Fairly certain (as proven by so many recent articles of this nature) that when your child is at school they can be apprehended questioned, etc without parents even being informed, so while I understand the parents concern, while in schools in America, your children are not "yours" they are individuals who can be arrested and detained.

The school systems are fucked up. Their authority into the students home is fascist. They honestly do not care about the kids only their average percentile of passing students.
The ridiculous 0 tolerance policies of the school boards leave no room for common sense or good judgment.
Freedom of expression is a constitutional right of all Americans. This kid is being forced to surrender those rights. He is not the first. The system has a funny way of feeding information to students about what they consider to be correct.

Lets back this kid up. He needs the support. The system is broken not the kids. Think about it. There was not many school shootings in the 80's in fact most of the violence and bullshit came in the 90's. So what changed? The kids or the policies? Why is it that violence seems to be their best option?
My guess would be shit just like what happened to this kid.

If he can feel himself ready to freak out in class to pull out a paper and pencil then he has enough time to get up and go down to the nurse's office to have his freak out/drawing session where kids and teachers won't see stick figures of being told to die.

I think it's ridiculous how the police handled the situation, I have no idea how the US legal system handles juveniles but it appears they treat them the same as an adult which boggles the mind. As somebody pointed out, an 11 year old has no idea and really no ability to know what his rights are. Something very wrong about that.

BUT...... the 'therapist', we have no idea what the credentials he/she has. Is it a psychiatrist? psychologist? whoever they are can't with any certainty say what danger this kid is to anybody else. the kid is already a fuckup obviously, ADD is a bullshit blanket diagnosis given to kids ranging from just your garden variety spoiled brats to kids who are the next Jeffery Dahmer. And shrinks can't predict who will actually act out on threats and who won't.

His 'therapist' may have told him to draw stick figures when he was frustrated but when you have an 11 year old drawing himself pointing a gun at teachers and writing 'Teachers Must Die' that is cause for alarm. There are innocent teachers and children who have this little weirdo amongst them. Absolutely not beyond the realm of possibility in the United States for an 11 year old to get his hands on a gun. Rather than arresting him the kid should have been suspended from school indefinitely and a court ordered mental health assessment done by a psychiatric department of a hospital.

The kid is obviously a fuckup because he draws stick figures and was diagnosed with ADHD? What kinds of things did you think about and draw when you were 11? Pink dresses and posies?

No wonder our kids have so much trouble's these days. Everyone wants to throw them under the bus before they even get a shot.

Eric and Dillon ended their lives to make their point. (They were tired of being pushed around.) I don't believe a weekend in the hoosegow would have been a much of a deterrent for them.
The schools need to be aware of the social issues on every level of a child in the system. They are still learning. Kids fuck up that's part of being a child.
This kid simply did what he was told to do by adults to relieve his stress and frustration. He was taken to jail for it. Did that help his situation or does he now just hate the schools more? He most likely hates the police now too.

I don't know how it is in every state, but in both of my kid's schools (one in high school, one in elementary) there is no longer a nurse except for one half day a week. If they need anything at all, I have to go pick them up. There's no quiet place to rest out a headache or stomachache or anything. And they've both had teachers that would write them up for leaving class for any reason, so I can see this kid asking to leave "because he's upset" and being told to sit back down and be quiet, which of course would only drive his anger more. I fucking hate the school system.

Yeah, I do have to keep that in mind because that was something I was not use to when growing up. We have half day nurses at the boy's school however there is a place they can go lay down and they have one of the best counselors. I know not every school is lucky to have what they do - especially in the public school system.

i know why...its because even the psychologists and psychiatrists are sheep, who follow trends....not too mention they changed definitions to include vague references such as, moody, talkative, untalkative..lol what a crackpot system we have going

the main reason is because the pharmaceuticals were allowed to setup focus groups and support groups for people, thereby fueling their cause.

i would love to see us adopt a system where you are measured on your contribution to society. ripping people off and hiding cures so you can sell treatment pills should be punishable by serious jail time.
