AaronM... question for you

I saw in your other thread about the cops harassing you after they found your CCW permit, but wanted to ask what do you use to carry? I had a side holster but sticks out to much, especially during warm weather.

My wife's cousin gave me a good idea, he uses a luggage strap and puts a soft case through the loop, then has it around his mid stomach so the weapon is in the small of his back.

Just curious what other people are using as I don't like when people see mine (Springfield XD subcompact .40) as it causes a lot of tension

I carry mine in the front of my pants.

That way whenever some wiseass asks "Is that a gun in your pants or are you just happy to see me?" the answer they get isn't what they expected.

How so? The answer is one of the two possibilities they presented

Kinda odd to me that people think it's some sort of problem.

Firearms provide both fun times and security if/when needed. I don't see any problems there.

Since everybody outside of the US seems to live in a perfect world, I'm sure none of you have locks on your doors right? Clearly they are not needed since you are safe in your own home.

Shooting content does expose producers to a ton of risk. I knew Mark Arnold, aka "Ed Powers", who had previously been a transit cop. He was unarmed and assaulted by crack head talent back in the day, beaten within an inch of his life for cash they assumed he carried.

I think this is what people are referring to. If you're on your way to "fun times" at the shooting range or camping or somewhere, then sure, bring your guns. (I agree, they are much fun times ) If you're going out walking after dark in a rough neighbourhood, then sure, bring your CCW and pack your heat. But going to the grocery store in the middle of the day? Dropping kids off at school? Running to 7-11 for milk and bread? That's where I (and I suspect other people) have a hard time picturing a hidden firearm being necessary.

Right, because nobody is ever shot in grocery stores:

http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/...144575955.html

Obviously there are never any shootings at schools:

http://abcnews.go.com/US/oakland-sho...1#.T3zLItn4KY0

7-11 is a quality firearm free hangout:

http://hudsonvalley.ynn.com/content/...7-11-shooting/

The fact is I don't put a gun on to go to the grocery store. I put a gun on in the morning when I get dressed. By default, that means it's on me when I'm at the grocery store. Doesn't matter if I'm going to the gas station, a hospital, or a wedding. If I go somewhere, like a courthouse, where I am not legally allowed to carry, I keep it locked up in a NanoVault in my car. When I go to bed at night, that gun goes on my night stand.

I'm so used to carrying, I don't even notice it unless something draws my attention to it. I don't flash it around and I certainly don't get all macho and go looking for confrontations because I think it makes me a bad ass. Most people have no idea I'm carrying and that's the point of CCW. You've been around me a lot over the years. How many times have you noticed the gun on my hip?

I wasn't meaning to cause offense, and I've never suspected in the past that you were carrying while I was talking to you. I see what you're saying about the gun just being a part of your daily life and not a big deal. It's a very different point of view from what is normal around these parts.

You didn't offend me at all. Sorry if I came across as if you did.

You're absolutely right about the different point of view. What sucks to me is that a lot of people with anti-gun or CCW opinions feel the need to be assholes about it. I just don't get that. I don't tell people they suck because they don't or can't carry or own firearms. Personally, I'm thankful that they don't because their personalities tend to be the sort that start fights. And I'm not talking about B.S. Internet chatter.

I don´t know you and i don´t know where you live and how safe it is there but i can tell you that i live most probably safer than you, without a gun.
It´s about the society arround me that provides me the safety,we all have the same conditions "No Firearms / Weapons", that´s the reason why i don´t have to live in fear that some kid or sick person could shoot me the other moment.
I don´t say it don´t happens here where i live, there are always some guys with weapons but honestly,i hear just about one shooting in 1 or 2 years and those peoples are most of the time sick and mental unstable!
In the US almost everybody has a weapon and that´s the problem, there is no big barrier to kill/injure someone from big distance,i mean,it´s harder to kill someone with a broken bottle, knife or just a bellt.

I am not saying it´s easy to shoot and kill someone but if you are in a dangerous situation and you have to shoot you´ll do, no matter how far the other person is from you.
But if you have a knife in your hand and you have to slaughter someone then it looks different...but...of course you have to do if you have to do it,no question.

