mobile redirect and organic traffic

Hi there,

I have special question for some proper webmasters.

I am thinking about how to monetize my mobile traffic on some web and because I don`t have any content for mobile users the mobile redirect seems applicable.
But when I use mobile redirect on some web, does it google consider as some blackhat seo technique and penalize the web? 95 % of my mobile users is from organic search, so its crucial question for me.

I know, sounds like pretty silly idea, but follow my thought.

The web page is ranked by google for content itself and have some position in search result. But when I use mobile redirect it`s like I give user another content than the page is ranked for. Seems like cheating the SE to me and logically should be hard penalized by google.

On the other hand I am not sure if the googlebot does even detect the mobile javascript redirection.

So guys what do you think about that? What is you experience with mobile redirection and organic mobile traffic?

Thx for your opinions.

You can redirect traffic, it does not make any difference for your website's SEO. In the end they index your website, ad not websites you redirect traffic too. The best way to go these days, as far as mobile traffic is SexGoesMobile.com

That`s exactly the part of motivational thought what is in main post of the thread. I think you don`t get it.

And thanks for your ref link, but I`ll actually use plugrush anyway

Redirects will hurt your search engine rankings if not handled properly. If all you are doing is detecting a mobile device and redirecting to a mobile version of your site, then make sure to use a 301 redirect to do so and you should be fine. Make sure that you are not replicating identical content across different URLs as that will hurt you as well.

Also, if you use Webmaster Tools for the major search engines (you should), you will have the option of submitting a separate site map for your mobile site. The big engines actually have completely different spiders for mobile content, you should take advantage of that to improve your rankings on mobile devices as well.

Hope that helps.

Ever thought of using a white label? I can help you to create a white label mobile website in the look and feel of your desktop website. In this way you can make a lot of money! From which geo's you have (mobile) traffic?

wouter112: Actually I did not. It`s like 50% USA and the rest is global mix. I think the best way monetizing the traffic is sell all mobile traffic to the broker because I personally don`t believe in purchasing power of the traffic.

Btw when I use vpsmobile, there is mobile redirection too as I believe. So the user come from google to the indexed url and is redirected to another content (on the vpsmobile white label conent; read the first post)

So is here anyone who is using the plugrush`s (or another traffic broker) mobile redirect on mobile traffic coming from organic search? I am begging to hear your experience!

I used to get a lot of visits to one site from google. I used plugrush redirect that redirected all mobile visitors to different site each time.. Few months ago i lost most of the google organic traffic...I have no idea why, maybe it was part of panda or something and not connected to redirects.. Around 2 months ago I took it off and redirected to crakrevenue so redirect is just to one site and not random one like with plugrush (btw, I loved plugrush). Traffic came around 30% back but again, I have no idea if it is connected or just some further panda update that gave me back organic results..

wish i knew if mobile redirects really hurt organic rankings or not...I think it was not connected but I dont think I'm willing to risk...

Send your traffic to VPS whitelabel and set SGM whitelabel as trafficback.

I suggest you use 302 instead of 301. 301 says that your sites have moved permanently.

What you could do is change your design to be responsive...

Then you can use CrakRevenue to fill your adspots. We can detect whether it's mobile traffic or not and send it to the right sales page.

If want to redirect your mobile traffic yourself, then you can just use a 302 redirect.

In theory it's said that redirecting is penalised by Google, but it's hard to assess the importance of the impact. But if you keep visitors on your website then you avoid the problem.

Don't hesitate to contact us if you got any other technical questions and want to promote CrakRevenue offers...

Take care!

we have around 30m redirects every day in our network and these are predominantly publishers like you who dont have mobile version and detect mobile in the headers and redirect to us.
weve been running it for nearly two years and our olumes continue to grow so i assume google still has yet to penalise people who redirect the mobile user from a search page.
its a great topic of ddebate as what would you wnat when you search in google - the best content or a site inwhich is optimised for a mobile device - they clearly thing the former.

Absolutely yes. My website received a manual action on December 1st for cloaking. As soon as I removed the plugrush mobile redirection script, and after a few weeks of waiting for a response to my reconsideration request, the site appeared again on SERPs.

Google appears to be starting to crackdown on these methods, but perhaps I've just been unlucky and got a manual reviewer in a bad mood.

I've put a workaround, which would be to create an onclick popup with an URL pointed to a script located in my own site. This script checks if the user is mobile, which would get him redirected to Plugrush's direct mobile URL. Otherwise, I show him a large plug grid.

Hope it helps.

We don't allow people to pop our redirect url in plugrush. Use our mobile pop adzones instead if you want to do that.

I wasn't aware of that, I apologize. I will remove it right away.
