Are you in favor of or against same-sex marriage?
Supporters of gay rights are still celebrating a federal judge's ruling last week in California that struck down the state's voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage as a violation of the U.S. Constitution.
The decision was a major victory in a case that both sides say is sure to wind up before the U.S. Supreme Court and could result in a landmark decision on whether people everywhere in the United States should be allowed to marry people of the same-sex. Same-sex marriage is currently legal in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, Iowa, New Hampshire and the District of Columbia, while civil unions are permitted in New Jersey. Last week, Mexico's Supreme Court, on an 8-2 vote, upheld the constitutionality of a Mexico City law that took effect in March. Worldwide, 10 countries have legalized same-sex marriage - most recently Argentina at the end of July. Many other countries have approved civil unions and registered partnerships and still others are debating a legal status for gay people. Supporters of gay marriage believe it is a universal human rights issue and gay and lesbian couples should be entitled to the same rights as heterosexual couples. Some opponents argue that the institution of marriage is a religious one and, as such, should exclude same-sex partnerships. Other opponents argue against gay marriage on the basis of tradition or concerns about parenting. Despite the growing number of countries, predominantly in the west, that allow same-sex marriage or recognize civil unions, homosexual behavior is still illegal in countries like Pakistan, Nigeria, Kenya and the United Arab Emirates. "supporters of gay rights"
Would people be more animated about it if it said: "supporters of womens rights" ? how about "supporters of rights" ? It's about simple human rights, for individual citizens. The article also stubs it's toe talking about gay couples wanting to be entitled to the same rights as heterosexual couples. This is fundamentally flawed speech since people dont attain rights by marriage. They attain them by being born. They want to have nothing but the SAME rights as anyone else. Period. Makes it pretty gd simple doesn't it? |
I am against gay getting married..... straight people too. If you want to fuck up a relationship the best thing to do is get married.

Nope, no problems with it. The US is just behind the times right now, thanks to the rednecks. If you look at history though, gay marriage will be fully accepted throughout the US shortly. Give it a decade or so, and someone looking down on a gay couple will be the same as them looking down on a black person nowadays. Totally shunned.

marriage for all.

Here' a better question....
Are the gay couples that are already married allowed to divorce? Or will that ruin the word "divorce" for the right-wingnuts too? :helpme |

Social acceptance thru judicial force, yeah, love that. You guys can go on and on about the Bible, about interracial marriage, about civil rights or about anything you want To me, it's just a bunch of people using the courts to hijack a title when a civil union with the same benefits of a marriage would make everyone happy. 7 million people voted to keep that title the way it is, they voted twice and one gay judge throws it out? Just waiting for some asshole to call me a homophobe, because thats all they can articulate |

It boils down to are you or are you not for individual liberty? |
I'm in favor of not being able to "be in favor" of anything that has to do with people's personal lives.
It's none of my business, none of your business, and damn sure none of the government's business. Don't they have better things to be doing? |
