My neighbor's dog is the worst barker I have ever heard. And I've heard a few. When he is let out he barks at anything that moves. Super loud bark.

He's a big bulldog. One of the worst and loudest barkers.

The neighbors are good people tho. They didnt mean or plan to have such a barker and they put him in if I walk around that side as he barks like nuts then. Actually he hears me on the other side of the house and barks.

So I live with it. Luckily for me they do put him in when I am out there and/or after he starts barking for a min or two. It could be worse. They could leave him out.

Agreed there is nothing to drive a neighbor insane tho than a constant/never ending barking dog. I realize the op said he doesnt leave his out constantly and I commend you for that.

So I am lucky. It is the guys who leave em out all day to bark or who do not bring him in when he barks that are the real problem and luckily they are few and far between as most folks do in fact get it.

So (sadly for the the dog) it's never out more than 5 mins at a time unless they are outside with him. At which he doesnt bark hardly at all.

I went over to try to pet it a couple times when they were outside on the theory that we could be friends. But he is having none of that. He doesnt bark then but he physically shys away.

Could be because they tie him to a leash. But that has to be done.

Prob developed the barking at anything that moves at the family's previous location from being tied outside for long periods.

Ditto. The old man KNEW what he was doing. He needs a load of concrete dumped on his driveway, or a molotov thrown through his front window...twice.

Once had a neighbor on the other side who left the dog inside when they left which is normally good. This dog did nothing but bark for 2-3 hours constant so LOUD I could hear it 100 feet away through their windows and my windows up and music on.

2-3 hours of constant SUPER LOUD INSENSED barking everytime they left him alone and only when they left him alone.

I recorded it and went over one day. LOL We were fairly good friends but I dont think they appreciated that BUT you can only handle so much. I was cool. i just played it for them.

They got rid of the dog and moved a while later. Not cause of me. I just got lucky that they had to move. They had a new dog in there every few months it seemed. Most were not a prob. Some big dogs are f'n loud tho man.

You could hear this dog barking through closed house walls at least 50 yards radius clearly while inside your home. This affected several other homes. That was also a big husky or golden lab mix. Altho labs are usually the best dogs and seldom bark. Big dog tho.

hate to be a dick but.. this is all your fault.. you need to go over and apologize for your dogs.

Dog owners almost never admit their dogs are wrong.

Do you think this old man just did this out of the blue ? or do you think it sounds much more reasonable that every time he walks by your fence your dogs go apeshit so he decided to rile them up. ? Dogs that do that shit are annoying as all fuck. I am not talking about dogs that bark all day those are even more annoying but i am talking about dogs that go apeshit when you walk by.

Ever walked in a parking lot between 2 cars when all of a sudden a dog in a car goes apeshit and lunges at the window ? well imagine that is your neighbour, everytime he goes outside to water his lawn or take a stroll he is greeted by annoying dogs barking at him..

Your dog should be trained to bark at a THREAT , if he isn't then your dog is badly trained and you need to train him better.

Did you ever take your dogs over to meet your neighbour ?

Imagine everytime you went for a stroll in your backyard the kids next door waited for you to get near the fence then started screaming " THIEF , BURGLAR, RAPIST" over and over for 10 minutes. That is essentially what your dog is doing.

I will tell you a true story almost exactly like your but in reverse. I walk my kids to school , everyday we pass by a house with a big dog, every day the dog runs out and barks like crazy, runs right up to the kids like he is about to attack then stops. The dog is a great dog but he scares the shit out of the kids. Another parent was walking with me one time and did exactly what your neighbour did. he ran at the dog and waved his arms , trying to antagonize the dog. The dog went apeshit barking and the owner came out and saw him doing this. The owner was a bit ashamed their dog was doing this and she introduced the dog to the kids and the dog doesn't go apeshit when we pass by now. problem solved

Read the thread again (or don't). I mention that I have never seen my dog like this before. The thought also crossed my mind that the old man has done this before in the past. I also say that they aren't staying outside for prolonged periods of time - only when they go for walks or we take them somewhere.

I get it though, in fact, there are a few dogs in the immediate surrounding houses that bark all the time, all hours of the day. As said before, mine don't bark unless someone is on the property that shouldn't be there or in this case, they thought there was a threat.

