New TV time - best 3D LED?
My old 61" Sammy DLP died on the weekend... well the color wheel went and I decided a while ago I'm not spending any more money on it as I've been wanting to get a new set for a while and this was the excuse I needed.
Had a look at the Samsung Series 8 and it looked very sexy but then I was looking at a Sony model (HX820 i think it was) and it seemed to have better picture quality and the 3D seemed much better. Hard to tell whether that is down to not being setup properly or not. I also saw flickering in the Samsung 3D glasses and the sales guy was quick to blame the flouro lights. The Sony ones had no flicker and the 3D looked much more vivid and... um... 3 dimensional.

i love samsung when it comes to tvs, best picture for your money spent imo. 3d i think though isn't that big a deal or needed, and is just a price pump. i'd just find a sick samsung led

The thing that puts me off about the Sony's is how bad they are at playing most video formats from USB though.

3DTV. Really? That's necessary? A big selling point for me is no 3D - but I get headaches, nausea, and vertigo when I watch 3D. Just like I did in the 70's, the 80's and the 90's when 3D was making its innumerable comebacks.
Its the glasses what do it. Hold out for a 3D television that doesn't need glasses. |

I need a new TV now though, plus I don't like buying new technology as soon as it's released... not to mention in Australia we always get shit like that later.

look up the model number you are interested in on avsforum. They have an official thread for every current model out there. It takes a while to go through the threads because they are so huge, but if the set has issues it will be posted there over and over again.
Wish I would have checked there before buying my LG LED. It has issues accepting video from my PC that makes it almost unusable for what I wanted to do with it.

My grand plan was to eliminate both the HDMI switcher and Optical switcher from my AV setup by using the HDMI inputs on the TV and the one optical out on the TV to my receiver. Apparently this will cause a delay on the audio. I fucking hate having to get up to physically switch the optical as I never managed to find a remote controlled version. Might end up getting a newer receiver.

I have the Samsung 8000 series 55inch, it's a gorgeous TV with rich blacks and insanely bright colors. I used a Samsung wall mount which makes it as flush to the wall as possible and painted the wall behind it black.
![]() It looks like a picture frame on my wall. I do have one complaint though, and I think it's due to the ultra thin bezel design. Sometimes on dark scenes, like opening credits you can see a tiny bit of light in the corners! I think if you have a dark room a Panasonic plasma will probably offer the most natural colors, but as far as aesthetics you can't beat the new Samsung LEDs. edit: oh and if you have the means, you can try to find a Pioneer Elite KURO plasma. A buddy of mine has one that he paid like $10k for 2-3 years ago, the picture is the best I've ever seen. Absolutely phenomenal. I just can't justify paying that sorta money for a TV.

If 3D is really important to you I would consider holding on for another 12 - 18 months.
The first glasses free 3D TV (55") comes out in December. O.K. it will cost a few thousand dollars but in another 18 months all the companies will have them out and prices will plummet. |

I have a 46inch Sony Bravia LED EX 600 or something, bought it last year for my formal living room and it is hands down the best TV I have ever owned. Unfortunately we use our less formal living room for watching TV, we put a 60 inch LG plasma in there, so the Sony hardly gets used and every day I walk past it, I get more and more annoyed. I'd defo check out the Sony Bravia range if you are looking for a kick ass LED.

I'm getting this TV for Christmas: Sharp AQUOS LC-70LE734U 70" 240HZ LED-LCD TV I've seen it in my local Costco and I'm like a moth to flame everytime I pass by
![]() ![]() I've had my current flat screen for 4 years and the colors will go off a bit after it's been on a while. After getting a 40" Sony LED that I use as a second work monitor I'm never going back to pure LCD or Plasma! |

I would go for a plasma over an LCD. A friend bought a very well reviewed Samsung smart TV led LCD this week and my 3 year old Panasonic plasma has much better picture quality.

Think I'll go with the Samsung 55D7000. The D8000 doesn't seem worth the extra cash to me for the couple of small additions it has over it.

3DTV. ROFL. Just buy the cheapest, biggest monitor at WalMart.
It will instantly elliminate all of your HDMI, wire-switching talk - and, when technology advances - there may just be 3D TV where you don't have to buy glasses. If you ubuy a "3D" television and need special special glasses to watch it - you're an idiot; or rich. I'm not boroke, but I'm not paying for a TV that makes me buy shit just so I can get a headache. Honestly? I returned my PVR. Why? Because - compared to BluRay - the picture quality is a joke. Its shit. Tons of artifacts - looks like a bad jpeg from 1999. I figure that for the $50 I spent on the PVR and The Movie Network per month, I could just rent the discs. I was right. I rent a movie, pop into my PS3, it looks Godly. Roger's hi-def cable is about as attractive as my bag sweat. And I got WAY off topic... |

I was looking at the 8000 series Samsung but ended up getting a 55" LED Sony - the NX810.
I liked the Samsung 3D better than Sony but the price for the Sony was a lot better. I just bought the 3D glasses a few months ago finally and I've watched two, maybe three movies with 3D. Tried out Gran Turismo on 3D as well as Black Ops, neither of which looked like they had as much 3D/depth as the movies. After watching a movie, I was glad to get those glasses off too. The Sony glasses are not comfortable at all and basically pinch your temples. Regardless, my TV looks amazing and I didn't buy it for the 3D alone. My overall favorite 3D was the Panosonic Plasma's which are always rated high. I choose LED because of constant burn in issues and amount of light in my living room.

Actually, you DO want a 3D TV, but not for the 3D-ness. Instead, you want it for the super high refresh rate.

Everything I have been reading lately suggests passive 3d glasses are a better experience. You lose resolution but dont have to mess with the heavy battery powered glasses. Apparently the active glasses are so uncomfortable that it ruins the whole experience.

If you're that concerned with 3D, wait till next year and see what comes out then. Prices are dropping, glasses are getting lighter and more comfortable and quality is improving immensely.

Most of the time, that fucks up the picture with TV's trying to duplicate and insert frames. Cable/Satellite is 60hz, movies are 24, not sure on video games off hand or what they CAN run at. Look up some av forums and most users talk about turning off the increased frame rate settings. I have 240 on my Sony and it's never on and looks just fine.
