Tea Party...Militia?!?!

I don't think the two party system is working well at all, but this may be taking it a little far...

Frustrated by recent political setbacks, tea party leaders and some conservative members of the Oklahoma Legislature say they would like to create a new volunteer militia to help defend against what they believe are improper federal infringements on state sovereignty.

"Is it scary? It sure is," said tea party leader Al Gerhart of Oklahoma City, who heads an umbrella group of tea party factions called the Oklahoma Constitutional Alliance.

The founding fathers "were not referring to a turkey shoot or a quail hunt. They really weren't even talking about us having the ability to protect ourselves against each other," Brogdon said. "The Second Amendment deals directly with the right of an individual to keep and bear arms to protect themselves from an overreaching federal government."

Part of the balance of power concept. The mere fact that the citizens have the right to bare arms to protect themselves should slow politians from getting to power crazy. Has it worked?

Tanker 04-13-2010 07:03 AM

no it hasn't worked because we haven't enforced our rights

Sausage 04-13-2010 07:07 AM

I think the fact that your people can bear arms is a good thing. If the people feel the government is out of control they can do something about it. You are seeing the same sort of thing in Thailand, though they dont have guns. Sometimes people just have had enough.

Some people want to live in a nanny state where the government runs every aspect of their lives, some don't. These folks don't and I tend to learn more towards their side.

cwd 04-13-2010 07:26 AM

Seems like a slippery slope, and given Oklahoma's history with Militia's, well, it just doesn't seem like the smartest thing

Tom_PM 04-13-2010 08:28 AM

Recent political setbacks? What might that be referring to?

Are you saying that the time has come to enforce rights through some sort of civil disobedience or the organization of militias (besides OK)? Careful, your answer could earn you a spot on the "no fly" list.

Another right Americans enjoy is the vote. The vote might just be stronger that bullets and militias. Another right is speech. Many politicians don't seem to be listening to the majority and may find themselves out of a job.

Yes the right to protest and vote
Right now those three black politicians are under fire for saying they heard racial slurs crossing the street from the tea party members, with all the cameras rolling, no one caught it, they said they were spat on, again, all the cameras going, they can't prove it.
It's got to the point that their is an organazation dedicated to infiltrating the tea party and then throwing out slurs and spitting to disgrace the organization. People that are in the Tea Party are being peaceful and protesting the way government it spending money and thats their legal right.
It pisses me off when they are put down for using their constitutional rights to protest by liberals that just don't want to hear from anyone that has a different opinion, it's sad that the left is not listening to the people , but instead hoping to get it thru the court systems, just like in california
In california, we voted to end the support of the government to illegal aliens, but a judge said it was illegal to do that, he basically said fuck what the people say, im a leftist prick and I make the law. Now the gay marriage thing is back up and they lost trying to not listen to the will of the people and getting their way with the courts. It was in the paper today, they lost.
I can only hope that someday soon, some of these politicians get their wake up call from the voters and end up with out a job, too bad they still get paid after they leave office, thats something that should stop.

Good post!!:thumbsup:thumbsup

Yeah, their latest ploy is to pretend that liberals are infiltrating them and are the ones making all the "mob" type shouts and posters and such.

Pretty desperate. Just relax and have some tea and a biscuit.

Maybe you remember "free speech zones" that the riot police would set up for liberal protesters during the Bush years. Maybe we need tea party zones. What do you think.

VikingMan 04-13-2010 09:24 AM

The social engineers will just herd these people so that they end up shooting other groups of Americans. Divide and Conquer:2 cents: The next American revolution will be a complete fucking joke. I bet 90% of these guys will surrender just by the government offering Big Macs and fries in exchange for their guns.

The Tea Party is just another diversion or shock absorber like Ron Paul.

My opinion is that everyone is going to get what they deserve. If you become fat, lazy, dumb, and spend more money than you make then you deserve what ever the elites have planed for you.