I only read to here and already well said.

Not saying the op is at fault or not. But peace and quiet should get the highest leanings of justice.

The dog next door is out now here now. I just heard him bark a couple times. When I walk outside on the other side of the house at least 100 feet (as the crow flies) away it will start barking. It barks at things it hears.

I can no longer walk out of site, out my own front door.

It is annoying as fuck and thank you for having the balls to say so Smokey.

I love dogs and I am willing to realize there is a tradeoff. I have a cat that runs thru your yard. You have a dog that barks a lil. We can live together and in fact as you can see I am living with it now. Last 1 1/2 years.

My prev neighbor was an older couple with no pets so I got spolied. 25 years of peace until this neighbor moved "Chopper" in.

What cartoon was that? That was a good one with Chopper the Bulldog.

Now back to reading the rest Smokey. I like what I hear.

You all make it sound like the old man is nuts. BS. He is annoyed at being barked at after 83 years every time he moves a lil.

Build a fence on that side on your dime for the old man. Money takes care of everything.

This is a cool neighbor (my current one where the dog used to bark ) My last cat Lucky would piss in his kid's sandbox. He told me about it.

But what could I do. Lucky was an outdoor cat for 10 years prev. Plus he had 8 years seniority over the neighbor and earned the right to run outdoors and always ran in that yard as the prev neighbor loved him. I even tried an outdoor litterbox. Which he seen I was making an effort.

One day he builds a fence around the sandbox which also allowed a roof over the sandbox. Two birds.. Cool guy and totally won my respect. Money takes care of everything.

I would have offered to pay but he just did it. And we're still friends. He could have been a dick or dealt with it. Nothing I could do. He dealt with it.

Maybe ask the old man to go halfs on a fence.

Nice looking dog

Listen I am just venting here about my own stuff. Maybe the man is crazy. Only you know the deal. Maybe he had runins with other dogs (he is 83) and now all dogs are enemies.

Running around with a mask is a lil nutty for sure. lol

Best wishes anyhow.

He doesnt look like a barker to me.

There is a fence. He was taunting them through the fence.

He apologized and knew he shouldn't have been doing that. There could be a number of reasons why he even did it in the first place, I've tried to think of all types of scenarios.

I've got 6 on the house. Real ones, not fake. Put up incidentally, AFTER my pug was stolen from my backyard.

We live on a corner and the street is a fairly busy cut through. Twice since I put them up have they caught car wrecks. In one case BOTH drivers were drunk and the cops couldn't get a straight story out of either of them and spotted the cameras and asked to see them. I was happy to help.

I also caught the chick across the street beating on her boyfriend and then calling the cops on him. They arrived, he disputed what she had to say and pointed to my camera. They wanted to see the footage and since I hate that fucking bitch (I have a camera on her house for a reason) I gave let them check it out and made a copy. The dude ended up being released and she did a few weeks. I had a tired slashed shortly after...and now there's a cam on the garage.

Regardless the old guy has a legal right to be wearing a mask in his yard, whereas no one should have to listen to other peoples animals. My guess is he listens to your dogs all day while you are gone and when you get home they shut up and he wanted you to hear what he has to listen to all day. Every response is you making excuses for your dogs behavior, you sound like a shitty neighbor.

you need to teach them ( dogs ) that threats are in your yard not next door.

dont think you would appreciate it if your neighbours house alarm went off everytime you walked in your own backyard. infact i bet if it did you might start setting it off on purpose to let them know their alarm is too sensitive..

if i have misjudged your dog , then my bad.. i just see this type of dog often so i am jumping to the obvious conclusion.. every dog is different..

When i had dogs like yours , i tended to side with my dogs also because they are like your children..

My folks ended up putting cameras up around one of their old houses in California. Their neighborhood had those community mailbox/station type things. One year, someone decided to break into it and steal tax returns - it kept happening until my parents put up a sign that said, "Smile, you're on camera". Someone also stole the spare tire from under his truck.

It's not such a bad idea. Here in Texas, a lot of houses have their driveways in the back, rather than the front. I can't hear or see anything back there unless I go out there - I hate it.

