Best Music To Workout To?

Besides New Year's Resolutions, Springtime will be here before you know it so the time to get in shape is NOW. N-O-W.

So what's the best music for working out? I am thinking more cardio (treadmill, bike, jogging, etc), something to get you going and keeps you moving for 20-30 mins.

For me: AC/DC

You?

AC/DC is always good for some energy music. When I do extreme work outs I usually go a little heavier, slipknot, etc..

I think we have a winner here! But is it ok if I substitute the Rocky 3 soundtrack? Eye Of The Tiger and all that. :D

Bugger all that... if you want to get serious you go with something that will offer enough peaks and valleys to simulate a true cross country experience, a journey of the mind and body if you will...

You go with one of these 20 to 40 minute mountains of the jam... plus it will purify your soul at the same time and you can't beat that!

Not sure why but that sentence just resonates with pure poetry. Moving.

Get an Amazon prime membership and browse playlists for certain period music, made me remember songs I haven't heard for years and songs I had never learned the name of.

Of course being a former music journalist you know a lot of music but I'm sure you like to still get reminded of a fun song every now and then that you might not recall off the top of your head.

Late 90's-mid 2000's trance sets. Paul van Dyk and Tiesto are my favorites. Here are a couple.

So what's the best music for working out? I am thinking more cardio (treadmill, bike, jogging, etc), something to get you going and keeps you moving for 20-30 mins.

For me: AC/DC

You?
Techno or House. Sometimes 80's mix. Has to have a good beat for me to be able to stay motivated.

I like this one

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums.

if you can manage to workout without any music and focus on your workout you will do just fine, but if you are new and need to forget the agony of being a noob with some audio then try something loud that will help you get angry and use some extra stamina

It's really what music gets you "going".

I revert to dance / edm / rap / rock during workouts.

On PC when it comes to motivation, I usually have Eminem on quite a bit. So positive. I owe this guy a lot.

It took me YEARS (and many ounces of very strong marijuana) to even begin to "get" the Peter Gabriel years, like The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.

I love Duke and Abacab and their self-titled album Genesis, with 'Mama' on it. Fucking brilliant. (Of course it all came crashing down with the dreadful We Can't Dance. That album sucked balls.)

Do you like Huey Lewis and the News?

Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

In '87, Huey released Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Well....I never associate the word 'artistically' with Huey Lewis. LOL I consider him to be the white Lionel Ritchie.

I'm more into Classic Rock. I lived through the eighties and that's when I started as a writer in the music biz. I interviewed Huey (great guy!) and also Phil Collins (also very cool guy). But my tastes were very 1975, even back then. But I can appreciate the professionalism and the overall sound of that time period, and 'Sports' was certainly in my album collection. Back To The Future helped Huey a lot, too.

Ahh good times. I feel so old now. LOL

none @ both cardio & strength.

side note: i don't do treadmills like a caged hamster, i always run outside. Guess when i would be running on a treadmill like a zombie i would need everything to not think about that depressing act so i understand people listening to music in there.

I hear ya man. I don't do treadmills either. But I do find it hilarious when I see people running next to busy streets and breathing in all that carbon monoxide and thinking they're being "healthy". LOL

It's getting cold here in NYC so it's time to switch from riding my bike outside to an indoor spin bike I just got. It's in my basement so I NEED something to zone out to. I'm already praying for springtime and nicer weather so I can ride outside again.
