupid email that got caught in my spam folder (or I am on vacation) I shouldn't be charged $9.95. Anyway what about the other issue with the $200 fee? Like I said, a bunch a snakes waiting to bite. It doesn't seem smart to do business with people who are waiting to pounce on you for every little thing. Why bother when the alternatives are better?

Call them and you should be able to get it down to $40, I have done this twice. But it was my fault for ignoring the expiration warnings.

Your domain expired. What are you whining about?
Looks like GoDaddy actually provides a valuable service, where you can still get your expired domains back. |

The 1st example is a case of carelessness because Godaddy not only notifies you (while signing up) of the importance of having correct whois info, they email you the information you signed up with AFTER the order process. Then randomly through the year, they will send you another notification regarding correct Whois info. And the second example is a matter of a person in the business of affiliate marketing who clearly is unprepared for the legal ramifications of such a business. Who in their right mind has NO contact info for their affiliates? That is not Godaddy's issue and it sounds a bit suspect. A lot of those nodaddy examples, from the ones that I read through every time something like this comes up, are merely instances of people not reading, ignoring email messages or not taking the time to familiarize themselves with the GD interface. Too many people are playing webmaster and GD (nor any other registrar) should have to babysit them though the entire process. I used to listen to the anti-GD crowd, but I've had small time domains with them for years with no issues. Incompetence is pervasive in modern day society, and some people just want an excuse to complain. I use multiple registrars and will never put all my eggs in one basket.

In regards to the word "Idiot", you need to take a look in the mirror and cast that insult again. All that I am saying is that it is deceptive and unfair to place the blame on Godaddy for what amounts to your own glaring incompetence. Claims such as yours assist in giving companies a crappy name for no reason. ![]()

I don't rely on email notification of expiring domains. I just try make sure I log into my
register at least once a month and check myself.

Lol, where the fuck I mentioned they didnt notify me or anything in regards to their notification emails? I dont have to admit anything, I didnt say I have forgotten to renew a domain you faggot. And yeah, you are 100% right.. they should just offer the domain for a new registration, as the domain is not worth more than $10. Thats what I want to say. Idiot. |

Namecheap once blocked my account for 'fraud' not letting me renew an expiring domain. I had to reply lots of questions and I sent the credit card and Id scanned a while after to get my other domains, never got an answer. Fuck them. 3 domain lost... no really important one, all thought free-porn.biz was kinda cool.

I've had domains w/ GD for years and never had an issue, they do an exceptional job of reminding you by email multiple times of expiring domains and you can't log in to your account without being alerted to the status of your expiring domains.
I use google calendar as a daily task reminder and it works great for listing all your domains on the dates of their expiration. Its super simple, you can set it up to give you a pop up reminder on the due date, you can also set it up to repeat the domain every yr on the same date so once you set it up you don't have to worry about re-listing it every year. You can add notes like who the registrar is etc... If you use multiple calendars you can color code the domains calendar to stand out from the others. Its also nice to see all your domains that are due that month visible at a glance and reminding you every time (daily) you log in to the calendar. Works great for me ![]() |