If you were my neighbor I would turn my speakers out the window, find a good Ozzy tune like "War Pigs", crank the volume, set repeat and leave for the day.

Of course he has that right. Every post isn't making up an excuse and of course there are 2 sides of the story.

Just so you know, there is someone always at my house. I'm either working from my home office or my wife is home. They are never outside when we're gone and as said before, they do not normally bark out of control.

It's easy to just think the dogs are shit heads and I'm an irresponsible owner, and that's fine. If my dogs were in fact bugging him with barking or ANYTHING for that matter, at least come over and knock on my door or talk to me when I wave or say hello.

You sound like a decent dude. To really solve this problem:

Invite the old man over. You and the dog go over (prearranged) and bring your new friend over an into your house. He sits and maybe pets the dog.

Then you go over to his house and he lets you and doggie in (maybe just the doorway for doggie but so that he can see you and maybe the man pets him) and he smells a lil in the door way. You two shoot the bull for 10 mins. He gives doggie a treat better than you give him. He walks you both home. More bull shooting. Another dog biscuit.

What do you think dog owners? I know that is a bit uncomfy for neighbors to do but the dog has to see the neighbor as family. Then everytime he barks the neighbor goes up to him. "Hi ya Fido here's a dog biscuit". Pet pet.

Might work and really easy if the neighbors are already fairly close.

Now good luck. I have to get out of this thread.

Yeah it would prob work even for my bulldog yet will prob never happen because I have to approach the owner to get it rolling and that is a bit awkward as we are not super close.

It is all psychology, both human and dog.

It is really up to the dog owner to intiate. If the neighbor goes up he doesnt know what to expect and also admits it is a problem and maybe he would rather not admit a problem.

But if the dog owner suddenly comes up and says, "hey Bud I noticed my dog is barking at you, cmon in a while and have one of wifey's brownies and a beer with Duke."

There ya go.. it is up to the owner.

I earned that for spending four hours here. It was fun tho. Fun at the momemt anyhow.

As usual we solved absolutely nothing and the dogs will keep barking and your neighbors will continue to wear Donald Duck masks to scare your dog.

A mask is pretty funny tho Kudos to the ole guy. And to that f'n barking Duke and to the commendable OP who is trying to do the right thing.

Bark, Bark! SHUT UP!!!! Ever holler that out the window? That never works out.

I earned that for spending four hours here. It was fun tho. Fun at the momemt anyhow.

As usual we solved absolutely nothing and the dogs will keep barking and your neighbors will continue to wear Donald Duck masks to scare your dog.

What a wild and crazy world. A mask is pretty funny tho Kudos to the ole guy. And to Duke and to the OP.

Go and sin no more.
Also, I can't help but wonder if this was a mask he had laying around already or if he actually went out of his way to buy one for this specific purpose.

And, does he have it laying on a table by his back door so that he can put it on quickly and run over to your fence every time you let your dogs out?

Any way you look at it, the whole thing is completely bizarre.

If the dogs go apeshit when you go near the fence, then don't go near the fence. You don't try to incite them.

so you expect the old man to never go outside ? hogwash. he has the right to go anywhere in his yard without being harassed.

let me ask you a question. if the neighbour had kids and every time you walked near your fence they started screaming at you , you think the solution is don't go near your own fence in your own yard ?

As tempting as it is to take the side of someone with a barking dog anywhere near them, the older man had no reason or right to jump around screaming with a mask on rattling the fence. If it IS bothering him, he should know damned well that what he was doing would just make it worse.

1. He is very stupid and thinks that will make the dog stop barking
2. He is bored and thinks it is cute and funny to terrorize animals
3. He is trying to make your animals more aggressive to video or to authorities

I have had to put up with barking dogs at the last three places I've lived, including this one. The difference here is that the barking dogs live here with my landowners and so I can ask them to put bark collars on the dogs. I hardly ever hear barking... sometimes they take the collars off for a day to let the dogs "have a break". I understand that, and they are great people who have treated me well, so I can't very well whine about that one day every week or so. I love the people I rent from, and they are nothing but respectful and helpful.. But even this one day is enough to make me want to move.

