Don't expect this type of content to be cheap if you want exclusive stuff. Takes a long time to render 3D imagery.

was talking to loki about 3d content couple days ago, video takes 33 hours per 1 min to render hehehe
yeah it aint cheap.

Yes, obviously it depends on the rig and the amount of cores etc.
To get faster renders you would be looking at a rig worth about $30k. Also depends on how it is rendered. If you want high quality renders then using Global Illumination and/or VRAY is the way to go. But obviously time is the biggest price here. There are a 100 different factors that can influence render times. Never base it on a set time. ![]() |

It's more fair to both parties to have a flat price. That way, you're not charging more if it takes more time, and it gives you incentive to get the job done quicker to clear up the schedule for more work. One thing I've found is it's better to give a client value and keep them coming back, than it is to rape them for a quick buck.

John Lassiter from Pixar tells the story that 20 years ago, all their rendering farm equipment took 30 minutes to spit out a frame of film ready animation.
Nowadays, he said with a smile, we have orders of magnitude more equipment and faster computers, and it takes... 30 minutes to render a frame of animation. If you look at the difference between toy story 1 and what they're doing today, you can see where the extra time goes. Rendering is irrelevant. xbox and ps3 games render their cutscenes and gameplay on the fly, and it looks great, doesn't have anything to do with final quality or the work it took to make. The question is probably "what budget do you have", which is the difference between a slideshow and a pixar movie. |
