Why apple pisses me off

Why don't they let you buy the case for the mac mini with out the HD or Ram or CPU
for people that already have these
so im looking at the 2.6GHZ quad that comes with a 1TB HD i don't need, I want to use my own SSD, but i have to buy it with the 1TB because they don't sell the 2.6GHZ with the smaller HD
or am i missing something

Because they sell complete computers not computer parts. Go on eBay and buy a used one and swap it.

Because of the Apple logo on it. And because of their fancy shops.

Huh? It's just a computer with normal computer parts. It's not better than another computer with those same computer parts just because of an Apple logo.

Wtf? What are you people smoking? There is nothing better about a mac. It's just a computer with hardware like any other computer with the same hardware. An Apple logo doesn't make it better in any way whatsoever.

Yes it is. That is why it is more money.

Franck, you know I like ya, but you're seriously mistaken at why an Apple computer costs more.

Yep. It's not the logo. It's because crApple now has the 2nd highest profit margins of any company in the manufacturing industry. Profits are currently at 26.2% of revenues.

They have always been highly over priced, which is why they gave away over 95% of the OS market share. They even needed investment capital from Microsoft to keep from going belly up before Jobs came back.

I'm in the process of putting together a new Hackintosh build.

Newer versions of the components in the current Apple MacPro desktop, for about 1/3 the cost of what it would be buying the Apple branded stuff.

AppleCare and the GeniusBar aren't worth shit if you're more capable and know more than your average Apple store employee. Do it yourself.

Hackintosh has come a long ways, I thought about building one, but instead I just said fuck it and bought an iMac.

it's a bit ironic how your response to a mac fan is a lot different than to a mac "hater", even though both made the same claim, that macs are significantly overpriced...

There's a difference between a person who hates on Apple because of their price, and someone who sees no reason to pay for a Mac when they can build one themselves.

Do this:

Buy the Mac Mini with a 1 or 2 TB Hard disk, and purchase the SSD separately. When you get home, make a boot disk out of a USB Key (google it). Install your SSD drive, boot with the USB key and then make your SSD drive the boot drive. Install your most-often used apps to the SSD/Boot drive, and use the HD for your data drive, and voiala! You will have a super, super-fast computer that boots in seconds and loads what you need in fewer seconds, for CHEAP.

Or, they want to sell complete, tested products to make the user experience as easy as possible. This gives them a great reputation and saves them on technical support costs as well.

Some (like me) would argue that sum is, and is worth more, than the parts. You may pay a little more, but you get flawless, fast machines that have none of the headaches that you get from Windows machines.

And I'm not just saying that - I was a Windows/PC Guy forever until I converted a few years ago. Zero problems.

Try this:
- Go to an Apple store and ask them some questions. Look at their machines and play with them a while. Then go to Futureshop and try doing the same thing. BIG difference. Or if you like, go to one of those shitty clone shops at one of those import shops that sell fake everything and see if you really want to buy from them.

So in that case just keep using whatever computer you are using now and be happy with it. If you haven't worked with both, you are unqualified to offer advice on the subject.

I've thought about doing this too. It's been a long time since I've built anything. I used to be a real DYI'er.... I may buy a PC in parts and built it myself just for the fun of it too.

:thum bsup

Finally...!

The only extra I would add is this : I don't feel they are overpriced at all. We have 5 Macs at our company as well as some PC's, and whenever it comes time to buy any Macs or other Apple products, the prices to me always seem dead-on. The price for everything (except maybe certain cables) is always worth it. to me.

It's been my experience that they are better computers, with fewer problems, and excellent customer support when problems come up.

I am NOT a "fanboy" by any means. Anyone who is defined by what computers/gadgets they buy is extremely sad.

That said, I don't know if they're quite worth the BIG price premium.

Also, Apple has a history of fucking over customers by radically changing their products and leaving people with incompatible shit (G5 to Intel, Final Cut X, etc.). They're as arrogant as any other transnational. I'll always consider other options.

The same reason Samsung don't sell TV's without the tuner, flat panel or video processor.

A barebones system such as the shuttle or similar that's similarly configured will cost you around $400, then add operating system, CPU, RAM, Video Card, Hard Disk and you've come up to around $800 for the system.

