![]() Pop quiz, please answer which company you would most likely promote. Company A or Company B. Also, please explain the reasoning behind your choice.
Company A: This company has top-notch support. Just the absolute best of the best people to deal with. The are always considerate and polite and constantly express how thankful they are to have you on board with them. They're also always around whenever you need something, day or night. Like a good neighbor, company A is there... hell you could chat with them even if it wasn't about business. BUT your conversions with this company aren't anything to write home about. Some months are better than others, but nothing spectacular. You perform modestly with them. Let's say you make $750 a month with them. Would you rather promote Company A, OR..... Promote Company B. This company has horrible support. The people don't really give a shit about you and to them, you're just another annoying affiliate. You wait around for weeks just for a simple 468x60 custom banner. Each time you have to communicate with them, it's like getting your teeth pulled. Tons of "forgotten" emails and unnanswered ICQ's. BUT conversions with this company are always stable. You know your ratios are going to be great week to week. Let's say you make $1,000 a month with them. Sooo, which company are you more likely to promote? Let's also assume both of them pay on time. Both of them are established and will not dissapear over night and both of them have just about the same promo tools and content available for you. Both of them buy you the same amount of booze at a convention... ![]() I've always been curious about this. I'm not sure if there is a right or wrong answer here. Some people will say cash is king while others will go with someone they can see eye to eye with and feel appreciated. Looking forward to hearing your opinions... |

If we're only talking about a difference of $250 I'd go with Company A. I'd be willing to pay $250 to a sponsor for that kind of support on a regular basis. In fact I think that type of back and forth you would actually see your conversions grow as you could work with the sponsor in order to hone your traffic to something more productive and it sounds like they would be open to suggestions on how they could improve their conversion process...
However if the difference were actually 25% and scaled linearly, that would be a different story.

A for me. I hate when companies have bad support. $250 is not a big difference enough for me to get all frustrated.

What do you guys use "support" for anyway? Other than some payment issues, I can count the number of times I needed support on one hand...

Obviously we would all love to be treated well and appreciated, but if the tools available etc. are equal, I don't require anything more than a check. I can make my own banners. Even with programs and sites where I am one of the bigger affiliates, I rarely ever hear from them other than their regular e-mail blasts. I am just another cog in the wheel to them and I don't ask much of them.

I'm the type of affiliate who rarely needs any support unless there is a missing check or such so with a 25% difference I'd probably favor Company B. However I would be unlikely to completely drop company A if I were ever promoting them. I would keep them in the rotation somewhere. They are pleasant to deal with and who knows maybe something will happen to company B's conversions or perhaps Company A's conversions might improve.
I was just thinking about something related to this today. To what extent will I stay with a company because I like them and their positions on industry matters over another company? After considering it it's somewhere around 30% where I would start to jump ship although I would be unlikely to ever fully dump them unless the conversions were horrible (like off by 90%). FWIW there is a sponsor like this. They have great positions on industry matters. They seem very honest and the owner seems like a great person. But they just don't convert (over 50% off). What can I do? It's just business; although there still is some loyalty to an extent. |

![]() ![]() ![]() Anyways, let's take your situation and say you did have a payment issue. You wanted to switch from Check to Paypal. Sponsor A does this the minute you contact them. Sponsor B does this three weeks later after the period has already ended. Yeah, you still get your money, but after the headache of waiting and waiting and waiting. Who do you tend to stick with at that point? Just brush it off and keep going with Company B hoping you don't have to ask them for anything again? These are all just hypothetical questions of course. Not every company can be like DG and give you all of the benefits of company A & B. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I'd go with sponsor B
Cash is king. Sometimes good programs have a tons of affs. If I'm making more $$ month after month. I dont care about the 2 week reply. Since you put 250.00 difference thats 3k for being patient. Also if I'm making 1k a month with a program I'll get the banner made myself.

Everyone once in a blue moon I might ask a program to make some custom banners, but other than that, I can handle everything else. I don't need "program manager" fluff to convince me to join and send traffic your way.
Give me decent content, a promo pass to some sites i'm interested in promoting and maybe get me some custom banners every once in awhile and i'm happy and you've got traffic coming your way for years. |
