Q and A: Wheelchair.
Quote:
Umm in 48 hours I will be having my twenty second aniversary. Yes I am paralyzed. Roughly belly button level, though some areas on side or back may be higher or lower. There has been a lot of improvements in wheelchairs over the years. Though yes there should be more. Problem is lots of inovation is hampered by insurance regulations. I currently own a fixed (non folding) action pro T. I also own a quickie light folding chair that is somewhere out in my garage. Does it satisfy me? hmm never thought about it really. It is a tool that I must use. It does the job well I suppose though it could be beter. |

What do you mean? |

See each wheelchair must meet certain standards and like all medical equipment it must have its own insurance policy to protect the manufacturer. |

I always wondered this since i was a kid, so excuse me, but does your penis work normally if your paralysed?

ok a more personal question , feel free to get offended or not answer.. i'm not sure i would , but these questions arent exactly easily found , even on the interweb..
Can you feel your penis ? Do you get hard-on's ? Can you ejaculate ? Do you have sex ? |
I didn't know that... But you are a very nice guy! That I know! :)
|
i should re-phrase the first question obviously you cant feel your penis , but can you hmm, i dont even know how to put it in words, when your sexually aroused is it all in your head ( well i guess it is , because im not paralyzed and its mostly in my head ) but does anything go on down there , maybe tingly sensation etc..

Some people can be fully paralyzed and still get and maintain an erection with no outside interference. If they are also not paralyzed completely they can have full to partial feeling. Some people need outside stimulation to achieve an erection. This could be a penis pump, catheter stimulation, a surgical implant, or erection pills. More often than not these people will not have enough feeling to achieve ejaculation, though a mental orgasm is entirely possible. Some people just do not get erections and rely more on oral talent. |
well i watched this program on a dude who invented a new kind of wheelchair to give more mobility, it looked allright but hard to conceive if your not using it or pralayzed.
I would imagine even if you had a kickass chair it would be strange getting used to it.. I have always thought that there should be a standup wheelchair , but it might just be because i can stand up and would find it irritating sitting all the time.. |

Used to get them all the time, typical morning wood, spontanious wood, so on. This has died down over the years. For the most part I can say no. The majority of the drugs out today sort of work but again they sort of do not. And honestly the best one required injection and well I am not to keen on that. From stimulation, no. Yes I still have sex. |

I just use mine as an excuse to stare at tits without getting smacked. It works too. |

Getting used to a new chair really is not that big of a deal. Well aside from feeling the dimensions. Ok that may not make sense. Basically I can almost feel the space needed for my chair down to a few millimeters. I will know at a glance if I have enough room or not. Again there are chairs that could allow you to go up, and even reach a standing position. Problem with them is blood flow. You have any idea how it feels to be sitting or laying most of the time then to stand up? Lets just say it is not pleasant. |
and were you born paralysed or how did it happen?

Like when i have sex theres obviously alot more going on than JUST the physical stimulation of my penis, but the penis being stimulated is the "majority" of the pleasure, but i suppose if my penis didnt work i would just focus on the things that didnt involve stimulation of the penis .. ( although i suppose it could be argued that jerking off involves more than just the stimualtion of the penis , ). All i can say is its hard to imagine.. |

But i figured I dont really need this information and thought that you perhaps don't want to speak about it... I dont know anyone in a wheelchair personally, so I dont know if the people that are in wheelchairs want to talk about it at all.... |

The true story behind it was that I had a tumor surrounding my spinal cord that went miss diagnosed to long. They thought I had something else that was causing my paralysis and by the time someone had figured out what it actually was my spinal cord had been choked off and deprived of blood for to long and had died from the bottom up. |

Yes lots of focus on the other person and yes jerking off would be very pointless for me. Honestly sex to me is not a big deal or issue. I am not driven by it, it does not occupy many of my thoughts, and I am not persuaded or lead by it. |

I do not mind questions at all, and I feel most people that can hack it do not mind them either. Parts are funny, specially some of the assumptions or fears of asking things. |
very informative thread. alot of questions that i was going to ask like about sex are already answered. :thumbsup

Like i had always imagined something like a wheelchair that was something like standing in a large tube. Like if you fell down a 6 ft well in the ground that was just as wide as you shoulders , you would continue to be standing up right.. your legs would be unable to bend to allow you to fall down even if your paralyzed, now obviously that would be uncomfortable but if it was more like a sleeve-harness that was mounted on 4 vertical posts on a simple hydraulic lift , so it would be like a harness that went around your waist-midsection that held you up ( so theres no weight strain on the legs ) the four vertical posts would be fitted with hydraulics so the person could bend by simply lowering the hydraulics ( and your legs would naturally bend as the harness was lowered ) I might be totally offbase because its hard to visualize the feeling of being paralyzed if your not |

if you have a strong character and dont feel inferior in any way, and you're able to enjoy life, then its great :thumbsup also if you have a gf that has no problem with it and supports you, then even better... |
ASM, Every day you step a little higher on my Stand up guy meter. And today was three steps. It takes a lot to answer some of the questions that these guys are asking. And you have answered some of the ones that have been in my mind in the past.

Then you must combine that with the tendency for your muscles to store up or pool the blood (swelling). Since they do not constrict much and push the blood back up your body it makes you very woozy to say the least. Oh and a small pin prick in a swollen limb like a foot will bleed somewhat akin to a Japanese anime character in a fight scene. Lastly is the spasms issue. I have fairly bad spasms and well they do not go along well with standing up. |

I really have no idea why so many people think being in a wheelchair is so horrible. Sure its a pain in the ass, but worth dying over? Ha! I do more than most "able bodied" people do. |

So far the questions are not even the difficult ones. |

Okay, I have a question.
I remember when I broke my leg and had a full cast it hurt like hell to stand up because all the blood would rush down to my foot but there was limited muscle action to help push the blood back up. I presume at some point you must go into a standing mode (of some type) even if it is to go from your chair to your bed. Do you experience this same pain, or does paralysis eliminate the pain? |

I will beg to differ (crowd yells cripple fight!). I also never had thoughts of suicide and I was too accepting of it. So much that the doctors tried to medicate me. But I regress. The vast majority of people who are not born into it and end up in a wheelchair can not cope. According to the statistics of assorted therapist roughly only 10% off all people will actually deal with it in a healthy way and of that 10% only 5% of them will actually lead a full life with little to no regrets and succeed at life in general. Yes that means in reverse that roughly 90% will either entertain constant thoughts of suicide, perform slow deaths via drugs, drinking or what not, or just give up in general and wait to die. |
I was in a wheelchair for a few months after my motorcycle accident, I absolutley fucking hated it. I seriously thought about putting a gun to my head a few times. Only thing that kept me going was the doctors telling my its only temporary... but it felt like an eternity.

you're 22 or 23 old or so? (this is what i think, i could check in your pfrofile perhaps, but im already typing it lol ) so most girls at this age rather want fun and i hardly can imagine a typical girl who'd like to either have fun having a boyfriend in a wheelchair or to plan the entire life with someone disabled in that way dont get me wrong, surely there're far more important things about a person than being in a wheelchair or not, and i also have never been the guy who looked only on the superficials, but still honestly i know i could not get attracted to a woman in a wheelchair. if i'd been married for 5 years, had a kid and so on, and my wife suddenly had an accident and was put in a wheelchair , then i'd surely support her and be with her till the end of our lives, but starting a relationship with someone in a wheelchair is something that i cant imagine for myself. |
Well I'm definately not afraid to ask questions but can't think of anything new to ask. BTW a wheelchair I could accept but the full body paralysis would most likely drive me insane. Gotta have my typing fingers!
