Is Sharp brand worth shit? My favorites are LG and SAMSUNG... I don't like Vizio and I don't think Sharp is too great... right?

My plasma is made of heavy material, metal backing, etc. It does get hot, but even still it's been in FL heat 90 degree rooms before running even with a still image burning into the screen for hours when it got left on, too hot to touch and it still didn't burn anything out or get screwed up. Other LCD/LED's I've seen are all plastic and a few friends with LCD's have had failures and needed sometimes multiple replacements. Probably just a case by case basis thing though.

Sharp is a good brand as well. They used to make the panels for Sony for years and supply the panels for lots of other brands.

Their 70 and 80 inch TVs look great and are some of the biggest you can get for a reasonable price.

They all have some drawbacks in certain areas but unless you are really anal I don't think you would be disappointed with any of the major brands. It mostly comes down to what size and what features you want (Internet enabled? passive 3D or active? etc.)

I also recommend Sharp Aquos. They are good tvs at a reasonable price. I have a 52" LCD and I love the picture on it. Brandsmart in South Florida has the best prices on electronics and does a huge business selling flat screen tvs to the local and overseas markets.

Look for prices online from other brick and mortar stores like cleveland plasma (they have lcd too). Then, find a store in your local area that will price match. That's what I did and I saved a few hundred bucks when I bought my samsung plasma from BestBuy. Try to do that and purchase from a local shop in case you need to return it. If there is a problem you will get whacked with shipping charges and have to wait longer to get a working tv.

I know I can't post links to other forums here but do a search for audio/visual forums and see what experiences other people have had with the model you are interested in.

I prefer plasma, but that's my preference. I did a lot of research when I bought mine (a couple of years ago) and samsung was the tv to buy at that time. Then, samsung and panasonic were the top dogs. Just make sure you do as much research as you can. I did a lot before I bought mine and I'm very happy with it. It's a big purchase (spending a few grand on a tv). I expect to get 10 years out of mine, at least, it better fucking last that long considering the price.

Good luck with your purchase. I hope you get a good deal and are happy with your purchase. It's a good investment, especially if you like to watch a lot of movies.

Be sure to let us know how you make out.

my wall unit fits the 55" and a year ago PC Richard was running a special for a 55" Samsung LED and a 36" Samsung LCD together for around 2k and we were just moving into a new place so it made sense, but the 46" LED does have a crisper picture.

Watching Handball Youtube videos on the TV is amazing.

That is an excellent idea... do you know if major B&M retailers will match internet prices? http://www.buy.com/pr/product.aspx?s...lerid=12964720 I thought $2200 was pretty good for a 65" LG 120hz 3d LED television ...

Does 3d matter? I don't care.. If I could get the same television 10% cheaper without it, that'd be great. I think I'd get the best price just buying whatever is popular and more available, which may be wrong?

Is it worth it looking for a 240hz instead of a 120hz? They had a 64" rear projection (not even dlp just an old projection) and didn't know how terrible the picture is

The television IS going over a fire place but a rarely used one.. The mantle is built real well but the heat would still go up and around it so I was thinking maybe install some fans blowing air downward??

Also I decided to put the vcr/dvd/blu ray and all of that in a closet 25' away to keep them out of sight and I wanted to know if there is a way to do that wirelessly now

Ah
And
My grandmother wants netflix built into the tv .. do they all pretty much have that capability? Being able to use web based content delivery services like netflix and hulu? I don't care if it needs an ethernet connection or is wireless ..

