GFY weight loss challenge!

Anyone up for one?

I'm sure I'm not the only webmaster who's sick of his beergut and backflab :winkwink:

Dirty Dane 09-24-2006 04:14 PM

I need to empty my balls :)

Vendzilla 09-24-2006 04:16 PM

I'm on the nutrisystem when no ones taking me to lunch

Donny 09-24-2006 04:16 PM

That thread inspired me to make this one, actually :thumbsup

But the rest of us lowly webmasters don't get to live with a personal trainer for three months, so we have to take a different approach :(

Sly 09-24-2006 04:20 PM

I'm cutting down to one can of soda a day. There's my contribution.

Libertine 09-24-2006 04:29 PM

Here's my plan:

I weigh 213 lbs (97 kg) right now, at 6' tall (1.84 m). I want to get that to 176 lbs (80 kg) in the next six months.

With regards to food, I'm pretty sure cutting out all junk food, pizza, candy and beer will be enough.

With regards to exercise, I'm planning on running for 30 mins 3 times a week, as well as going to the gym 3 times a week for a workout mostly consisting of cardio with a bit of light weights thrown in.

Pleasurepays 09-24-2006 04:31 PM

i'll do it. will you post weekly stats and pics?

Pleasurepays 09-24-2006 04:32 PM

i am at 230, want to get down to 200 which would put me at about 15% bodyfat.

MetaMan 09-24-2006 04:33 PM

i have lost around 15 pounds this summer,

but i was a hardcore athlete about 2 years ago and was never really out of shape these last couple years but have packed on the pounds with alot of drinking and eating on the run.

i got sick of that and now run 30min a day, and at least 20min a day on days where i am crunched for time, i also lift weights and do situps.

it is not all about weight for me, just working out in general has cleared my mind and i am starting to feel great again.

Stats yes, pics no.

If I succeed, though, in 6 months I'll get my chest, stomach, shoulders and back waxed, and post some nude pics on GFY for BoyAlley and Juicy :winkwink:

Yeah, the health aspect is most important to me as well. These days, I am tired, out of breath and sweaty if I even have to climb a few flights of stairs :Oh crap

While just a few years ago I was able to run 10 miles without even getting tired.

(note to self: quit smoking)

yepp working out makes you feel great, i am 6'3, 237 atm, but i am a bigger guy, me at 220 would be being absolutely ripped, hopefully i can reach my goal by the new year.

FuqALot 09-24-2006 05:14 PM

good luck with that.. some tips:
- sleep is good.. go to bed before 12am
- water (duh), like a few litres a day
- cardio once a day for 40min. if you want to speed up like mega speed up, then do 40min cardio in morning and 40min in evening... you will shape up in no time, especially when you stick with 4 meals a day, with 3 hours in between.

FuqALot 09-24-2006 05:18 PM

with that being said, i just had a double whopper and damn it was good.
but im already in shape. once youre in shape, its easy to stay in shape.

iwantchixx 09-24-2006 05:20 PM

ive lost like 40 lbs in the past month already :)

madawgz 09-24-2006 05:23 PM

I'm definitely interested :thumbsup

What kind of food are you going for, by the way?

NickPapageorgio 09-24-2006 05:44 PM

Ok, here is the big one. :)

I'm at 330 right now. I was almost 400 pounds at internext 2 years ago. (See pics of me vs. Sharky on Fubar)

I plan on being around 250 by the beginning of summer '07. It's going to get tough with the holidays coming up though. :(

WarChild 09-24-2006 05:53 PM

I posted this in Donny's thread, I'll repost it here:

I started January 1st at 240 pounds, 24% bodyfat working with a very good personal trainer, running and doing jiu jitsu. It adds up to about 20 hours a week in a gym, more or less. I also controled my diet, watching everything I ate and following strict calorie limits.

It took ~6 months to from 240 pounds to about 175 pounds. Pure fat loss. I did lose a little muscle, but not very much.

now I'm 9 and a half months in and back to 190 pounds but 12% body fat.

I'd recommend you go for it, it'll make a world of difference in your life.

karrimuse 09-24-2006 06:10 PM

hey guys i lost 30 pounds in about 3 months
i was 5'9" and 160 and now i am 120,
i was very much out of shape, not i run 6mile every other day and used to do weight but not now.
i started running and cut out candy bars, more meat products and smaller meals. if i want chippies not dinner because of the calories. but i allowed drinks and some junk when i wanted but everything in proportion. oh if you do weights lots of core exercises you will burn fat faster. i would post a pic but can;t because no urls till 30 posts
good luck everyone

Vendzilla 09-24-2006 06:15 PM

I just got back from the bathroom, I think I just lost 10 lbs

reynold 09-24-2006 06:16 PM

Not enough weight to loss here. I'm doing good on my 149 pounds weight. :)

hmmm i may try the 40min morning 40min night, i think my body has gotten used to my workout and it needs a little shock to jumpstart weightloss again.

why should you eat every 3 hours?

RawAlex 09-24-2006 06:43 PM

You are too late for me... 19x to 160ish. I win already, send me the prize.

Alex

CaptainHowdy 09-24-2006 06:45 PM

It will be like trading eating disorders! fun! fun! fun!

Yngwie 09-24-2006 06:46 PM

If I start losing weight I will be non existant haha.. 160 poinds, 6 feet tall.. I could stand to GAIN some, but I don't gain very easily. The way I eat would make the average person a whale.

Soda and junk food type foods are gone. I'm tossing the fryer as well. Things like breads, pastas, etc all out the window :(

I'll be eating things like tuna, grilled chicken, grilled fish, some red meats (for protein) and buying a George Foreman Grill (lol) tomorrow afternoon to cook them all. Lots of veggies, fruits, nuts, berries and LOTS of water.

My guy said to actually read the portion sizes and follow them. I've got a high caloric maintanance level from being so big, so to start i'll be in the 3-4k+ calories a day range then start subtracting 2-300 calories at a time while burning 5-600 calories doing cardio 5 days a week. Just dropping caloric intake will crash my metablism I guess.

and last but not least.....the cigs.....I'm on my last 5 smokes right now...

Maybe I should start a blog....and detail all the steps/progress

Actually, you should eat 6 times per day optimally. Here is what I was eating when I had the biggest drop in weight.

Breakfast:
1/4 Cup Egg Beaters with Mozerella Cheese, 2 pc. turkey bacon

Morning Snack: (2 hours later)
2 pc. Celery with swiss cheese spread or some cheese cubes

Lunch: (2 hours later)
Half sandwich w/lean turkey, ham, etc. (multi grain bread...think wheatberry type) and a pickle

Afternoon Snack: (2 hours later)
Cheese cubes or a small salad

Dinner: (2 hours later)
Steamed chicken breast, veggies, etc.

8 ounces of water about 12 times per day (2 glasses per meal)

Your body keeps metabolising when you eat small meals like that. When you give your body a chance to process the food and stop metabolising, it starts storing fat and stops burning calories. (When your body is in the metabolism phase, you are actually burning small amounts of calories by your body working to break down the food.)

6 small meals a day is the key plus plenty of sleep.

NickPapageorgio 09-24-2006 07:01 PM

Oops, left out the after dinner snack which makes up the 6th "meal/snack"

I would usually have sugar free gelatin or another pickle. (Aside from the sodium, pickles are a "free" food, meaning you can pretty much eat as many as you like with no remorse.) ;)

yes makes sense, i really hate plateauing on weightloss, it is def. time to change up my workout scheme. i think i am going to do 30min in the morning and 30min at night.

Seems like a pretty good way to stay motivated :)
