So much for democracy over there.

Whether you like him or not, he was elected fairly. So basically anytime the military thinks the elected leader isnt doing a good job they can get rid of them. I dont see that type of "check and balances" leading to long term stability.

Young people around the world are FINALLY rebelling against religious bullshit.

Unlike what is happening here in the US, where we are watching the Christian version of Sharia Law taking away rights throughout the red states.

Religion is retarded, and hopefully one day this world will be rid of the fairy tales that prevent science from progressing humanity and technology forward.

Religions = Divisions.

Same thing happened in Slovenia and Bulgaria recently, only difference is how prime ministers there was not pushed by military, just by people protesting.
Anyway,if they will have new elections, curious to see how it will went.Maybe new president will do same shit again and protests will be there again.

The US/CIA overthrew the DEMOCRATIC government of Iran in 1953. Not sure how you can blame Jimmy Carter for this historical fact.

you don't even need to add 'US' in there.. CIA was and should still be able to operate entirely on its own

You are over the place. What is happening in Egypt is essentially a military coup against a democratically elected leader because of people protesting in the street. I am specifically talking about the military getting involved in this.

The fact it was the military means everything. When has there been a military coup against a democratically elected leader (or any military coup) that has led to stability for a country? I cant think of one.

Considering this is the same military as the last coup, and they're still receiving US funds..

That's really not true. Both the government and the people of Syria are more secular than say Iran or Afghanistan but the rebels that have come in are hardcore Islamist.

The FSA is more secular than any of the rebel groups.

good on them religion and politics have no place together. Politics should be purely secular.

I know this is rich coming from the UK where the monarch is also head of the church however the monarch is not actively involved in politics

Al Jazeera has mentioned at least three TV stations that have gone to black under the new president . . . Al Jazeera's, Muslim Brotherhood's and the Egyptian run one.

Just so you understand, the military removed Morsi, it was not done "by the people."

I have a lady friend in Alexandria, Egypt and we have discussed the political situation there repeatedly. Basically the Muslim Brotherhood was welcomed as a change but its actions offended the hopes of the Egyptian people, albeit the educated city dwellers.

She was very depressed about the economic situation there which only worsened considerably when Mubarak was overthrown.

I'll talk to her as soon as the government reconnects their internet? She has been missing for 5 days now ...

The military stepped in because half the people wanted Morsi and the other half did not. Kind of like here, you think the military should arrest Obama because half the people here don't like him?

If he sided with religious extremists, then yes.

If half the population (of any country) decides to live by the rules of some bullshit religion, and the other half believes in true freedom, then I know who I would side with.

As long as today's Republitards insist on approaching all issues here in America through religious positions (as they appear to be doing more and more), then a revolution may not be far from reality here in the US, as well.

I don't understand why it hasn't already begun.

There are many here on GFY would would suggest that any Christian is a religious extremist. The fact that a majority voted for him suggests they side with him. So, you think this is what should be done here? The military should arrest Obama because he is an extremist by being Christian and going to church all the time?

If ANY president was elected here in the US, and afterwards females were no longer allowed to show their faces, or drive, or walk without a man, etc. then it is irrelevant who won the election - that president would have to go.

Did Morsi run on the promise that he would be pushing the agenda of the Muslim Brotherhood, or did he run as a moderate?

If he stated upfront that he would be siding with the nitwit idiotic religious fanatics, he would not have been elected.

Once he showed his true colors, shit hit the fan. That's just how it goes.

If Obama demanded we all learn to speak Chinese and outlawed liquor and motorcycles, I'm pretty sure the majority of the country would want him removed, including a good number of the people that voted him in.

Who else (other than the military), would be able to remove such a lunatic?

In the end, religion is the root of all evil. It is childish, and dangerous. All religions should be banned globally, for the sake of humanity.

The problem is that you are trying to equate western ideals with theirs; that dog don't fly. Oppressing women there is like not allowing gay marriage here.

For over 3000 years Egypt was ruled by a Pharaohic or royal dynasty. On 18 June 1953, Egypt was declared a republic.

It's not fair to impose American or western values on Egypt nor is it fair to impose those same values on the former USSR territories.

Europe has a long history of kingdoms, democracy and parliamentary governance. The US and Canada share the Western European and Mediterranean European heritage.

The military in Egypt has acted to salvage the republic: Colonel Nasar, Lieutenant Colonel Sadat and Air chief marshal Mubarack were all military officers.

That is Egyptian tradition.

I think it a hopeful sign that the head of Egypt's Constitutional Court, Adli Mansour, was sworn in as interim president today.

Says that civilian rule is their new way ...
