Tips for quitting smoking....got any?

Just quit tobacco pouches (about 3-4 months free of them now), but can't seem to stop smoking.

Regular gum hurts my teeth after a while, and nicotine gum didn't work.

Thoughts on what I can try?

you have 6 tantrums between you and quitting. just do it and deal with them. 2 a day for 3 days. nicotine is water based, only needs 72 hours to exit the system.

I am not sure how to translate this in English. I bought some 'liquorice root'. Simple small sticks of wood you can chew on. It replaced the habit of having a cigarette in my hand and also kept me busy and distracted from my smoking habit. I noticed the real issue was not the nicotine addiction, but the habit of sucking smoke, and having a cigarette in my hands. The 'liquorice root' ( 'zoethout' in Dutch ) kept me busy.....
But mainly you really have to want to quit, else it wont work.

Good luck ;-)

Nicotine inhaler worked for me last time I quit. Eased me out of the irritability andbitchiness. I used it for about 2 weeks. Wound up quitting for about 6-7 months. Then just slipped up and bought a pack while I was drinking one night and fell back into it.

I considered an e-cig until this whole FDA thing went about...then my wife told me to forget it, and I wouldn't get sex again if I bought one.

start smoking a pipe. That's what I did. I don't smoke cigs anymore and you can get a nicotine fix without the cigarettes bullshit, plus you smoke less.

Also, brush your teeth after meals and when you wake up and before bed.

And if you feel hungry drink water.

It took me 2 years and dozens of tries. One time, it just stuck.

educate yourself, enjoy and smoke while you read this.
http://whyquit.com/joel/ntap.pdf

One day common sense, and life will simply take hold.

Do yourself a favor, go cold turkey and remember how fucking hard it was so don't pick them up daily again. Late night drinking sessions and sex drug trips aside ;)

good tips guys, appreciate it.

cold turkey is probably the most logical (like ripping a band-aid off really quickly vs. slowly pulling it)

Bingo.
I never wanted to quit, never thought I would. (2+ packs a day for decades.)
Then I had a daughter.
I had a stronger reason to stop - than any reason I had to smoke.
It wasn't easy, but it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be - because for the first time, I wanted to quit.

(I tried using the lozenges, but even though I was only having a few a day, I got nicotine poisoning from them - so I just went cold turkey after that.)

Good luck

This is my 3rd tr...first two times, cold turkey and also "cut back method", quit for about a year then relapsed...that was 5 years ago.

This time around did cold turkey, it was hell first few days but with the help of sunflower seeds and a ton of green tea, I'm doing well without many cravings. It's been 2 weeks now and things seem okay, but the first 3 days were the worse. My wife kept telling me that I looked like I was going to snap (I was) and irritated was an understatement

72 hours the nicotine is gone from your system. challenge yourself go cold turkey, the other methods (at least for me) were like torture. challenge yourself is the way I looked at it and it helped

good luck

First of all if your wife threatens you won't "get sex", learn how to fuck better, and get a human woman for a wife.. secondly, e-cigs work https://gfy.com/showthread.php?t=993749

Agreed
Stepping down is bullshit
Smokers are in perpetual withdraw cause nicotine has a 30 min to 2 hour half life. Stepping down just makes that worse. Nicotine replacement gimmicks just make it worse. They have a 95% failure rate. That is why the government is okay with them.

E-cigs deliver nicotine without combustion, tar, carcinogens
If you really do some homework you'll find the FDA to be in bed with big tobacco and LYING out of their assholes

I'm still addicted to nic, but I found a much much safer delivery vehicle. The e-cig. I feel like a new man!

