I have no interest in sports cars any more. Honestly you going to get from point A to point B any faster than me - You can do ninety miles an hour on the freeway, but so can my Jeep Cherokee.

I must admit though the new Vettes are nice.

Owning a sports car is nothing to do with anything you just said, if that is what you think then I'm not surprised you have no interest in them.

The Z06 is a real nice car, the price is incredible considering what this thing will do. It would destroy cars twice it's price, on a track and even in a straight line.

I did the sports car thing for most of my life, and it was fun. I have a long list of tickets where I was exceeding 100 mph. It was great. (And expensive.)But eventually I discovered my sports car wasn't meeting any of my needs. At all. It was just a pain in the ass.

i'm pretty surprised they put michelin cup 1 tires on the z06 with the z07 perf upgrade. those are basically slicks. badass tire but very dangerous for a daily driver, which I think the z06 can be with the magnetic suspension.

Theyre putting Cup 2 tires on the new AWD ford focus RS too which are just as slick looking in an even more daily driveable car.

We got an email from a witness to the accident who was very concerned that a Corvette with Manufacturers Plates from Michigan was operating on wet roads with ?bald tires?. She describes the accident as happening like this:

The vette spun out and took another vehicle with it through a cable wire median, shredding the vehicle to the point where the cable almost came through the drivers seat, and as youll [sic] see from my pictures, ended up facing backwards on the opposite side of the barrier that it originally spun out from.

The Corvette Z06 looks to be equipped with the Z07 Performance Package which includes Michelin?s Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
i referred to them as cup 1 tires earlier, sorry about that, they are cup 2

IMO you should tone your driving down or be smart enough to not drive your 650hp car in the rain over a certain speed. 335 series tires will hydroplane no matter what at certain speed plus more people will be driving this in the dry vs wet. I get bad hydro with 295 series michelin pilot sports out back and 275's up front. Just comes with the territory of having a sports car.

I bet that eLSD helps keep all that fucking torque in line in the rain but still need to pay serious attention. it's got a cool interface on the instrument cluster too. love that. not to mention the heads-up display.

crazy slick car.

no doubt.... in the vette I was really aware of the rain.... I could feel the water under my feet during the hydroplane activity's... but what was really cool was water splashing over the clear roof panel in town from passing cars and trucks

when I picked my Z06 back in 05 down in Florida, I had flown down in end of March to pick it up and drive it back up to MN. Once I hit Wisconsin I hit a fucking blizzard and it was like that for the last 6 hours of the drive. The car had the stock eagle F1 supercars on it.

I've never been so scared in my life driving a car. I thought for sure I was going to total the fucker before I got home. Driving that car in a heavy downpour was also not a fun experience. It would get squirrely.

I have a 2014 Stingray, and will probably get the Z06 sometime this year. However, only the manual is available as of now, and I want the automatic. I ordered my Stingray, so I got it pretty early last year, but did not order the Z06, so I'm just gonna have to wait til the automatics start hitting and buy one that's not claimed yet. My dealer has me on speed dial for when that happens. :-)

Here's my car shortly after I bought it:

No. But she had a Mustang, and an old Chevy truck, an AR15 assault rifle just like she had in the Marines, and she rode a Honda Blackbird sportbike.

Exactly. There is vanilla and chocolate.

I drove sports cars for twenty-eight years and loved it. I too loved the power and opening it up. But after a few decades you discover how impractical sports cars are. They are low to ground which is a huge pain in the ass (everything from parking to speed bumps to getting out of the driveway), can't park in fields (I got stuck once at a concert), then there is the fact that it's a two door and a two plus two seater can't fit four adults, not to mention the lack of storage. Factor in driving a 600 hp car with a heavy clutch in traffic isn't much fun....

I never understood the need for trucks for most of my life. I suddenly decided to buy one and frankly it's great - I can do ANYTHING your sports car do and everything your sports car cannot. For the most part I can drive just as fast as you, and throwing my twenty-five year old truck into twisties is a blast because you really feel like you are putting your life in your hands (you are!). On top of that, I can carry anything and go any where.

They had a works corvette driver drive one stock to a sub 1.30 lap at road atlanta which is nuts for a stock production car, I think regular GT cars run about 1.28's:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmrPPBrZZ7c

I drove a regular C7 Z51 a few laps at a track and it was unreal i was riding in a C6 that morning and it was light years ahead.

Was talking to a fellow GFYer last weekend at a car show, and I remembered this thread so figured I would update it...

Traded my 2014 Stingray for a 2016 Z06 last month. Opted for the yellow again, but it's actually a different shade of yellow now (my 2014 was Velocity Yellow, the 2016 is Corvette Racing Yellow) and is a little brighter than the previous shade. I waited for the 8 speed auto, since I'll spend very little (if any) time on the track. I also got the carbon package (ground effects, spoiler, etc.), the exposed carbon fiber top, and the PDR (onboard camera and data recorder).

650 hp stock for a rear wheel drive car is ridiculous, and this thing hauls ass!

Pic of both side by side, new Z06 is in the foreground, my old Stingray is behind...
