It seems not - I just found a post on a mainstream webmaster forum selling an 'amazing new innovation' - What is it?

Geo Targeted Ads - The ones we have been using for YEARS.

The members of the forum are all wetting themselves over it as well.

Its nice to know we can still teach them a thing or two about marketing

I'm pretty sure you're hanging around the wrong mainstream webmaster forums if that's news to someone.

I work mainly in mainstream nowdays and geotargeting is a given, ALL ads are geo targeted or atleast language targeted. Then again I work in europe, I presume there's not so much need for geo-targeting in the us/english speaking markets.

Retargeting, interest based targeting and various different dynamically created ads are some things we don't see in adult but which are every day life in mainstream.

By dynamically created, I don't mean changing the text of the ad based on where you're from but. More like retail store-ads showing you the things you've already placed in your basket and then giving you a discount if you didn't buy them and left the store etc.

Depends... I use Retargeting for brand awareness. My clients use my services every couple months, there are 20 other compagnies offering similar services. I make sure they remember me.

the people who know whats actually going on are generally not on low level webmaster forums, so this doesnt suprise me that something so old is new to them.

for the record... the things high end mainstream companies are doing blows almost everything adult is doing, as a whole, right out of the water. they are still making money and moving up, we are stuck trying to make ends meet again, after training the entire world that our product should be free.

You will find that not most but all of the high end mainstream companies take a very conservative and orthodox approach to the conception and marketing of their product. (product = films)

They are NOT playing around with all kinds of gadgets and other crap. The only area they are using these techno-toys is in the actual production/creation of their product. And in production they use it to lower manufacturing costs, enhance the viewer experience with special effects and finally as a tactical weapon tool of marketing against Internet downloads. (ie. the tactical weapon of marketing is providing something you can only get in an actual theater)

So in case you have not figure it out yet.

Your *value* will only last until the day somone invents a techno-gadget that can push its own buttons.... And at that point it will be game over.

The only thing you will have left is your skills.... And if your only skills are pushing buttons.