If anyone really wants to understand smoking http://whyquit.com is the place to go. Some people talk shit about him but he has real truth for smokers

Just like smokers thinking it relieves stress. It only relieves the withdrawl it causes. Most people don't know that stressful situations acidify a smokers urine which causes us to excrete nicotine at an accelerated rate. Then we smoke during stress and think oh wow it relieved stress. It's a fucking lie like a shell game on the streets

i used www.chantix.com after a week or so I had no sensation to smoke. that was 2 1/2 years ago. i was smoking anywhere from 2-3 packs a day for about 7-8 years. i never thought i would be able to quit but now i look back and see how nasty it is.

some people bitch about the nightmares while taking chantix. this was true for me but 1-2 weeks of nightmares beats the shit out of lung cancer

also chantix is one of the few methods that lets you smoke while taking it. some of these patches and stuff want you to not smoke while using them. does not make a lot of sense to me.

and yes you have to WANT to quit or nothing will work

Yeah man if you've ever been addicted to nicotine, even 20 years later you can smoke one drag or so and go right back to being hooked

That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard
There is no possible remotely conceivable way e-cigs could be 100th as harmful as cigarettes

And it is not okay to let a woman hold sex over you
That is dehumanizing you may as well be a jew and bring hitler back to life if you're in a situation like that

Why don't you give her a nice spanking and tell her if she doesn't care if you're satisfied, you'll go somewhere else? Then make sure you're making her cum when you GIVE HER sex. You don't have to live like that, man. You just don't. Even if she's going to take all of your money, get away from a woman like that

That was me
I fucking hated smoking
But it was the one thing I could not walk away from

I can walk away from alcohol, I can walk away from food, I can walk away from the sweetest pussy or the best blowjobs .... but I couldn't get away from the god damned fucking cigarettes until I found the e-cig

If I ever don't have access to e-cigs I will never go back to cigarettes, if the withdrawl fucking KILLS me I won't go back

Oh and before someone says oh you can't walk away from booze ... bullshit, you are wrong, when I was alone I quit for nearly 2 years once. I said I was quitting for a year and it went on to be almost 2 that I was not drunk one time. I drink when I am here because no one gives a fuck but me and when I am drunk it is MY TURN to not care. It is a tool I use to keep me from caring anymore and keep me away from women in this state and that's it

Granted I've never smoked so I don't know how well this would work for smoking, but at least for quitting soda this worked for me - give yourself other options and sort of step down using them. Once you quit, every time you feel the urge to smoke, do one of the other options instead, and if they are options involving nicotine or something else unhealthy, keep stepping down until you reach a healthy habit.

Like for soda, every time I wanted soda or was in a position to get a soda (i.e. at fast food places), I'd get diet...then every time I was in position to get diet, I'd get a fruit drink instead (yea still has sugar, but at least no caffeine), then every time I was in position to get fruit drink, I'd get flavored waters (i.e. Propel) instead. Then nearly every time I was in position to get one of those, I'd get water instead.

Slowly but surely I ended up with no addiction to any of them and drinking water 95% of the time. I still drink flavored waters a little bit on a regular basis and diet sodas very rarely, never any fruit drinks or sodas. And for most of my life, I drank at least 4-6 cans worth of soda a day, and at my worst probably more like 3-4 liters worth of soda a day...pretty much every day without fail.

I think something else that may have helped stepped down as well was that at some point I stopped keeping soda in the house and would only have it at work or on the road. I think the significance of that is that I didn't have it right there during late nights when I was usually most vulnerable to bad habits.

you are to DECIDE that you want to quit.
Right away.
"one last cig" or "I'm quitting next week" or "I quit once I finish the carton" doesn't work.
Get your self locked and isolated in comfortable environment for 3 days. Locked - because you'll be hunting for cigarettes (YOU WILL!), isolated - because you'll be angry and irritated as 1000 devils, attacking/bashing people for absolutely no reason.
Get yourself some business to do - work, books, games, whatever makes you excited/interested/busy enough to get your thoughts away from cigs.
Food - probably you'll eat tons, you'll find yourself chewing 24/7 for the next few days after you quit. Also, nicotene is a parе of your metabolism when you smoke, so once it's off be ready to feel uncomfortable in your stomach and guts, and most probably you'll gain some weight.

