From what you have said the only difference would have been if the robber did not have a gun to use rather than if somebody else did.

So, guns are bad - again....

Why are you trolling me all of a sudden? I've seen you post here that although you have no problems with me, we would never be friends. I'm fine with that but now things have changed?

Whatever dude. Enjoy your trolling. Considering the kind of racist ignorant ass you have proven yourself to be, your thoughts and opinions carry zero weight for most of GFY.

Have a beautiful day filled with angry behavior.

There needs to be a 7 day waiting period before you can shop at a wal-mart.

He has a concealed weapons permit, so it's not about the supermarket, it's about having a gun at all times. He wasn't like "Going to the supermarket, better bring my gun just in case...." It's "leaving the house. Gun? Check".

You don't get to plan when something like the above happens. In Miami where concealed weapons are allowed, if you saw a police officer shoot someone in the back of the head at 7-11, you're within your rights to shoot the police officer, because whose to say you're not next?

US culture is just much different than say northern Europe.

My wife is from Mexico City and I really do want to spend some years of my life living there, and I'm still not sure what I'd do as far as a gun goes. It's illegal to carry a concealed weapon, but I feel like it's kind of retarded not to have one in a city like that. I know I would never use my gun unless my family's life was in danger (ie if I was in a car jacking they could have my car, just not my family) but sometimes they came for your family, not your car... How could I live with myself if I hadn't prepared myself for that moment? Then again, do I want to spend years of my life in a Mexican prison because I was walking around with a gun? I dunno. I know I'd rather be in jail with my family alive than be physically free but with no family because I refused to protect them.

Then again, if they seriously came for your kids, would your handgun help against 8 guys with automatic rifles?

Just waiting for a couple of ex-marines to arrive and we'll be sorted.

If everyone carried a gun and it was assumed that everyone did, there would be a LOT less violence like this, that's for sure. If it weren't for the fact that I'd shoot the first idiot who threw gang signs at me, id carry one too.

Personally, if I ever lived in a place where I felt the need to carry a gun to feel safe, I'd move.

I'm from Canada myself. Just I understand how much different it is here to the USA.

How long ago was it when just about everybody carried some form of personal protection, whether it was a knife, sword, gun, etc? 100 years? 3 generations? And now it's just "crazy" that *anyone* in the world should continue to do so? Some people are a lot less willing to hand over their personal safety to a set of externally controlled processes.

Like oh, that man is raping that woman in the bus seat across from me. Let me check what the correct procedure for that is. Here in Canada, that would likely be... everyone would give themselves a "safe distance" to keep away from the rape in progress, the ladies would scream hysterically and cry, and the men would look around at each other like "are we really going to get involved? Me? You? You first..."

Without security there, people are just lost now for the most part. Maybe 1 in 50 people here have the willingness coupled with the capability of dealing with intense situations like that. I'm pretty sure not having a weapon is a big part of that. Not "oh I have a gun I'm going to use it" necessarily, but the mentality that comes with being a person who carries a weapon. People who walk around with a knife have thought about using it. Same goes with any weapon. It prepares you simply by possessing it. People who have never carried a weapon have likely never prepared themselves mentally the same way a person who does carry has.

If I were the kind of American who thought that what we do here is normal and everybody else is screwed up then that would make sense. However, that's not the case.

Our country is different, our laws are different. Yes, I think carrying a gun is fairly normal for U.S. citizens but I'm not suggesting it's normal everywhere else. I'm also not suggesting that our gun situation is better. It is what it is, I'm just making the most of it.

I've had to draw my gun twice in the last 20 years. That's two more times than anybody should ever need to do such a thing. I'm just glad that my actions stopped the violent intentions of the other two people or I might not be alive today. In one of the cases, a guy was running towards me with a fire axe. The fishing pole I had with me wasn't going to make him think twice about his actions.

Obviously more guns is not the answer to a safer society but I'm also smart enough to realize that no matter what you or I think, this country will continue to sell more guns anyway. Another thing I know is that I trust myself and my intentions more than I trust the intentions of others.

Yeah, sure you would. I bet 99.9% that carry would be cowering behind some old lady or hiding under a desk if a gunfight broke out.

Yes, the U.S. would be much better off if the millions of CCW holders were on drugs.

I think you're paranoid of CCW holders. Why? WTF are you afraid that a law abiding citizen is going to do to you? What do you care if they carry a concealed weapon?

More importantly, what if some shit went down and the only thing standing between you/your family and a bullet was the guy sitting next to you who was packing? Should he sit there and let you get shot or should he take action to protect himself and the others around him?

Maybe you should focus on the crazy fuckers out there who illegally carry rather than those of us who the Government has given the rights to do so.

I really hope that was an attempt at sarcasm, because if you actually believe that well then

Where did I say that? I know people that have CCW permits that don't have a gun attached at their hip 24/7.

Unless you live some some extreme shithole where violence is constantly breaking out I just don't see the need to have a gun on you or within arms reach.

Sorry but I don't think its 'normal' for people to be carrying guns in the US, in my 45 years I've only known 1 person that carried and he was a paranoid right wing wacko afraid that the mexicans were going to stab him one day, or the blacks were going to shoot him, or the govt was going to get him. Thats the type of people that carry, as we saw in Florida.

gun ownership is your right and not a privilege. most people that own guns don't go around shooting people.

If more people had this type of attitude, ultimately there'd be less need for guns. Unfortunately that's not the case and the very reason I understand this point of view.

That from a Canadian who doesn't own a gun.

You must be part of the 20% of people in the Boston area not packing.....

About shitholes.........would you feel safe in Lynn at night, walking alone.....

I'm Canadian, and if I could carry, I would............

BTW, ALL my friends in the Boston area are packing......ok, most are cops, but that's not relevant when 80% of people do.........

Just because he carries, does not mean he is scared.
He is just being cautious of the crazy society we live in.
Would you not want to protect yourself or family or innocent person if you needed to?

I do not want to hear the macho I would beat someone's ass, I don't need a gun or knife.

You would be cut or shot, so is that smart?

Let the crime just happen against you, your family, or other innocent person?

My Brother took 2+ bullets protecting a lady in a Lubby?s restaurant in Killeen Texas. A crazy person drove his car right through the window got out and started dropping people. My brother was not armed, at the time, and blocked a shot with his body for a lady at the salad bar. he then went to disarm the guy with the gun and was shot again.
Another lady in the store visiting from a state where she had a CCW went to her purse to pull her gun, but she did not have it with her, because at the time Texas was NOT CCW.

Have a Nice day.

That incident prompted Texas's concealed carry law.

"In response to the massacre,[5] the Texas Legislature in 1995 passed a shall-issue gun law, which requires that all qualifying applicants be issued a Concealed Handgun License (the state's required permit to carry concealed weapons), removing the personal discretion of the issuing authority to deny such licenses. To qualify for a license, one must be free-and-clear of crimes, attend a minimum 10-hour class taught by a state-certified instructor, pass a 50-question test, show proficiency in a 50-round shooting test, and pass two background tests, one shallow and one deep. The license costs $240 to $290, depending on the added instructor's fee.

The law had been campaigned for by Dr. Suzanna Hupp, who was present at the time of the shootout where both of her parents were shot and killed. She later expressed regret for obeying the law by leaving her firearm in her car rather than keeping it on her person due to the fact that it could have cost her her chiropractic license.[6] She testified across the country in support of concealed handgun laws, and was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1996.[7] The law was signed by then-Governor George W. Bush.[8]
