Now that the thyroid is going insane, she all but passes out and can't work every day... 4 hours or less when she can. I am luck if her paychecks are $200 /wk at this point. And they still have her trying to beat an 8hr sales clock whether she works those hours or not. So no commission now.

Basically right now from her I have $800/mo

Rent here is $610
Utils are about $100
Gas driving her to work monthly $100
(She can not be in the heat- I must drive her both ways about 5 miles)

So you do the math

Last month it cost me about $700 to be here with her (it is her apartment, bills got behind) but she'd been on the street without my help

And I WAS staying in a hotel room that cost me $700/mo
I was happy there but we always were together anyway and this is a lot better - she is convenient to cook and blow me and everything - great company when she's not thyroiding out

We're working together and it's great but dealing with someone going through this thyroid thing WILL drive a man INSANE

How am I sponging off of her when I payed 85% of everything at the beginning of this month? Why do people keep saying that?

Some places are kind and if they see you have no money, may be able to waive most of the bill as a charitable cause (I don't know how they accomplish this but I know it can be done). If they can do that for you though, it doesn't include the private doctors that will visit you, check your chart, ask you how you are feeling, then leave.

Best of luck, I hope your girl feels better and finds help for her issues.
Nothing sucks more than having to helplessly watch someone suffer you care about.

I considered that, I am more than willing to repay whatever the fees are where ever we go (the scam part is getting her seen without insurance at all)... I just don't know that it will work..

Because you have said in the past that you don't pay 50/50 of rent, utilities, groceries, etcetera because you are such a lifechanger.

Do you have a job? Have you paid 50/50 of all expenses in her household since you started living there excluding this extraordinary month? If not, then I guess you now have your answer.

Ok, seriously, forget about taxes, pride, anything else that get's in the way of proper medical care. Based on her income and the fact it is now reduced because of her illness she more than qualifies for medical assistance.

Go do something for her now! And don't go as her "boyfriend" or your income will come into the equation. She more than qualifies. Any procrastination on your part is irresponsible.

Her doctor says now she will hear from the endo she's trying to get us into "any day now"
She says she had another patient with this who chose to ignore it and let it go and the woman died, so I think even though she's just a GP she's very much concerned on the ball (I hope)

One great thing was she admitted that she isn't trained for thyroid problems.. Most GPs think they're christ sitting on a golden cracker orgasming platinum cheese on the minute

A lot of endos suck at treating thyroid problems as well. That's why it's important to do a little research (check that realthyroidhelp forum) so you walk in prepared.

Make sure she gets a prescription for dessicated thyroid (Armour, Nature Thyroid, etc) that contains both T4 and T3. Not just Synthroid (which just about every doc wants to prescribe now) that is only T4.

Hope it all works out. Hypothyroidism is awful especially when you aren't being treated right.

The worst part is, once she starts taking thyroid meds, even if they aren't enough, the signal her brain sends to her thyroid (TSH) might fall within range and most doctors will say "she's fine now" even though she doesn't really feel any better.

Save yourself a headache:

1. Insist on dessicated thyroid medication like Armour. Shit you can order this online for 30 bucks for a 3 month supply w/o a prescription.

2. When getting bloodwork done insist on these tests minimally: TSH, Total T4, Free T3.

3. Insist that her doctor allows her to adjust her dose based on the alleviation of symptoms, not what labs on a piece of paper say.

4. Get labwork done in the morning BEFORE she takes any of her thyroid medication.

5. Ideally, she wants Free T3 close to the top of the range. This is the active thyroid hormone. Having it towards the top of the range means there is more available for her cells to use.

I was so fed up with doctors pushing me from this endocrinologist to that endocrinologist, etc... I just decided to use my GP to order bloodwork and order my thyroid medication w/o a prescription.

I feel much better now and saved a lot of time and $ once I stopped jumping from doctor to doctor.

It's not that hard to treat once you have a plan... and the medication is very affordable.

Hit me up if you have any questions.

Intersting take. But the fact is my friend, I have no idea what this "You wouldn't exist without us" crappola you're trying to sell is all about. Fact is we (Canada) are your (the USA's) largest trade partner and have been for some time, Not just for oil, but for nearly everything... electricity, all manner of raw materials, etc. You are also OUR largest trade partner by far, but the dependancy isn't a one-way street my mis-informed friend, the flow of $ and good and services goes both ways.

However none of that matters in the present conversation where all I meant by wishing you were Canadian right now is that if you were here and had your citizenships then all you would need do is take your woman to any regular doctor, get a referral, and when your appointment date arrives you go see the specialist you needed to see and treatment proceeds from there.

And the best part is at the end of it all they present you with no bill of any kind.

Now some will want to chime in and prattle on about high taxes or some such nonsense. But the thing they conveniently forget is that if you Americans factor in the thousands per year you pay for health insurance along with your income tax/taxes/cost of living etc the reality is you are paying more than we are, and many of you are getting less for it.

Does that help you out some with your skewed take on Canada? Hope so.

Good luck with your problem.

I didn't read every post, but I read where said some doc wouldn't see her without insurance. I didn't have insurance for ten years and I normally got a cash discount when I asked. I never had a doctor not see me because of no insurance, so maybe talk to a different doctor.