Once you quit you're in another tough challenge - how not to start smoking again

A non-smoker for 390 days (who's counting?);
1. Reduce your smoking to less than 8 cigarettes a day.
2. Then just stop "cold turkey."
3. Drink cranberry juice. (Helps eliminate nicotine from your body.)
4. Just suffer the nicotine fits they will decrease radically after 2 or 3 weeks.
5. I have a hand spring loaded grip to squeeze and practice deep breathing when I have a nicotine fit.
6. After a year I still have nicotine fits ? I just deal with them.
I have PAD (peripheral artery disease), clots in my lower leg arteries this is 10 times more likely in adult male smokers over 45 years old. PAD can cause gangrene in the legs and consequential amputation of the legs. Do you need nicotine that bad or prefer that you have legs? Simple choice ...

e-cigarettes inject nicotine into your body
? nicotine narrows the lumen (diameter) of your arteries, hardens the arteries, increases the likleihood of clots and increases blood pressure. My systolic blood pressure decreased 15 points after stopping smoking (systolic/diastolic ex:120/70.)

1. Print this

2. Tape it to the back of your hand.

That should be enough.

I smoked 15 to a max of 25 a day (Marlboro reds). My eldest child asked me to stop because he wanted me to live as long as I could. For them that have children, you'll know how touching a thing like that can be.
I went online and did a few searches on how to stop the habbit and came aross this article on Cancer.org

Quote:
When smokers quit -- What are the benefits over time?
20 minutes after quitting: Your heart rate and blood pressure drop.

(Mahmud A, Feely J. Effect of Smoking on Arterial Stiffness and Pulse Pressure Amplification. Hypertension. 2003;41:183.)

12 hours after quitting: The carbon monoxide level in your blood drops to normal.

(US Surgeon General's Report, 1988, p. 202)

2 weeks to 3 months after quitting: Your circulation improves and your lung function increases.

(US Surgeon General's Report, 1990, pp. 193, 194, 196, 285, 323)

1 to 9 months after quitting: Coughing and shortness of breath decrease; cilia (tiny hair-like structures that move mucus out of the lungs) regain normal function in the lungs, increasing the ability to handle mucus, clean the lungs, and reduce the risk of infection.

(US Surgeon General's Report, 1990, pp. 285-287, 304)

1 year after quitting: The excess risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker's.

(US Surgeon General's Report, 1990, p. vi)

5 years after quitting: Your stroke risk is reduced to that of a non-smoker 5 to 15 years after quitting.

(US Surgeon General's Report, 1990, p. vi)

10 years after quitting: The lung cancer death rate is about half that of a person who continues smoking. The risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, cervix, and pancreas decreases, too.

(US Surgeon General's Report, 1990, pp. vi, 131, 148, 152, 155, 164, 166)

15 years after quitting: The risk of coronary heart disease is the same as a non-smoker's.
After 3 years since I quit, all the facts in this quote are 100% accurate (even if they are 20 years old).
It's very hard and your only chance is if you're moraly aware of what can happen to you if you don't quit. If you have children then you have a good reason to quit.

But mainly you really have to want to quit, else it wont work.

Good luck ;-)
great tip... though i dont like the taste of zoethout
i finally attempted to quit a while ago when i really wanted to. 3 days without a cig and i noticed it was really easy. But then i thought hm one cigarette wont hurt. It wasnt a severe craving, i just felt like smoking a cig and thought it is so easy to quit, why would i smoke the rest of the pack if its so easy? But its the habit of smoking when you have access to them. Smoked the rest of the pack in 2 days and now im full on smoking again...

and you can only quit if you want to! I really wanted to quit so thats why those days seemed so easy, then i started thinking 'oh it doesnt hurt if i smoke one' and then its over.
Dont even attempt to quit if you are not 100% behind it.

This is how I quit in August of 09 and have not smoked a cig since.

Every time I wanted a cigarette I would take a bong hit instead. It made me quit smoking after 10 years of smoking.

Downfall: Now I smoke a ounce a weed every week. ;\

Use the patch and never drink booze again. I'm not going to lie to you. It's been 3 years for me and I still have trouble from time to time. If I was to drink, I would be smoking again.

ice cold turkey. Craving only lasts for 15min - tough it out. 2 weeks you'll be good. Try not to drink because you will slip up and have one - After a few while having drinks it's a slippery slope back to full time

About eight years ago my brother told me:

"JUST QUIT AND STOP BEING SUCH A FUCKING PUSSY ABOUT IT..."

That worked for me...
