Like the guy above, I bougth one when porn was so easy and now I wish I had the cash. I wear it about twice a year.
If you take your rolex to the right place. It is probably worth what you paid for it, if not more. The daytona for instance. 4-5 years ago you can buy one new or used for around the 8-9k mark. Now you cannot get one in good condition, again used or new. For less then 11k. Also, anything that is gold has gone up in value quite a bit just because of the price of gold in general. If you have a white gold, yellow gold or rose gold watch. Its worth more then you paid for it most likely. Rolex is one of the top watches that holds its value. This is fact, not opinion. A friend of mine got an Explorer II I believe when he graduated college. A guy at a watch store in the diamond district would have given him 4k cash or 5k trade for it and his watch is stainless.

If you aren't a watch person. This is a typical way of thinking and i assume your success doesnt afford you the luxury of nice watches. If you are into watches. You can easily tell someones success by their watch. Maybe not all successful people wear nice watches, but the ones who do, you can tell.

If you don't wear your Rolex all the time it's best to store it on an automatic winder.

Thanks it took me a lot of work to earn it and now out of all my friends who got theirs at the same time have had to sell them because the mortgage business crashed. My wife doesn't want one she is happy with her stainless Skagens she has.
Here is my watch on my trusty watch winder mentioned earlier. I try to wear my Rolex as much as possible but occasionally have to turn it around when in different areas so a crooked dude don't get rolled for my Roly.

This is actually the cheapest watch you can buy. Few will worth more few years after you bought them...

You spend 200 on any watch and 3 years after it's worth next to nothing... You invest 10k on a Rolex and few years later, it's worth 12-13k if you took good care of it... WCS it's still worth 10k

Just my
Nice watches Michael

I bought a two-tone submariner after I got married in September.

Always a huge fan and wanted one for quite a while

Only problem is the gold is a huge magnet for scratches. got a pretty big one the other day when I was coming out of my office, the lock on the door hit it and got the gold on the band

no and never will...

I would rather consider Longiness, Breitling or Vacheron Constantin
but I don't wear watches at all since I have my cell phone with me...

A Rolex one ? That's not such a problem (depending on the scratch depth of course) Rolex gold is premium quality and your dealer can buff it back to new

But it's true gold is a softer metal so it scratches easier than stainless... My Yachtmaster have a very minor scratches that I'll get buffed at my next service

When I got mine cellphones weren't as prevalent, now I find I rarely wear mine because I already have the time on my phone along with a lot of other functionality.
Interesting read.

I would have thought on something as high end as a Rolex that would not be the case. I admit looking at them from time to time, in regards to purchase, but many of those high end watches have those metal wrist bands. I do not like those, and haven't since I was a kid. They pull the hair on my arm.

Given the choice, I prefer a nice quality leather wristband, and a large face watch.

I bought mine in 07 or 08. It was retail 22k everywhere I looked and i paid 17.5k. The most I was offered was a private party deal of 12k. I think I can get it for 16k or so on most sites right now.

The price of gold has more then doubled since I bought it.

Now it is nice that I can get 12k since if it was anything else it would be worth zero.

I'm not a watch guy at all, its just a couple of years ago I finally decided under pressure to get a watch again.

Is the gold rolexes 100% gold (ie you don't need to take them off in the airport for the metal detectors) ? And are they water proof?

I could see myself wearing a watch I can't wear in a pool or the shower... helps keeping it clean and you always know the time.. same way I got a speciel credit card I punched a whole in to attach to the inside of the linnen in my shorts if I go to the beach or water theme parks so I can always buy shit when I want to...

Just need a waterproof phone and I will be good to go

Regardless of what he is now, if he can get a real Rolex for $20 a month, then I think he may well end up being a successful person.

Even stainless Rolexes (watches) often won't set off a metal detector. The case is thick ass stainless which is non magentic.

Mine is a gold Presidential Day/Date. They go for more 'pre-owned' now than what I paid for it new, so I can't say it was a poor investment. Gold prices skyrocketing also certainly hasn't hurt the resale value on 18K gold Rolex watches. I've never felt the band pull at hairs on my arm. It also definitely brings a different level of service from retail salespeople or a restaurant maître d' if that's what you are looking for - but it can't do 99.999% of what my iPhone can do and my iPhone keeps time better as well.

Just need a waterproof phone and I will be good to go
Hello Due,

The gold is 100% solid, and no you don't need to take them out at airports, and YES they are waterproof.. Can't tell about the YM cause I have the sub with me ATM, which is good to 1000 Ft below.. I think the YM is a bit less (maybe down to 300ft at least), so you can jump in the pool no problem. I never remove my watch to swim...

Say Hi to the Darling

I hope one day I am making enough money to be able to afford one of these. I couldn't justify spending this on a watch as much as I'd like one unless I was making 100k a year. Which I clearly am not doing. I wish tho! I figured it is probably a safer bet to save my money and wait for the right time versus settling for a Tag or a watch under $2k when I know eventually I will still have the want for a Rolex....

A $5-million watch, the world's most expensive, unveiled at show

By W.J. Hennigan

March 8, 2012, 10:40 a.m.

The world?s most expensive wrist watch, encrusted with 1,282 diamonds, was unveiled by Swiss watchmaker Hublot, according to a report by AFP.

The price? $5 million.

The white-gold watch was revealed this week at the world's biggest watch show, Baselworld Watch and Jewellery Show in Basel, Switzerland.

According to the AFP report, it took 17 people at Hublot 14 months to set the more than 140 carats of diamonds on the watch.

Jean-Claude Biver, president of the watch company, told AFP that it would be difficult to make a more expensive watch "because the surface of the watch is limited."

A quick perusal of Hublot?s website reveals that the company takes pride in over-the-top designs. The company has an entire section reserved for ?World Firsts.?

Biver also said that several people have expressed interest in acquiring it. He didn?t provide details.

SO.....the verdict of the story is I opted to wait for the rolex. Unless I'm making enough side cash each month to pay in full then I don't deserve to own one. Not worth breaking the bank to be watch poor....hahahahaha
