I need info about chargebacks

Hi all !

I need some information about chargebacks. In the near future, I will start my own dating website but I am not impatient. I believe that I should make research as much as possible before I start.

My dating site will be non-adult. I've two questions to ask.

1-) I need some info about the calculation of the chargebacks. How can I calculate that ratio ? Does it depend on the sale volume, or the number of the sales ? Also I read something about first 50 chargebacks but didn't understand well. Could someone explain it to me ?

2-) Even I use 3d, can my customers chargeback ? (I want to keep low my ratio, so I decided to use 3d)

I honestly don't want you to waste your time answering this question, so I will accept a short answer, even links would be great.

Thanks !

each processor has allowed chargeback ratio, i guess ccbill has 3%

1.ratio depends on the total sale amount. means if you processed 2 sales at USD 30. it will be calculated 60 bucks.

2.no idea. but imho in the high risk customer is always right.

There are not too many people on this board that have the info you need, and those that do will likely not be eager to tell you what you need to know, since understanding how to stay within the CB ratio guidelines is a huge advantage in this business.

If I were you I would do some research using the search function and then get ahold of someone at Netbilling and discuss any questions you may have.

Visa and MC have their rules, and companies like CCBill and Epoch have others but ultimately answer to Visa and MC. So find out about Visa and MC and make your plans accordingly.

1) As a general rule each billing provider will ask that you keep your chargeback rate low (1-3%). Sometimes it is based on the number of sales, sometimes they allow exceptions. It really depends on your history with them and how you handle the situation.

2) Yes, even with cams, customers can chargeback.

The best way to reduce chargebacks is to watch your sales closely for anything fishy, and encourage customers to contact you in case of any technical or other problems so that you can credit them yourself instead of asking their card company for a refund. This will help you keep your CB rate low and improve your service at the same time.

ratios have nothing to do with dollar volume or ticket price

they are calculated based on transaction count of sales

there are thresholds that you are not allowed to go over or you get fined and/or your mid gets shut down - this depends if the mid is offshore or domestic

you need to keep your ratios in check and stay below the thresholds and you will be fine.

what ratio you need to stay under depends on the iso/bank, the portfolio you are under and the relationship with the processor

Thanks for the all answers ! I will definitely make more research before I start. I will combine my low-risk sales with the dating site's sales, so I may decrease my ratio with that way a bit. Also there will be a detailed pages about refund policy and customer support, etc.

Thanks again. I appreciated.

Bump, I've got another question.

Lets say I am operating two different websites, dating and low-risk business. There won't be any chargebacks on my low-risk business model. Maybe a few, but almost zero. As a result, can I use the low-risk business as an umbrella to keep my chargeback ratio low ?

I mean, if I have two different websites, does the processor calculate the ratio in total or seperately ? By the way, I don't expect high amount of chargebacks for my dating site but I want to be cautious.

I know this is kinda tricky but I want to keep my cb ratio as low as possible.

Waiting for the answers