Yeah I remember the protests, it was about the wars, Obama has been in office for how long and how is the war going for you?

You know it's funny when Bush was in office we got a daily update of the death toll from the liberal media, now that Obama is sending troops, no more death tolls, did they stop dieing? Or is that not important to you?

And say the people did that what would happen? They would be shot and killed and imprision if they survived. Any "militia" that thinks it can overthrow the government is stupid. Threatening a politician with death for not voting the way you want him to is not the way to handle things. There is a way to handle it. Its called an ELECTION.

Well answer the question then moron. Why would the people in OK want to have a militia?

Protests have always had there place. I am sure that people were protesting more than just the Iraq war with President Bush, just as people are protesting more than just health care with President Obama. But to have a group that is striving to become a political force announce that it wants to start its own militia to "defend against what they believe are improper federal infringements" is not looking for debate on issues or to vote out those they don't agree with. When your announcement states "Buy more guns, more bullets." you are simply trying to influence through fear, which is never going to help.

I don't like guns or killing or fighting. But I definitely do not want the people in power with all the fire power too, that is very very dangerous. The guys who wrote the constitution knew that militias were necessary just in case the government got out of hand. I actually thought the tea party was awesome when it started. Then after the Ron Paul campaign somehow Palin and Beck got in there and totally fucked it in the ass. Most of their beliefs are total opposite of the constitution idea that started the tea party. It almost seems like this "revolution" is planned and the followers are just being led to the slaughter, I hope they wake up to this. :helpme

Yes because a few idiots with guns really pose a threat to the government. Please, the right to bear arms is fine to defend your home, but if you think a militia of ignorant rednecks can do anything against national guard/ army is just stupid. They will get arrested and sent to prison and justly so.

You know people bitch about how corrupt Congress is but continue to elect the same idiots over and over. So whose fault is it?

At any rate what good would a militia do in your scenario anyways? NONE. That's the point.

Why the fuck do people always speculate what the "founding fathers" wanted or favored or wanted that that was over 200 years ago? It was a different world, a different time. What was considered suitable back then would not work today.

A few idiots with guns? Try millions of Americans taking up arms. You think the police could stop that? You're a brain dead sheep. Besides if things really went that far American troops wouldn't turn on their own country men. I don't believe things have gone that far yet.

Ironically these same idiot go around saying "support the troops" and say how our army is the best in the world. Yet at the same time not only would they attack those same troops they feel our "best in the world" troops are so incompetant that a bunch of bubbas with deer rifles and shotguns can defeat them.

The fact that these right wing nut jobs are all sorts of vocal and frustrated - now that we have a black president - should speak volumes as to where their heads are at.

Where were they during the 8 nightmare years that were the Bush Administration?

To be honest, I would love to see the uneducated sheep, that watch Fox and listen to right wing propaganda, achieve their own back-assward country of their own!

It will be an isolated, hick-run, corporate owned, douche-bag country, where they can all worship Palin and marry their sisters.

More power to them! Palin 2012!

Assholes....

Millions? Hardly. Can our army stop that? Sure, our army has tanks, helicopters, jets, missles, nukes etc etc. A tank vs you and your shotgun. I wonder who wins?

Hmm, if the 'founding fathers' wanted people to have guns so they can overthrow the government when they become out of control (or whatever reasoning) shouldn't that mean that attempts to kill government officials, including the president should be not only legal but a patriotic act?

Your right, we should throw away the constitution, and make something called the Patriot Act for these trying times. Is that you're words or a George Bush quote?

Caligari 04-13-2010 11:05 AM

The problem is an abundance of racist hicks in the US. They're having hissy fits because a black is president, a latino woman is in the supreme court and an openly gay man has a seat of power in congress.

This is their nightmare come true because in their warped minds its "the land of the free...if you're a god fearing WHITE amerikan."

The funny thing is Obama has been Bush-lite so far, he's towing the line like the rest before him catering to the corporatocracy and not answering to the people so....blech
