1st amendment? What's that? Burn the flag, go to jail says Trump

Donald Trump: Burn the flag, go to jail - CNNPolitics.com

Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag - if they do, there must be consequences - perhaps loss of citizenship or year in jail!

He is trying to rally the troops. His recent twitter rants are getting old so he threw out a tried and true.

Bladewire 11-29-2016 09:12 AM

All media should do a permanent blackout on reporting Trumps tweets, he's trolling them and they lick it up like a bathroom floor crack crumb to a crackwhore, it's pathetic.

BlackCrayon 11-29-2016 09:14 AM

trumps handlers need to change his twitter password.

The 1st Amendment is to protect those who say something you don't want to hear.

EddyTheDog 11-29-2016 09:56 AM

I thought it already illegal...

The fact is the supreme court disagrees with your opinion.

Texas v. Johnson, 491 U.S. 397 (1989), was a decision by the Supreme Court of the United States that invalidated prohibitions on desecrating the American flag enforced in 48 of the 50 states.

Hillary Clinton was a real POS but Trump stunk worse.

This is not the America we fought in the streets for 45 years ago. I don't think this will end well.

Desecration/burning of the flag used to be a crime until the Federal Supreme Court ruled that it was protected political speech. A decision I consider to be ridiculous.

It's a dumb thing to tweet.
And even dumber when Sen. Hillary Clinton co-sponsored it in 2005

I consider it to be ridiculous for "anyone" to consider the destruction of property to have anything to do with "speech".

Rochard 11-29-2016 10:36 AM

I believe in Freedom Of Speech, but just like everything thing else there are restrictions and limitations.

For example, we have Freedom Of Speech but you cannot yell "fire" in a plane or in a movie theater. You also cannot slander someone. You also cannot express your right to Freedom Of Speech on my front lawn at 3am while playing a trumpet.

At the very same time, a statue of Jesus made of dog shit is not Freedom Of Speech.

Burning the flag is not Freedom Of Speech. It's more like arson. Freedom Of Speech is your right to say something without fear of persecution and doesn't give you the right to masturbate in a public library.

Burning a flag owned by my neighbor is 100% destruction of his property and a misdemeanor in most areas.

Burning a piece of cloth with certain patterns on it that I bought at Wal-Mart is me doing whatever the fuck I want with my property. :2 cents:

I would never burn a flag and the people I've seen that do are douches. If they bought a flag and want to burn it, it's their right, they own it.

brassmonkey 11-29-2016 11:47 AM

put it in the grill b4 burning it.

Currently, flag burning is not illegal in the United States. The Supreme Court of the United States in its decision from 1969 has ruled that the burning of the flag is protected by the First Amendment. However, the person who burnt the flag can be found guilty of a misdemeanor for starting a fire without a permit.

No, we just wonder how you could have elected someone who doesn't understand, or doesn't care, about a fundamental American right.

I doubt he's that smart. And even if he was, is threatening the constitution worth rattling a few cages?

I see your point but at the same time, and its something I would never do, but at the same time I understand it as a form of expression. You might burn the flag because you hate what your country has become, or burn the flag to indicate that the values of which it was based no longer have meaning. Either way, its a pretty cool / strong form of expression, and if its an expression, its protected under free speech. If it wasn't, the next thing to go might be the the freedom to laugh at Trump.

True, but what if its your property? What if you buy a flag for the purpose of burning it?

"Why?" Speech is speech and is not a flag, nor is it a statue.
