About Med Insurance in USA

I'm not American but heard a lot about rising insurance costs and such. It may be non professional but I would like to compare paying car insurance and medical. The idea would be pay less for a chance to get paid much more. Reading gfy it feels like people pay a lot and barely use 1/5 of what they pay in medical services.

The other example I have is a buddy of mine living in Brooklyn shitty apartment working a tech clerk who pays $300 month medical insurance, don't know much about it but he says he has $800 deductable or something.

In general, i think this medical market is way too overheated, cus if 50% people can't afford it WHY does ti still exist? WHy prices dont go down? Why surgical help is SO EXPENSIVE?

Say, here, I can pay $1,5k a year full coverage for a car that costs $25k.
I mean you pay much less then you can get in return if shit happens.
Why in health care its always liek you pay MUCH MORE then you can get in return?
Why pay so much? Bcs if you really need heart surgey you cant afford it by any means?
If so why the fuck heart surgery is so expensive? When saving a human life became
something like buying an extrvagant ship or an island in pacific?

There are insurance products in the us if your under 40 that are very reasonable. But with a high deductible. when I say high I mean more than 800. a few thousand. But what it does allow for is 100% coverage for expensive medical procedures. The reality is that most doctors if you pay them cash only charge $75 visit. most medicine if its generic is $5. Even lipitor will be generic in the next year. My personal opinion is that Americans expect healthcare to be free if they have insurance. I think insurance should be that. You get insured for the expensive stuff. This would cause consumers of health care to price search and quality search more driving up quality. Until that changes costs of insurance and medical care will continue to be a problem. Basically avg car insurance is $100 month range and health insurance options with plans that insure you against very expensive costs are the same. But what it wont cover you for is basic health care costs.

Well said but I would add that providing preventive care at 100% or a low co-pay should prove to save money and big claims over time by finding problems early on when you can treat or stop them before they are huge claims. Many people need an incentive or nudge to get these things done. I am guilty, should have seen Dr. Jellyfinger a couple of years ago.

To the OP. I imagine you live in Europe. Look at this link

http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/he...xpenditure-gdp

It is expensive in the states but I would rather be on the high end of that chart rather than the low. Everyone pays in one way or another either through taxes or premiums or out of pocket. Ass, grass or cash.