Something about a barking dog makes my skin crawl. It goes through my chest like a gunshot. You know, that feeling of electricity in your chest and gut you might get when you know you might be about to die? A dog barks and I feel that. I am a VERY tolerant person. You can play music, rev engines, empty dumpsters, whatever the fuck it is .. even if I am asleep .. but a god damned fucking barking fucking dog pisses me the fuck off so god damned fast and so damned thoroughly that I could literally do some very bad things.

At the place before this the owners were old and dying of cancer .. so I could not get rid of the animals or bother them too much about it without feeling horrible about it. Of course the fucking dogs barked right at my bedroom window 15' away all of the damned time.

At the place before that I came very close to things I will not even bother writing about. That guy let his dog bark right under my bedroom window day and night for THREE YEARS. I tried everything. I asked him nicely. I went over drunk and screaming. I pointed a at him. I called animal control three times. I called local police. I called the county sheriff. This garbage said he "had a right to have a dog, and dogs are going to bark". I told him that I had a "right to peaceful enjoyment and any true right never interferes with the rights of another person". The ignorant bastard just thought it was the most natural thing in the world.

24/7 his loud extremely loud and stupid looking dog would bark. "Attention barking". If a squirrel jumped onto a wire a block away the dog barked. Many times the dog would bark and bark until it woke me up and then it would stop once it knew someone was awake near by. If I was perfectly still. Then it would bark if I moved.

It didn't end there. It would HOWL so loud I thought the world ended. Then it would do this "braying" thing that LITERALLY sounded like a man being tortured. If any of you have ever heard that happening you know how blood curtling it is.

What is even worse was I felt sorry for his dog.. even while it was making my life miserable. The poor dog was running around outside when it was -8F outside. The dog was outside when we had a severe thunderstorm with 75mph winds and near golf ball hail while they sat in their kitchen. It was just sick.

I would then and to this day will do anything I possibly can to legally cause harm to this guy.. The only one reason I did not do things to him or get rid of his animal is that he has three little children. The little bastards tore our fence to hell and compete with the dog for noise making - but they are children - and I will be damned if I was going to hurt their dog or their father.. But it was damned difficult at times not doing so. I never did anything to deserve what he did to me and once his children are raised, and time wears on a little, I am going to be in this mans life in a BIG way. He owes me three years of suffering.. and he's going to pay with ten.

This man is the only ONE person on earth I carry a grudge against. The ONE person I want to make even with. After all of the shit I've been through, this clown is the one I can't let go.

[/vent]

You can talk about my mother, curse at me, piss on my lawn - just about anything - without making me too terribly upset. I am pretty damned easy going. The two things on this PLANET I can not fucking STAND are

1. Someone fooling with my money
2. A barking dog

I understand that you are not like that motherfucker was.. But definitely try to understand how horrible it is having barking dogs anywhere near someone who does not own one. It is like nails on a chalk board x10.

If that clown is provoking your animals for no reason, he's just making the whole neighborhood miserable by causing them to become more aggressive and loud. No one is going to know that this old man caused them to do it, they're going to know that your dogs are a horrible nuisance. Bad blood is never good - even with clean cut white people in an upscale neighborhood.

You definitely should put a stop to this guy agitating your animals, and the barking, soon.

As an aside- you're right to be concerned about the animals breaking free and harming someone. Pretty much no matter what HE did - it is on you to be sure that your fencing and whatever else precludes the animals from being physically capable of escaping. Due to local ordinances or community bylaws, there may be no fencing available which will accomplish this.

The solution is sturdy fencing along with a secure leash that will not snap or break. At least then you will look better if you're even in court and I am guessing but I would believe that the law would allow more leighway in terms of owner liability when the owner did make every reasonable effort to properly secure the animal.

No, no, no. Fuck the old asshole. If someone did that to my dogs, I'd just start throwing them over the fence. Biggest one goes first.

What you should do is this:

Put on a mask, sneak up to his window when he's asleep, shake your fist and make threatening noises. Unless he's heavily medicated he'll get up - for about 5 seconds.

Enjoy the peace and quiet until the authorities find his un-missed, family-less, maggot-riddled, stinking loner corpse six weeks later. And when the hot, young newlyweds buy his house, move in, and get comfortable in the neighbourhood; fuck the naive, easily-impressed bride. In the ass. With your fist.