I´ve just tried to explain why i am against weapons for everybody (and that´s how it is/was in the US),it has nothing to do with you,i don´t know you!
But i understand the fun factor!
Like Elli said, weapons don´t bellong in the grocery store or schools!
If someone starts to shoot in the grocery store then you would respond with shooting and that makes you the other side of the problem.
You could safe lifes but you could also kill innocent people too in such situations.

Ah fuck that,it´s not easy to find the words and explain it.

this is all fucking weird to me. Packing heat where ever you go. I can understand having a gun in your car or something, kinda like a baseball bat in the trunk or in your home against burglars. But you don't carry that everywhere you go.

Saw a show about an english reporter tagging along with some neighborhood watch in the US with zero tolerance against gangs. Everybody had guns, gang members had stashed theirs in abandoned buildings, bushes etc. Shootings were common. The english guy said that when there's a shooting in the UK it's so rare that it is in the news right away. Just like here in NL.

Aaronm, why do you think there is such a huge difference with european countries, that in the US shootings are part of everyday life as opposed to europe?

having one in the home for security is practical and understandable with your arguments. Not being able to leave your house without being strapped is where you lose everyone though.

Aaronm, why do you think there is such a huge difference with european countries, that in the US shootings are part of everyday life as opposed to europe?

So uh....Why is it OK to carry in your car but not outside of it? When you are in your car, you can often drive away from a bad situation. Do you think more people are attacked in or out of their cars? Same for the home. How many people are attacked in their homes vs. outside of them? Based on your response, you think people should only have guns when they are relatively safe already.

Why do I think there is such a huge difference between Europe and US shootings? Isn't that blatantly obvious? The top reason being the number of guns in the hands of the citizens is far greater in the US. Another factor would be that, IMHO, the average European is more mature than the average American. I believe that if the gun numbers were equal among the citizens of both Europe & the US that we would still have more shootings here than there based solely on the societies we live in.

Your home is the safest spot you are in the majority of your life. Why does it makes sense to you that you should only carry where you are already the safest? The odds are FAR greater that you will encounter violence outside of your home.

I'll tell you what. If you can tell me the date, time, and location of the next firearm related crime that I will happen to be in the vicinity of or a victim of then I promise to leave my guns at home and only carry on the day you tell me I will need my gun. Sound fair to you?

While I'm at it, I'll keep my spare tire in my garage since I'm more likely to get a flat there than on the road.

I have been using these for years, and swear by them... Very comfortable, easy to access, (with practice), and there is no way to tell you are carrying.... even a full-frame .45 while wearing shorts.

Internet chatter.
i wasnt trying to be an asshole, just glad i dont have to pack a gun in the morning to feel "save"

I'll tell you what. If you can tell me the date, time, and location of the next firearm related crime that I will happen to be in the vicinity of or a victim of then I promise to leave my guns at home and only carry on the day you tell me I will need my gun. Sound fair to you?

While I'm at it, I'll keep my spare tire in my garage since I'm more likely to get a flat there than on the road.
what happens when a responsible gun owner makes a mistake changing the multiple lives in the process though? the same could be said for car accidents I suppose but a gun has a very defined use.

I dont carry everywhere I go, but do when I go to my office. Its in the city and there has been some issues recently around the area. two years ago I was held up, mugged and jumped by 2 guys about 2 blocks from where my office is (i was wondering up the street for a taxi after a few drinks).

Point being, if someone is coming after me or my family I'm going to protect them.

When I go to the store, mall, etc., I normally keep it in my car, but thats mainly because I have not found something comfortable enough to wear all the time

You are not one of the assholes I was referring to.

FYI, there are other reasons to pack a gun. I own 2 firearms related businesses, work with dozens of others on a weekly basis, and am in the process of setting up 2 new gun related businesses as well as a not for profit youth education and shooting program. EVERYBODY who travels in these circles carries a gun.

Some people take things so far that they will not do business with any company who posts "no guns allowed" type signs on their doors. Personally, I think that's a petty reason to not shop at certain stores but to each their own.

I'm just happy that Starbucks is pro-carry.