A Mac Mini comes in at $150 below that, so what's the problem ? Just get the Mac Mini, make a boot USB thumb drive, add the SSD as your boot drive then install Mac OS on it, store data on the 1TB drive and then you have a super quick booting Mac with 1TB of storage.

They are nice looking but not worth the price to me. I have a gateway laptop never gave me a day of problems. Its old now and sits in a drawer. It would fire up with no problem. I have two acer laptops never had a problem.
I would say in the 12 computers I have owned the only dog was a sony laptop years ago.

Love how peoples first reaction is how expensive a Mac is, all while they pay the biggest price for an OS upgrade than any other OS on the market.

Can't pay an extra $200 for a quality computer, but sure as fuck don't mind paying $400+ for hardware upgrades on top of a $150 OS upgrade from Microsoft.

$29.95 OS upgrade + no hardware upgrades needed for at least 3 major OS iterations, but hey, Macs are too expensive for you guys!

in a book about apple (or steve jobs) it was said that for example dell is putting 50$ profit margin on its computers and apple is putting 500$. So here you go. You pay for the logo and all the brainwash campaigns.

I got so irritated with my 2.5GHz i7 17" Macbook Pro that I sold it on Ebay yesterday for $2175.

I'm glad that Apple stopped making the 17" right after I bought mine, allowing it to hold its value so that I took a minimal loss on it.

Still like my iPhone and iPad, but I'm done with Apple computers.

My observation, is that people who say Macs cost to much, simply want one, but cant afford one.

If they DIDNT want one, and COULD afford one, these posts wouldn't happen...

No disrespect to those who cant afford them - But for those of us who can, (or have saved up) Stop saying we are stupid!

Its a free world

I have a 5 year old PC (which I use all the time) and a 2 year old Mac (which I use no more than 5-6 hours/week) and Mac is the one that freezes occasionally even though there is probably around 100 programs installed on my PC and I installed maybe 2-3 programs on Mac.

the top of the line mac pro goes for 3800$

the normal one goes for 2500$

you get stuff like intel processors and ATI graphic cards...shit that is not to be had on the PC ...

its the magic of advertising...crapple basically stole ideas left and right, outsourced them to a china sweat shop, overpriced the fuck out of their products, sued everybody else who tried to copy what they copied, backstabbed their loyal users with frequent "new and improved" models like the Iphone5 joke LOL...and the apple fans STILL will not admit that they are in fact very very prone to marketing

their best high-end $3800 model has the Xeon E5645 Processor and ATI Radeon HD 5770 video card (source)

that CPU was released 1st quarter of 2010 (source) and the graphics card was released 4th quarter of 2009 (source)

That's some cutting edge, 3 year old hardware, it's ridiculous that any company can call outdated crap like that "Pro"

The arguments for Macs usually go something like this:
You just don't understand
Better support
Better hardware
Worth the money

Well, you're right, I don't understand. I can agree with better support. I cannot agree with better hardware. And I cannot agree with worth the money because there is no way that better support is worth that much of a price increase to me.

I don't have a problem with Macs really, you guys just need to come up with better arguments or be willing to admit that you don't mind paying more money for a sexy machine, with better support.

In August I spent $2,500 on the following (no monitor):
i7-3960X CPU @ 3.30ghz
10 GB RAM
2 TB HD

I added the following two pieces of hardware, these are included in the price above.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o04_s00_i00
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o04_s00_i00

What would a comparable Mac have run me?

And for the record, I spent about $8,000 on computer hardware last year, so I can afford a Mac just fine. I have had no problems either.

so im looking at the 2.6GHZ quad that comes with a 1TB HD i don't need, I want to use my own SSD, but i have to buy it with the 1TB because they don't sell the 2.6GHZ with the smaller HD
or am i missing something
buy a used one off of ebay. by the way HP, IBM, Toshiba, etc don't sell cases.

but that's with any computer system. it's always cheaper to get the ram and harddrive yourself. I always get the bare minimum for a system then upgrade it myself.

cant wait for crapple tv to come out this year

based on other apple products i expect apple tv to be just like regular tv, only crippled and outdated, and then horribly overpriced and overhyped...

BUT they will add a glowing apple logo

Sure. Okay, that stock computer that I bought (which was upgraded from the manufacturer) was $1,800. I put another $500 or so into it. So take the original specs and tell me what that would cost with Apple.
