Psychologist - "If You're Not On Facebook...You Could Be A Psychopath"

Facebook has become such a pervasive force in modern society that increasing numbers of employers, and even some psychologists, believe people who aren't on social networking sites are 'suspicious.'

The German magazine Der Taggspiegel went so far as to point out that accused theater shooter James Holmes and Norwegian mass murder Anders Behring Breivik have common ground in their lack of Facebook profiles.

On a more tangible level, Forbes.com reports that human resources departments across the country are becoming more wary of young job candidates who don't use the site.

Judging by the level of idiocy that's pervasive on Facebook - I tend to be more suspicious of people who spend time on it.

That said...I'm "suspicious" of everyone - whether they're on Facebook or not.

This report doesn't surprise me in the slightest. I knew someone would say this as soon as it became known that Holmes wasn't on Facebook.

Facebook and Google are a voluntary straitjacket. As of today, the Timeline is compulsory on all Facebook profiles. Nothing is private, everything you are is on one page and in one place. Was watching a documentary last night about the East German Stasi spying on the sex lives of their citizens. It won't be long until Google and Facebook are doing that.

Any article that quotes a psychologist or magazine as an expert source is automatic bullshit.

I can give you a list of serial killers, rapists and pedophiles a mile long who were all active on social networks or even made use of the internet to commit their crimes.

I don't have social media profiles because 1, I don't feel he need to try and impress other people or require their feedback to prop up my self esteem and 2, I value the privacy of myself and especially of my family.

Any employer, govt agency or individual who tries to claim not having a facebook account makes you "suspect" should suck a HIV+ cock and drop dead.

I kind of expected this, however. There are certain entities who very much want your private data accessible - the IRS, homeland security, police, DEA, etc to name just a few. The drive to make people "want" to expose themselves voluntarily has begun....

Fuck em, I'd rather they fear me if that's how it's going to be.

Agreed - of course it is. But the sad thing is there's people out there with personal insecurities or inadequacies who read that sort of garbage and question whether they're abnormal just because they're not on Facebook.

I dumped my Facebook account quite some time ago for much the same reason. A buddy of mine sent me an email shortly after I canceled saying, "Enjoy your social suicide" - to which I wrote back and said, "I had a life before Facebook. Now I'm simply picking up where I left off."

Everyone knows that employers look at Facebook so it could seem like they are trying to hide something if they don't have it or maybe that they are antisocial or something. I don't think they necessarily care about what bad shit is on there, but I would think an employer likes to see someone who's social and interested in things. It seems ridiculous and there's privacy issues,etc but I can understand the logic of it.

- Social network profiling and fingerprinting (you can't hide, trust me if they want to know who you really are they can easily determine it using methods you can't even imagine yet).

And of course, if all else fails the NSA reads / listens to every form of communication inside and outside the US. The distinction between foreign and internal vanished about 2 years before 9/11. They read your emails, listen to your phone calls and can wiretap your house, car, workplace, etc without stepping foot anywhere near those locations.

The next gen of computing was the hold up to TIA going full throttle, there aren't enough humans to analyze all the signals / data. Then IBM came up with this thing called "Watson". A cool tech demo of a very lightweight version of the big black marble.

That,s bullshit. Some people change their family names, or have accents( like é), which makes finding their profiles real difficult.

They can be a lot of reasons for that. The first that comes in mind is my friend. She works in the worst prison in Canada. She deals regularly with criminals, pedophiles, murderers and the scum of the Earth, that my taxes pay to keep them alive because of some random mental illness.

Let's just say she tries to make sure her inmates can't find her in FB.

I fail to understand why some people are not on Facebook. I understand it's not for everyone, and I'm not saying everyone needs to post to it on a regular basis, but just to be able to contact people.

Because of my kid I have lots of kids on my Facebook, so I'm very careful of what I say (and who I'm friends with). So I'm very tame about what I post on Facebook.

I don't understand issues about privacy. The entire point of Facebook is to share your life with your friends and family. If you don't want your shit being out there, don't be posting it on line on FB or otherwise.