Anyone know how thick the 80" DLP tvs are?
http://www.buy.com/prod/mitsubishi-c...223042550.html

DLP would work if we could mount it on a wall and it's not more than 12" thick .. And she could get an 80 inch instead of a 65 for the same money

They have a 24x24 room they added on, kind of a living room in the back of the house.. a set of french doors leading to the patio, a set of french doors leading to the back yard deck and another leading to the street outside (with a set of steps and small porch)

The only wall without french doors has a what 8x15 closet and a small bathroom in the corner PLUS a 10' wide doorway into the house

The fireplace is in the corner opposite the bathroom

The french doors leading to the street are going away now

For years the only place for the tv was on the wall with the closet/bathroom/doorway or in only free corner.. either place made it look stupid (to me)

I do not see a place in the whole room where a television makes sense other than above that fireplace

As an aside, how big of a concern is using the fireplace really going to be? It's natural gas but they like to burn logs... The dust from that is fine and gets into everything.. And I know the heat can't possibly be good for the television screen or internal components

How do you make a fireplace that doesn't radiate any heat into the room? They just build this room ten years ago, and they swear it has a heat box around it.. Maybe I could put some fireplace doors on that keep heat from coming into the room??

What about some fans mounted under the mantle blowing air downward?? I could pull the wood off of the underside and mount some fans into the pieces where they wouldn't show and could duct air in .. . Or I guess I could even use an air pump .. Or would it be better to mount fans in the ceiling blowing air down?? ? That might be easier. . There is a huge celing fan in the middle of the room - maybe that would solve the heat issue if I made it blow upward?

Maybe I could get away with putting another ceiling fan above the tv.. would sure look stupid, though, and the tv is going to be almost at the ceiling anyway so that really won't work

She really doesn't care how much it costs, but she's very cheap, if that makes sense

I love my panasonic plasma, it's heavier and not as efficient but nothing beats the colors of a plasma, not lcd, led, nothing.

The only drawback is the reflection in a bright room but I hear the newer models have great anti glare.

The heaviness and not being efficient killed it for this application.. A plasma this size would probably rip the walls down.. And probably would use more electricity than we'd save, you know??

Personally I wish they'd make a big screen CRT
Nothing is like a CRT, to me

I can see that everything else IS superior to it (I have 20/20) but something about watching my old programs will never be the same on anything not crt

Plasma tvs suck. It's like watching tv through a glass window rather than seeing a crisp picture right on the surface of the tv like with an LCD.

think about that

That's what my main TV is. I got it at H.H. Gregg, and it was in stock. Magnolia also sells them -- that's the Best Buy stores with the "extra" stuff in 'em. We only paid $4000, but the price now is $4,499 in the store.

NOW she is dead set on finding a 70"
She doesn't want the 65" LG for 2200
She wants the Aquos 70" she saw at sams

But she has a home protection plan that covers appliances/electronics from sears.. it's 1000 a year and they give her a new central air unit, stoves, tvs, furnaces, free in home service. It is ridiculously good, they don't do it any more I guess.

So if she buys from Sears it's pretty much like a lifetime warranty. And when her tvs wear out they end up having to give her a much better one. Like this 64" projection she has- when it goes BLAM she'll probably get a DLP free

SAMS Has the 70" Aquos LC-70LE733U for $2797 .. SEARS has the LC 70LE732U for $2799 and the LC70LE632U for $2499 - now what the hell is the damned difference supposed to be???

As an aside- I think that fourth color bullshit is bullshit. The picture on the 70" I saw at sams on the 70 "240hz" wasn't great. I even caught it not being able to keep up with something that moved fast on a commercial ( I think )

Samsung and LG are ABSOLUTELY without question the best pictures out there

Buy an LG or Samsung from a chain like Best buy or Futureshop, but don't buy the extended warranty, Monster cable, or any of that other crap. The TV is discounted but everything else has severe mark-ups, and Monster cables are a scam.

Happy Shopping!

Apparently these two are 120hz and cost about the same, so I guess avoid these

Does anyone know if there are any HUGE differences in these three?

Built in WIFI on televsions, does that mean they have a browser? If it won't work with netflix she'll be real real upset

The second one adds their quattron quad pixel technology. Debatable whether that is a benefit or not.

The third one also adds 3D.

They all support Netflix.

I think they all three have the quad pixel thing (I would actually rather get one WITHOUT it.. because I think it's bullshit considering that everything is made in 3 colors anyway and they're just trying to add it in after processing.. I also doubt the new standard will become RGBY .. lol)

I didn't notice the first two ain't 3D though ... good looking out .. I don't know what a tv being "3D" really means .... I know some had a coating, some required glasses, etc