Did you tell the doctor there's no insurance AND YOU'RE NOT GOING TO PAY THEM?
That could be an issue. In that case you'll need to do some homework to get some help, or spend that time working this plan:

Call a couple of doctors and say you know how much time they waste on insurance paperwork, then they have to wait to get paid. Then ask for a cash price. It might be day $100 for the doc and $100 for the lab.

Deliver pizzas for a couple hours per night for a week.

Go to the doctor using pizza money.

Keep delivering pizzas until you find a better gig.

Another thing I did once when I had an eye infection and was broke was I into the doctor's office with my $5 and humbly explained the issue. The doc saw me free and wrote a $3 prescription. I went in a year later and insisted on paying though they had trouble figuring out how to ring it up.

Sorry, I wasn't insinuating you wouldn't pay. I was just stating that you could technically pay them 5 bucks a month until you guys get in a better spot, and as long as you are giving them something, there wont be any issues. The drawback is that it is hella expensive but they have all the tools there and she will be taken care of, at least in my opinion, better than a private doctor.

Here in Southwest Florida, they will take you in with or without insurance and send you a bill a few weeks after you get out. If you get lucky, the hospital can loo for charitable donations or however they do it and cut a big portion, if not all of the hospitals bill but I don't know how that works or how one becomes eligible for that.

I remember watching sicko and theyy showed hospitals in L.A. dumping people so I don't know if what works here works where you are. Ether way. if you keep getting the run around, it may have to be your final choice.

Affording insurance isn't the problem for a lot of people, it's getting the insurance. Like you said it's gambling and insurance companies don't want to gamble with older people or those with existing conditions. So many, I'm one, have no health care because privately held corporations have to watch bottom lines.

No executive bonuses if you pay out to many claims.

Two things come out of this thread for me.

1. If you live in the USA, get sick and don't have money then you're fucked. Seemingly there are some third world countries with better public health systems.

2. MrMaxwell should really get a job.

Yeah you can, in fact you can't be refused anymore for pre existing conditions. However the insurance company can charge up to 150% more than the normal rate. IE if normal is $100 a month they can charge up to $250 a month. I know cause I just got a new policy for my daughter.

No shit? I was cancelled from Blue Cross after 20 plus years. Then couldn't get anyone else to even give a quote.

Excellent advice here, read and follow.

Americans have begun scamming residency in Canada to come over for treatment... It's not long before we're like the mexicans who have always been coming into our country stealing everything from united states Americans, that is going to be us trying to come and get your stuff Desperation is what it is It is so sad that we were such a great nation until the white tie people raped us all TO DEATh and STILL WEREN'T HAPPY and BORROWED EVEN MORE again and again until we're not just raped but raped to death and then enslaved with a permanent dick up our tiny little buttholes

PS: I didn't have time to read your post yet .. will tomorrow . . I am just ranting!! LoL

Our government will see to that

Ah I don't know too much about dealing with a hyperthyroid.

I know she'd probably have bad anxiety / heart palps and weight loss if hyper. Probably have a high temperature a lot of the time as well.

Wish I could help more, good luck!

A two-three days trip togheter in canada`s hospitals may fix the problem. Otherwise, Europa may be a solution too. Fuck Obama.

pre-existing condition override does not kick in until 2014 for many many people like me with diabetes and other diseases.

might want to attack the problem from the proper angle too, 300 pounds = obese = thyroid issues.

start with the diet.

If you were truly desperate you'd go get a job at McDonald's and work to getting insurance for you two. The problem isn't with the American health care system it's with lazy fucks.

That's the problem with private health insurance. You're reliant on a private company to keep you well or even alive. Sucks.

I was never ill or needed hospital treatment, except the occasional cold, from 1965 to 2008. Paid out my Health insurance like I should.

2009 I discover I have cancer and get it cured on the National Health. I paid $2 a visit to the doctor. Now I find out I have a hole in my gums and need a specialist dental surgeon. And the specail food I injected into me, free on prescription, for over a year has given me a hernia. It's common apparently. (shit!!) And will need an operation, free on National Health. I also see 2 specialists every 3 months, alternatively getting a ultra sound scan or a camera down my nose before hand. Just to check up. Free on the National Health.

I'm also getting invalid benefit.

All paid for over the years.

If I had been run over badly when I was 15 and wheel chair bound for the rest of my life, I would of been covered. Or anything else. I'm prepared to carry the few layabouts for the benefits. Yes they should be made to work, sweep the streets etc. But not at the cost of going to a Private Health Scheme.

For years I had one of those to give me a private room and no waiting time at my doctors. That's an option open to many.

Some of the replies here are disgusting. You guys need to have some shit hit you, to make you realise what it feels like. Not much, just a little bit.

I have yet to see one single constructively helpful reply from you on any fucking post you have made. What's your deal man? Did you get abused as a child or wronged somehow in your life and must take it out on others in an "behind a keyboard" manner?

Yeah!! It really sucks that she could not have found work with better benefits BEFORE being diagnosed with this... I guess most of the time, though, even if you find something in time there's probably some kind of a cooling off period or some shit, right? I don't know.. Like this, I doubt she could get that good health coverage and two weeks later be magically diagnosed with thyroid problems and actually end up being covered... right?
