My only problems with those Mac people is that most of them barely know how to turn on a computer, yet they know better than you. In the graphics field, I kind of feel sorry for my mac counterparts. I keep upgrading my system with the latest hardware, but they're always stuck with that same Mac they've had for 5 years because it was "so expensive".

Most people you know are extremely poor?

I am not an apple fan boy , I do however use Macs , but I also use windows.. for some things I prefer OSX some things prefer Windows.. that said

how expensive are these machines for a professional user?

Quote:
27-inch: 3.1GHz

3.1GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
2560 x 1440 resolution
4GB (two 2GB) memory
1TB hard drive1
AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 1GB

In Stock
Free Shipping
$1,999.00
this is the standard 27inch iMac, it costs $2k

If i would have to buy a new one once a year it translates to a cost of $5 a day

I understand poor people can not spend $5 a day on computing , but your average professional user ( anyone with a job ) should be able to afford this IMHO

Anyone remember when hardware vendors use to ship their own OS? These are true computing companies.

You do know that you can get the same specs with a PC for close to HALF that price right?

pretty sure I can afford a few mac's what I DON'T have is the time to deal with changing platforms... thing is the 'mac elite' don't really understand working a minimum of 16 hours a day, 5-7 days a week because that would cut into your 'mac community time'

as soon as i can see a clear advantage, I will switch. in 15 years I haven't see on yet

Pretty sure multiple book deals have put enough money in maddox's pocket to afford a measly mac.

so for a little over $1k you can get same specs + 27 inch apple display + apple wireless keyboard + apple wireless mouse?

I kind of doubt it

Of course there are good alternatives in PC with same specs or similar that go for less, but I don't see how that is a valid point?

Why buy armani jeans when you can buy a pair at wallmart that are just as blue, just as comfy and will last just as long for a lot less than half the price?

If you buy apple you not only buy a high performance machine, it also has a design element. If you have ever owned an apple machine you would know what I am talking about. Nice design also costs money. Nothing is for free. You are not only paying for the specs here

this doesn't really make too much sense I am afraid.. apple computers are used by many top tech firms to develop new products.. google engineers use them for example ..

if you work online 16 hours a day and only use windows you are missing out

after a while you get so sick of the same boring windows stuff that you need a refreshing look on computing

I think a "true" professional should use both apple and windows

ok lets try some more math. If the median of salaries in the US is 31000$ a year (i think thats before taxes) and you take 2000$ from that that's about 6.5% of their income before taxes. Since 31k is the median, it would mean that doesn't represent a poor person and those percentages would just go higher up the less they make, which would make your argument that the average person can easily afford a new mac every year invalid ;)

Also you can easily find a capable pc for under 1200$ these days, not 2000$ Not many business men need gaming capabilities!

haven't seen a maddox post in years. Almost forgot about that shit, always been hilarious.

so you just randomly choose a number and designate that the "median salary" ? how does that work mathematically?

lets talk about the "median salary" of the target audience not of the entire population

also the $2k iMac I used for my $5 example is actually a very EXPENSIVE model compared to the rest of their line-up

$999 Macbook Air

Quote:
11-inch : 64GB
1.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
processor
2GB memory
64GB flash storage1
Intel HD Graphics 3000

$1199 Macbook Pro

Quote:
13-inch: 2.4 GHz
2.4GHz dual-core
Intel Core i5
4GB 1333MHz
500GB 5400-rpm1
Intel HD Graphics 3000
Built-in battery (7 hours)

$1199 iMac

Quote:
21.5-inch: 2.5GHz
2.5GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
1920 x 1080 resolution
4GB (two 2GB) memory
500GB hard drive1
AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 512MB

these are the base models for each serie.. for a normal home user who wants a desktop the obvious choice would be the $1200 iMac with 21.5 inch sreen

so , if we are going to have a discussion about apple, I don't think it should be about price

And you just over paid for an i5. on a PC you can get an i7 with 1 tb drive to or 12 gigs of ram and sooo much more.

Mine was 1599.

I'm ok with my custom built PC and with my Dell laptop...
Windows 7 is really great, stable and increases my productivity...
I think that switching now would be painful since I got used to lots of software that doesn't exist in mac version...

that's a terrible example, there is nothing "professional" about a computer with those specs, they sell them for $500 at walmart to first time computer users...

it doesn't have a wireless mouse or keyboard and the monitor is crap, but still, the bottom line is you are getting a low-end computer for $2k...
